I don't like to pay in money and time for pseudoscience.
I only had it done to me - without my permission - once. Asked what the hel- she was doing to my back. I didn't even go there for a back or neck injury - and it's generally a rule that you tell a patient what you're thinking of doing and GET THEIR PERMISSION. Anyway, she hurt my back. And for what? PSEUDOSCIENCE with no reality base, no scientific evidence, NOTHING behind it. As a healthcare provider myself I was horrified at the hoaxes they're perpetrating on people . THIS one isn't even "just" placebo like reiki peiki, or the ridiculous use of ultrasound for pain (hint: there is not only no evidence, but no mechanism of action, like all the other PT scams!): THIS one could harm people. And the premise behind it is so ridiculous I don't see how people don't run screaming the first day of "training". May as well read people's astrology "prediction" for the day, or have them open a fortune cookie and read the random paper. Others to watch out for besides the Graston scam include "soft tissue mobilization" (waste of time and money, no basis in reality), "active release technique" - yet another thing like Graston only hands on like "soft tissue Moblilization", "dry needling - acupuncture without all the woo noises about medians and chi alignment and other BS..."So yeah, don't get it. It's painful for a placebo. Next time have them wave their arms in undulating patterns over you while chanting, " you feel all betta now, you fell all betta now".

I should have gotten up and smacked my chiropractor. I was scraped on my back upper neck area. I was bruised, red, and 6 months later, my skin is still tingling, and I only did this crap ONE time. I was told, "wow" you did great, better than my big male patient who puts a leather belt in his mouth to bite, while he does it. OMG, I felt like I had been drug down a concrete road, and will NEVER DO THIS AGAIN, it was HELL for me. I really want to go back, and scrape the chiropractor, and let him see just how hard he scraped. My skin is so sensitive now, 6 months later, that I cannot still stand to touch it in some places. Worse than severe sunburn !

This is the most painful thing I've ever done. I've had childbirth and kidney stones, and it didn't hurt as bad as this. Don't do it !!! It's horrible. I have pain on my skin still from scraping, and only did it one time. NEVER AGAIN. IT IS AWFUL

AWFUL COMPANY!!
AWFUL COMPANY!!! They heist your information off the internet and start sending you emails that you never signed up for. When calling to find out how they got your email, you're greeted with a rude, smart alec, entitled phone rep who has zero respect for your time. Turn and run.

I use the Graston Technique every day I am working in the clinic. I believe that the instruments we use matters very little compared to the philosophy of this system. It is more than simply grabbing an instrument using an instrument to mobilize the soft tissue, it's more the what, why and how. Once you can understand the concepts you can begin to apply them to your treatment plan. You can also understand when and where it is recommended to apply the treatments to get the most effective treatments with the time you have with your patients.

I love using the Graston
I love using the Graston it really target muscles joints that I wanted to work on. The only problem that I have is that the grip and repetitive stroke caused me some elbow and wrist problem. Other than that I love it.

It depends....
It depends....I have been through Level 1 and 2, currently "GTS". I honestly think it depends on your patient population. For your younger and more athletic populations I find it to be an effective treatment intervention. For more chronic "layered" dysfunction, chronic pain/hypersensitivity, and older de-conditioned populations do not seem to respond as well to it. I know the instructors would disagree, but like most other instructors for con-ed courses I have taken over the years, they are in Private Practice and/or in a franchised clinics that mostly treats athletes and/or more active, healthy individuals. Working for a hospital system where you see many unhealthy, deconditioned individuals, I feel that Graston is not as effective. I am still glad I have been through the training, am certified, and have the intervention in my assessment/treatment tool-box for appropriate patients.

This technique is for real!
This is one of the best techniques I ever learned. I use it on 80% of my patients to help with soft tissue issues/conditions and had such great success that I became an instructor for the Graston Technique company. I have been teaching for them for 11 years and I still enjoy hearing the success stories from my former students! Best of all, the evidence continues to grow in support of the many ways that this technique helps patients!

The company does a good job of promoting this technique and stresses the training that must be done to be credentialed. A little over the top with protecting the brand name but I suppose that is the realty of corporate America. The web site is easy to navigate, informative and generally looks good. The training sessions are excellent and participants and teachers are always very enthusiastic. I am pleased to have incorporated the Graston technique into my practice. It has been inspiring, educational and beneficial to hundreds of patients.
