Payroll4Free no longer trustworthy
For many years I used Payroll4Free to process my payroll for two small businesses. Everything was great for many years and in 2024 I invested in the company to get lifetime free payroll services. In the summer of 2025 the owner of Payroll4Free passed away. Once he passed I was told I could still enter my payroll at no charge, but I would now have to pay for more than one payroll posting per month. I did this through January 2026 in order to complete my 2025 filings and process my W2s and W3. In February I decided to process the payroll myself. I used Payroll4free to get the deductions correct, downloaded the spreadsheet, then deleted the payroll without posting. The second week in February I was not allowed to download or print my payroll deductions without posting first. This has never been the case for 15 years. I plan to check into legal options since I have a contract for free payroll for the life of my business (I've gotten less than two years of benefit). I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Did not report any 941 reports for…
Did not report any 941 reports for years to the feds. When I realized this, I asked them for the reports as I had cancelled because they did not file state taxes consistently. They would not release the payroll data, and would not answer any calls. They were paid every month. I will be reporting them to the government as this is unethical and illegal practices.

HORRIBLE people to work with since Judy…
HORRIBLE people to work with since Judy left. I cancelled the service with the required form on March 13 and have yet to receive a refund of the annual service fee. I've called well over 50 times and have never reached a person. I leave a message every single time and no one has ever returned my calls. They have responded to a couple emails by saying your request has been forwarded to someone else and then I never hear back. I have filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General. I'm using Gusto now and they are so much better!

Terrible software and they charge you…
Terrible software and they charge you for their service. I never even cut a check, and they charged me. I cancelled their "payroll service" in 2023 and this month THEY CHARGED ME AGAIN. I complained and showed them PROOF that it was cancelled... an email from one of their agents... and they ignored me. I attempted to contact them repeatedly and got ignored.DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!
I would give Payroll4Free zero stars if I could. I have been a client for several years, and when Mike was running things, it was pretty decent. However, ever since Chaim took over, things have gone downhill FAST. It is impossible to reach anyone for customer service issues, and they constantly miss filing deadlines for payroll forms and payments. Then, they flat out refuse to reimburse you for any penalties that are assessed by the IRS or the state. Chaim has no idea how to run a business and it almost appears as if he is intentionally running Payroll4Free into the ground. At this point, they deserve to have a class action lawsuit filed against them for FRAUD! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Payroll4free is terrible and expensive
Payroll4free went from being $15 to $25 to $35 very quickly with no added services. They filed my taxes late and did not reimburse for the penalties and interest I incurred because of it. I cancelled and they continued to bill my checking account causing me to have to put a stop pay request in at the bank. You can never contact anyone at the company and if you do get through they tell you one thing and do another so it doesn’t matter anyway. Terrible. They messed up so much stuff they should have been paying me. Do yourself a favor and read their google reviews before hiring them!!

I signed up to work with this company…
I signed up to work with this company to do our payroll. It started out fine and relatively smoothly. However, what I didn't know was that they neglected to file some tax returns, claiming that my tax account with the gov was closed -- but Payroll4Free did not communicate that to me, nor did they take any pro active action to resolve the issue. It wasn't until months later when I received notices from the gov that taxes hadn't been filed. It was only then that Payroll4 Free actually filed the taxes, but late fees and penalties ensued. I didn't think that was a problem given Payroll4Free "guarantees" that if there's any fees or penalties, they'll pay them. Well, their CEO Mike Rosenberg specifically wrote me that he will not honor it. So, now I'm stuck with late fees and penalties because Payroll4Free didn't do their job, nor did they honor their guarantee. I also previously spoke with Mike when he was trying to solicit me to invest in his company before they plan to go public. I declined because of my concerns, but it seems they are more focused on building up revenues instead of customer service, keeping their commitments, and establishing a solid reputation. I'd strongly discourage anyone from working with this company.
