I thought I was at the main page of the hotel website only when my booking went through I realised I could not alter my booking and it charged me way more than the rate I booked for.Don’t ever book through them

Scam

Booking page said price was $268. That became $400 when payment was processed. No warning. No possibility of cancellation without losing huge associated ‘fees’. If this isn’t illegal, it ought to be. Shameful business practices.

Don't ever book with getaroom. THEIVES

Yeah don't ever book with getaroom. Total scam highly don't recommend. My wife and I accidentally double booked a room. She booked it with bookaroom and immediately canceled it after I told her I had already booked it. Long story short, they don't do refunds and because we canceled it they canceled our room. So they are taking our 260 bucks and not reinstating our room. Literally stealing our money. I'll be posting this to as many sites as possible as I'm pretty irate.

Rip off company

I was travelling from Scotland to South England and wanted to break journey. Booked a hotel half way south for overnight. Reviewed booking day before travel only to realise hotel was in opposite direction North of where I was travelling. Hundreds of miles from where I searched or where I was going Tried to contact hotel several times hotel no response. No reply to emails Additionally hurricane hit area and closed roads and any access to hotel anyway. No means of contacting company apart from phone. Do not go near this organisation who show cheaper rates to suck you in but somehow show you a hotel nowhere near your destination giving the belief it is. This is a scam and do not go near it. Bad for customers leaving me stuck and having to drive for 10!hours as I unable to book at last minute. Lost a lot of money as only realised error too late to cancel. No contact no refund. And putting me in danger. Bad for businesses who are associated with this organisation.

Shady business practices

Very deceptive booking practices. The site looks like it is the actual hotel’s website, once you book, there is no breakdown of the costs and not notice that you are booking from a third party or that the room rate is higher than anywhere else. Shady and shameful. Even on the credit card statement, it appears to be from the booking hotel. Ours was The Black Swan Inn and the line item on hotel bill states HTL*THEBLACKSWANIN , and only upon clicking on the website link on the credit card did we see that this was from bookaroomcom. Of course we could not cancel and rebook the room. They charged us an additional $20 more than what we would have paid from the hotel and other third party sites but at first it appears that it is cheaper. For instance, they said our room was $92. When we booked it, it came to $142 with no way of seeing itemized bill or canceling. Shameful This hotel was in the Best Western Family and it makes me wonder if they are knowledgeable of this scam happening because if so, they might be able to block them from using their hotels on their platform.

Copy Site is 'Bookaroom' vs original Book-A-Room

Site is a replica of the original site having you believe your on the Actual Hotel site. On a direct comparison of all fees included between the original site and copy site ,the copy site added an additional 40% more ($50.44) for the same room type. When we arrived at the Hotel I was told they didn't have a relationship with "Bookaroom" site. The original site is "Book-A-Room"

TERRIBLE COMPANY

I wish I could give this company zero stars. I was forced to use them due to a sports tournament. I wanted to modify my room to a bigger room due to more family members coming then originally planned. Once booked, they can not do anything. They will not work with the hotel to change or modify the reservation and they do not allow you to cancel. So I am stuck in a king room with 5 people. It took me 8 phone calls and 6 transfers and back and forths between them and the hotel to figure out that I was out of luck and this is a useless surface that just screws you over and steals your money. The service reps kept telling me to call the hotel directly and the hotel kept telling me to call the 3rd party. After several calls, I was left with the final response that my request to modify room has been denied. Even thought there were plenty of double queen rooms available. There is nowhere on their site to write a review and I assume this is due to all the awful reviews I am seeing elsewhere. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THIEVES!

I would give this a lower score

I would give this a lower score, but I can’. This is a bait and switch company. They mislead me to thinking I was paying a set price for a room and then tacked on $75 in fees. Avoid this company.

Con-job. Encourage everyone to report them.

Opposites on deception. My father (in his 70s) thought he was booking direct through Comfort Inn, where we've stayed for years. Logo on top of the page for Comfort Inn, so he thought it was the Comfort Inn he was dealing with. Nope, charged $100.00 service fee. He then realized he was dealing with a 3rd party and immediately canceled. Turns out, you can cancel, but the reservation is "non-refundable". This is a con-job.

Non refunded

I called book a room for a weekend for the last weekend of July on Friday, April 12th and 2 hrs later found out I was double booked so immediately called back and canceled with them... same day approximately 2hrs later. Be careful with these folks, I lost almost $800 with them because it is non refundable. I have battled for 2 days to get my money back and nothing can be done. I am completely sick, could not afford to loose this money but it is gone.

I booked 6 nights in a hotel in…

I booked 6 nights in a hotel in Australia. The nightly price was apparent but after payment a $808 tax & hotel extras charge was on my receipt. I cancelled the booking 4 minutes later.I contacted the hotel to ask about the $808.00 fee and they said that was not part of there fees structure. It has been three weeks since and 6 emails later and I have still not received my refund of approx $2500.00 Not happy with this company...

My reservation

My reservation, intended for a dance competition, was scheduled for March 8th through the 10th. Initially, I was under the impression that the booking had been made directly through Hyatt's official website. However, upon attempting to cancel the reservation, I discovered that it had actually been made via a third-party service, BookARoom. During my initial call to what I believed was Hyatt's customer service, the representative did not disclose their affiliation with BookARoom. It was only after contacting Hyatt Corporate directly that the involvement of the third-party booking service was clarified. This experience has raised concerns regarding transparency and communication between service providers. I intend to address this issue diligently with my bank to seek resolution and to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.

Worst booking site - corrupt cowboys.

I had the exact same issue as the last review. I thought I was booking with the hotel. I was really careful about that. I then needed to change my dates and phoned the hotel who informed I had booked with Expedia. I was completely shocked. This was news to me. It then transpires I’ve booked with Book a Room which is part of the Expedia group. They are so utterly useless and incompetent and I’ve lost a fortune. They send emails claiming they’re sorting my issue and then claim I haven’t responded when I have. I’ve not been able to change dates. They’re clearly corrupt cowboys. My advice would be don’t book online. Phone the hotel so you know who you’re speaking to. I don’t use booking websites. I used to thinking I was getting the best deal, but actually have realised the best deals come directly from the hotel. These people should illegal and need closing down immediately. Avoid anything Expedia and Book a Room unless you want a terrible experience.

This site is not the hotel!!!

This site deceptively place their website feed above the actual hotel and make it look like it is the actual hotel. Then they add an 100% markup as fee, which the hotel does not charge. If you are booking on your phone it can be hard to see the fine print. As soon as I hit the confirm and saw the total cost, I realized my mistake and called to cancel. However there is a $500 charge to cancel. BEWARE! I actually had a pleasant conversation with the service person I called in the Philippines and she did try to get a partial refund so kudoos for that. Honestly if they just charged a 5-10% markup I would have chided myself and moved on- but since it was $300 I had to fight back and will continue to until some level of fairness occurs.

DO NOT use this company

DO NOT use this company. I booked a room not realizing they were a third party. Realizing the charge was more than I anticipated, I asked the gentleman for the breakdown of the room charges - He NEVER mentioned his fee of $15.99 for the booking but assured me that I would get a TOTAL refund if I needed to cancel before the day of my reservation. After the call, I looked at the confirmation email and it showed the reservation booking fee. I specifically asked for the breakdown of the fees while on the call. NEVER was a booking fee mentioned!! VERY misleading and I'm very disappointed in the agent that mislead me - even after asking. It's sad that he was dishonest. I immediately cancelled my reservation but was never refunded the $15.99 booking fee. He mislead me on the TOTAL refund policy as well. Had I known there was a fee associated with his service, I would have never booked and would have realized immediately I was speaking with a third party. Upon cancelling my reservation and asking them to waive the $15.99 booking fee, they provided me with a telephone number of the company who handles their processing fee ....when you call that number, it goes straight to a recording. DISHONEST. This is something I could have handled on my own by booking online but had a few questions to ask about military discounts and therefore the only reason I called. After looking back on the conversation, the agent was aware that I thought I was speaking to the front dest at the hotel. He just ignored my questions and told me that I could provide my I.D upon checking in & quickly reminded me that I would get a total refund if I needed to cancel my reservation.

Do NOT book through this site

I did not realize I was not booking with the hotel directly. I received a service fee of over 50% of the price of the rooms due to this being a 3rd party. I called and was offered a $100 credit for a $1,800 fee. This is unacceptable, how are they even allowed to stay in business with such deceptive practices.

Please shut them down. The whole experience has been traumatic

Like others I would give no stars if I could. Booked a triple room at a hotel in Vienna. Less than 24hrs later rang to change the booking for the following week due to my daughter having an unscheduled exam. This was 2 months in advance. They said I couldn't change and if I cancelled I would lose $100% of my money. $2000 I have lost. Like others I thought I was booking the hotel directly. Only when I phoned I realised my mistake. They are so misleading as everything looks so realistic. Why are they not being shut down? I don't understand why they are still allowed to operate. They are a scam!

I would leave zero stars if I could

I would leave zero stars if I could. Absolute scam. Added on another £50 to booking. Very deceptive, looked as though I was booking directly through The Holiday In. But the site was intercepted. They then add on fees that are not quoted. I emailed and received an automated email. Really bad customer service, just a blanket email. Called Holiday Inn themselves and they were apologetic but it is out of their hands. Just beware everyone I think of myself as savvy but have been totally scammed. Booking.com is a much better route and free cancellation. Do not book with this company!!
