Do business with anyone but them

I purchased windows and a sliding glass door when the company was BMC. The door came in 3 colors instead of the 2 that was ordered. It was next to impossible to get them even to substitute a cheap plastic casing to cover up part of a frame. I also need the correct color threshold. I called and was put on hold for over 20 minutes when I disconnected the call. I called back the next day and was on hold for over an hour when I disconnected that call. I figure 3 times is a charm. I was transferred to someones voice mail 3 days ago and still have not heard back. Horrible company. Will not do business nor try to contact you again. Your loss.

Avoid this company at all costs

Avoid this company at all costs. The service was appalling—rude interactions, zero communication, repeated mistakes in both ordering and scheduling, and absolutely no accountability. What should have been a straightforward patio door purchase turned into a nine-month ordeal involving three separate orders, lost items, incorrect replacements, and consistently disrespectful treatment. I’d rather buy a budget door from Lowe’s than ever deal with this company again. Consider this a warning. While I usually believe “you get what you pay for,” these doors were far from cheap and came with nothing but frustration, errors, and dismissive customer service.

Builders First Source in Brainerd…

Builders First Source in Brainerd Minnesota. Apparently every roofer that gets materials from them is installing wet shingles as I had my delivered and so much water in the shingles that it was running down my underlayment causing dangerous conditions. Apparently there are a bunch of piece of crap Roofing installers throwing on a bunch of wet shingles thinking they're going to dry out when all you do is capture moisture and Future Mold issues. Manager said that's the first time he's ever heard of it, WTF, seriously. We sell truck loads of it and so that makes it okay. Lame, never again.

Quote fail

I put together a take off list in an Excel spreadsheet for an ADU project and sent it to my local BFS location. This was over a month and a half ago and after many attempts to get them to quote out this job... Nothing! I then got on their chat system, explained the situation and submitted the spreadsheet takeoff directly to the "mother ship". Two weeks have elapsed and nothing... My local lumber yard had a quote back to me in 2 days.

They don’t even deserve one star

They don’t even deserve one star. Every door has issues motors out hinges wrong, especially for French doors. I just got five doors and I can’t even get the door handle on. It was drilled out wrong nothing but problems. I wish my boss would stop buying from this crap Company horrible quality control. Also I got a French door in the header was 2 inches bigger than the threshold.

THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW

THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW: I've been a school bus driver for over 18 years and I was heading northbound on glasford Hill road in Prescott Valley, Arizona on Friday 12-20-24. The time was around 12:45 p.m. A driver representing this company was to my left and constantly honking his horn. I gathered maybe I had a battery door loose or maybe a flat tire or something. When I finally pulled up next to this crazed gray-haired individual, who's hood number read 41993, he's calling me an effing A which of course I can't swear here. He says he wouldn't want his kid on my bus and then starts mocking my ponytail. I'm thinking how unprofessional is this company to hire such rude, arrogant and ignorant individuals. He was further throwing cuss words at me and I just simply waved at the man. If this is the ethics of how they treat a driver of a school bus driver I wouldn't want to think what they are like when it comes to dealing with the public.

Missing significant portion of $100,000 order made April/May 2024

30 Dec. 9 months since we ordered and still missing windows and doors. The local manager and regional manager do not return phone calls. The national group in Texas assigned in house counsel and now out of house counsel. All we need are the missing windows and doors we paid for. Instead of providing them, they hired lawyers to further delay things. Best to avoid. We ordered $76,805.23 worth of Windsor windows and exterior doors on 25 April 2024 and $15,495.70 of internal doors from Builder First Source in Kansas City on 9 May 2024. The windows arrived several weeks late in late June / early July. The window order that was supposed to arrive at once arrived a couple windows at a time over several weeks. In that order there were several windows and doors that were manufactured incorrectly and had to be replaced. By mid-July, there were dozens of problems with the door and window order including doors swinging the wrong direction, several windows the wrong size, windows with the wrong mullion pattern, quality control issues etc. Windsor corrected a few of the errors over the next several months, but to date we are still missing the following:1. Two egress windows that were manufactured incorrectly and were ordered to be replaced in early July2. Window hardware was missing on a third window - so the window does not open3. Four exterior doors had damaged gaskets, missing finish strike plates, and were bored incorrectly for hardware effectively making them useless. The internal doors arrived with all the wrong lockset bores and needed to be remade. When the new doors arrived, several doors were the wrong width, a pair of doors was the wrong height, and all the basement doors were the wrong height and needed to be remade. When the replacements arrived again, one of the basement doors came with the wrong hardware, and a cracked frame. Another basement door came with the wrong borings. The dining room doors arrived a third time, the wrong size.We have contacted BFS dozens of times and were given reassurances that they were correcting the above issues, but they have disappeared since 8 November. I have contacted the sales manager Jason Prince, the store manager Matt Miller and the regional manager Dennis Donnelly several dozen times since 8 November, but none have responded in the last six weeks. When I contact BFS, their secretaries promise a return call but no call is forthcoming. When I ring the BFS head office in Dallas they refer me to their legal department. The BFS legal department led by Maggie Trembath was likewise unresponsive the last several weeks until 10 December when she said she was pregnant and referred the issue to a local law firm in Kansas City. The local law firm is Wilson Esler. Wilson Esler's counsel Theodore Kardis has likewise been largely unresponsive. He claims BFS are not responding to him.I am really surprised that missing doors and windows has turned into a legal matter from BFS. We are out tens of thousands in missing goods and they have lawyered up. It illustrates that they know they are in trouble. Quite honestly, we just want our missing doors and windows. Unfortunately, BFS management do not like being honest and are just attempting to steal our money. As someone in the building industry for 30 years, I would not use a supplier that cannot deliver products in a timely manner, with all the requisite parts, or can provide basic after sales support.I would warn other architects, builders, or homeowners not to use Builders First Source. After spending nearly $100,000 on the order in April/May 2024, we still do not have a complete set of doors and windows. If Builders First Source will treat someone in the trade this way, imagine how they will treat a homeowner when a problem arises. Be careful with BFS and Windsor Doors and Windows.I will update this review if anything changes (positive or negative).Several months have passed and Builders First Source have still not produced the ten of thousands of missing doors and windows. As a result of their lack of service, the clients have suffered over $100,000 in additional time claims and fees. Think twice before using BFS and Windsor Windows. Your Windows are only as good as the distributor and BFS are not fit for purpose.

#1 We ordered replacement windows for…

#1 We ordered replacement windows for our house and wanted them to be Hurricane replacements. BFS even came out and measured the windows to ensure the windows were the proper size. House is well within the required distance (300’) of the Gulf requiring Hurricane windows. BFS told us they do not install the windows, a subcontractor would perform the install and being as though it was a remove/ replace there would not be a building permit required. Windows are delivered by the subcontractor and all windows down to the last window to be installed when the subcontractor mentioned “you should have gotten a building permit for your window replacement.”. What we received were not hurricane windows as required by Florida Code in the coastline area we live, but our impact windows are not to code. Efforts to get this corrected (even paying additional costs) fell on deaf ears and according to the errant Florida law the homeowner is left holding the bag for not getting the permit the installers were required to obtain before starting their work. #2 Purchased hurricane doors to replace existing doors from a non-BFS business with a delivery lead time of 4-6 weeks. Contacted local licensed contractor to remove and replace doors which the contractor applied for and received a building permit. In between the order date and expected delivery date, BFS acquired the business we ordered the doors. Delivery date slid from 4-6 weeks to 6-8 weeks. Doors arrived 8 werks later and that is when the fun began. Top notch doors were damaged, didn’t fit or would not take the latex paint recommended by the manufacturer due to constant elastomeric sealant seepage no matter what recommended action was taken to correct the defect (original company claimed responsibility but BFS had to okay the replacement which took weeks). In the meantime, we had a contractor on the hook by the building permit department asking questions as to why it was taking so long to install doors and wanting to charge our contractor for a permit extension when in fact the delay was caused by the supplier (BFS). I do not recommend buying from BFS or affiliate and the first question after “do you obtain a building permit” is “do you get your materials from BFS?”. If they have any affiliation with BFS just tell them “thank you for your time.” and find another contract who answers those two questions correctly.

Our preferred supplier. Only wish they supplied more!

Nashville TN. Competitive pricing. Good service. The salesman even brought me out a truckbed of studs one time when we were in a rush. I build and flip houses so we order from them a lot.

James and Tyler performed a service call at my home to repair doors that were not properly installed and sealed. They were courteous, professional and timely. The repairs they completed solved my problem. Thanks for great service! John Keiken, Blanchard, OK

Ordered a mahogany front door at $5000

Ordered a mahogany front door at $5000. The employee never placed the order after months of being told it was. Finally placed, months later they delivered with deep gouges all over it. I refused order and was told the painter can repair it. Seriously, they do not care about the way they handle or deliver a door and it is expected to be damaged. They are not professional and do not value customers. Buyer beware. They don’t care about handling a $5000 Simpson mahogany door and don’t care how they service their customers. Also, I called 5 times to corporate and received a case number and a promise it would be elevated and replied to me. No one ever called despite repeated attempts. Horrible company

Unqualified Personnel

I needed a few quick roofing materials to finish a job and drove like hell to get to the store and came 10 minutes to close and the doors were locked and no one answered the phone. I went around the back and the door was open so I came in and someone greeted me with the phone still ringing. The employee wasn’t able to ring me up so I left there because the person who deals with customers took off early for the day. If you’re open until a advertised time, you should be able to stick around until then. That’s what you are getting paid for.

worst customer experience…

The worst customer experience I have ever had. It’s almost hard to sum up in a review because every single step was so disappointing. We ordered roofing materials from Builders 1st Source because the price we were told was much better than local competitors. Not only did we end up paying more in the end we also ended up with months of delays and a complete and total lack of communication or professionalism. The associate that handled the order was never available for questions or updates, mistakes were made, items were missed, timelines were not met, delays were not communicated, deliveries were missed and worst of all my phone calls, messages and emails went completely unanswered. As I write this review I am still waiting for a response to my last phone call which was 11 days ago when I was promised someone would call me promptly when I called to express my discontent after my billing was also completely mismanaged. I very strongly recommend taking your business anywhere else.

Kudos to Wayne Madison @ Builders First Source, Punta Gorda, Fl

I am thankful to Wayne Madison at Builders First Source in Punta Gorda Florida for first class attention and devotion to my needs. I appreciate Wayne Madison because I'm a septuagenarian now and can't get along without somebody to get me through the standard bureaucracy and daily issues. To that end, Wayne continues to help me. He make sure things get delivered when promised and on time. Yesterday the delivery was actually a few hours early. Businesses earn reputations but the reputations are based not on advertisements or public relations. They're based on the individual contributions of good people. they are hard to come by these days. That makes Wayne Madison a true gem.

I don’t even give it one star

I don’t even give it one star. Wish I would have read the reviews before I got tangled up with them. The reviews are correct, they are order takers that is it. If you are buying windows do yourself a favor avoid the stress. My experience was with the Davenport, IA store. Never again.

Get your supplies before paying

Like several other folks who posted reviews, builders first has a bad habit of taking your money but not delivering orders. Next step…file a complaint with the BBB.

Replaced 5 windows in 2 years

Bella Vista used this company for our windows. The home was 2 years old when we had to replace 4 broken seal windows. One year later- we replaced the largest window in our home on our dime. Today we reported window number 6! Their response: contact our third party and pay for labor. Windows should have an expected life time of longer than 3 years. Do not buy from Bella Vista if they used BFS for windows.
