Completely wrong
Complete bullshit, literally impossible that the DNA results are correct, matched up breeds that make no sense for the dog.

Sent off samples dec 2025 and still no results. Terrible company, seems they only want your money.
I received the Pet DNA kit as a gift in early December and sent it off a couple of weeks later. Mid January I received the package ‘return to sender’ as it apparently didn’t pass Irish customs regulations (?). Since then I’ve received 2 emails from Ancestry telling me my results will be with me soon? Funny since they’ve never received the actual kit. Total scam
I asked for a DNA Test for my dog for my Xmas Present. My boyfriend didn't research very well and got Ancestry Pet DNA off Amazon because it had 4 stars. We submitted our results almost 2 months ago and they arrived this morning. Excruciatingly long wait. We are aware of our dog is a JRT crossed with a Collie Cross. Ancestry didn't pick any of the Collie's side up and said she was 75% JRT and 2 other terrier breeds. Waste of money. I should've told him to get a refund. So disappointed with the use of AI on their website too. Gross. Could use the money you scam out of people to pay for a stock image license and use real images of dogs rather than AI images of them.
There is no way to select 0 stars, but if i could that would be the rating. we adopted a chihuahua/Jack Russel terrier mix from a shelter and used this joke of a "DNA" test. the test took a long time and when we got the results, it was Husky, German Shepherd and Pit Bull. there is no way there is any husky or shepherd in this little guy. and then try to get customer support? doesnt happen. no response.
If I could rate 0 stars I would. Bought this kit on Amazon which stated had 4 stars so figured it was good. Well we got the kit fast, tested the dog and sent it out beginning of December and as of today (which after poor communication, and emailing them constantly- they estimated I’d have results today)… so where are they? Awful company. Being bought out/changing to a different company brand and truthfully wouldn’t recommend them either as they’re probably the same shit show run by the same people. Do NOT use these kits. From ancestry or biopet.
I wish I read the reviews prior to my boyfriend buying from this. We sent it in on December 1. I reached out last month for an update and they said “it could take 5-8 weeks” which is bananas, but okay. It’s February 3 and still nothing. I feel like what was supposed to be a special moment has just been tainted by these scammers. Maybe it’s the universe saying my dog is 100% that b— and I should just leave it at that. Either way. Do NOT use. They also are switching to a new company (or bought out, I skip over the pop up every time I refresh for any update whatsoever only to be disappointed). Either way. Do NOT use.
I mailed my dog's sample 6 weeks ago and the lab never started processing it, saying it must have been lost in mail. Ancestry did offer to give me a new kit but said they would absolutely not process the first one, if for some odd reason it did finally show up. The problem is my first sample was from my dog who was sick and passed away a few weeks ago so I can't get another sample. In addition, when concerned about it taking over 3 weeks to show received, the company said not to worry because it often takes longer. Now, my dog has passed and I can't get another sample and they wont even process it if it does arrive if I get another kit. I would like a replacement kit as I have other dogs and paid $69 for the first one but I had my heart set on knowing what mix my Ranger was. Very long process. Would not use them again. Very insensitive as well.
Save your money, I sent the kit on November 13, 2025 and they extracted the DNA on November 24, 2025 and then crickets. I called on January 16, 2026 to ask what the problem was, they said they would put a ticket in - so to me it says that they lost my sample since they sent me a PDF on my pets data and it had nothing on it. What a rip off
This is one of the most problemic platforms and the worst customer service I've ever encountered. Something went wrong with registration and I can't access my account. There is apparently no way to go back, which fine - maybe I messed up. But we can't even get to that conversation because the customer service bots can't handle requests that go beyond their FAQs.I have been corresponding back and forth with customer service between December 5 and as I write this on January 10, it is still unresolved. I basically had to "pull a Karen" and ask to speak to the manager. Who by the way, did not get back to me. I doubt they even have a manager. An issue happened with my registration, and I keep getting the same verbatim response. It's as if either AI is responding, or a respresentative is copy and pasting a response. The problem is, the response is not helpful to my situation. They are not even responding to my problem with relevance. I knew that there is a strong liklihood that I messed up on the registration. I can accept that my mistake cost me $65. Unfortuante, but fine, I get it. What I can't get over is the amount of time I wasted over the past month trying to communicate an issue with accessing my account without receiving the proper assistance. Choose a different company. If something goes wrong, don't count on them to even understand what's wrong, nonetheless how to make it right.
Originally, I tried to cancel my purchase immediately after buying it after reading other reviews ancestry ignored me for over a week and a half and then shipped the product anyways a week and a half later I decided to try to use the product since I was forced to pay for it. Put my dogs stuff in two months ago still no results no answer from the company scams. They just steal your money that’s why they’re no longer available on walmart.com and other popular sites
If I could give this a zero, I would. The results are laughable. My dog is a terrier mix and it’s clear in a lot of her physical features but this test said she was a poodle/pit bull mix. Are they serious?!? All you have to do is look at her to see these results are wrong. Sad to see that they aren’t honest about their results. It makes me think they used some other dog’s test!!
Wish I could give it a 0. Website worked fine all the way until October 2nd when said analyzing dna and for two days now my page won't load and neither will the support page. As someone above said nothing but an unhelpful bot. Wish my kids would of read the reviews before gifting this to me.
Inaccurate resultsIf I could give a zero I would, I was hoping for a partially accurate test but there test is way off. AI pictures have more of an accurate option then there test. I have a 25 lb small dog /puppy in shape really no extra weight with a large head and their test says it's a chihuahua 87 % and a shih Tzu 13%. If you spending money go do the research other options available along with the negative reviews . This test is so far off and generic , not sure if they had a training class and didn't have the time to review accuracy before sending the results out. Look at Ancestry.com | BBB Better Business it shows a lot.
5/1/2025 I purchased 2 Doggy DNA kits from Ancestry.com. In creating a profile, the app asks you what your best guess is as to breed of the dog. I know that I inputted "Pomeranian and Pekingese" for dog #1 as that's what we were told at his rescue. The samples were mailed back and "analyzed" and our results were posted 7/8/25. We are to believe that dog #2, our rescued mutt, is a purebred shih tzu, despite the fact that he is much bigger and looks nothing like a shih tzu. I could not recall what guess I inputted for him and it turns out there is no way to find out. Regardless, dog #1 came back exactly 50% Pomeranian 50% Pekingese. Quite curiously coincidental after the flub with dog #2. These results reflect that the samples were clearly not analyzed. I have reached out via the Ancestry process; submit a complaint on their site, and someone will email you. No one has emailed me for a week after 3 complaints. I finally called Ancestry themselves today and was told that the transaction was non-refundable. They never asked why I was requesting a refund. This was the second time I called. The first time, they put me on hold to find my account. For 10 minutes. I hung up and called back, was denied a refund, and when I questioned it, the line went quiet. The agent was still on the phone but decided not to speak anymore. This is highly unprofessional, and I just want the situation rectified.
Would make it zero stars if I could. Completely failed test stated my results are back and then the website glitches so nowhere to see the results. No way to contact ancestry only a chat bot that doesn’t help with anything. Absolute crock of shit don’t waste your money
We wanted to find out our rescue dog's dna as he's definitely a chihuahua cross. We were told by our vets that jack russell and whippet were in the mix, however ancestry came back with 91% chi and 9% "coton de tulear". Our dog has short smooth fur, large upstanding ears (think Dobby) and a long snout and looks absolutely nothing like the coton (never heard of this breed before - long thick white coat - a bit like a maltese) so don't know where that came from. They had a picture of him from his profile so would see (if they looked) how off they are
It took months to get results and when finally arrived-the characteristics both physically and personality-wise were unrecognizable. And as always -saying my dog is a chihuahua😳I’d heard they call everyone’s a chihuahua. Save your money on this site. Horrible experience all around.
Bought DNA test and sent in ... was giving text messages through all processes. When sent me the text my dogs DNA was done.. when I went to look I could not find any information. I called and 30 minutes later I was told the test was deleted, no reason just deleted. Horrible service and last money
This is the worst company to deal with customer service is a complete disaster! I sent in one kit to be analyzed and I was given two different results of two different breeds of dog…. Then they’re trying to blame me? How is it my fault? I spent my hard earned cash don’t waste yours on this con, basically what it is…. Thanks for wasting my time and money because that’s what happened…on to another company that is definitely not associated with pet ancestry! What a sad joke this company is! One pissed off pet owner! Thanks for nothing. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
