We have a 16x80 Clayton home

We have a 16x80 Clayton home. Was built in 2011. 2015 was my purchase date. Sure wish I would have went with another brand. For starters, 2020 we had to replace the entire roof shingles. Due to the roof leaking in multiple places. Today we started instaling new floor throughout home. After tearing out old carpet and getting down to the subfloor. We realized there are 8 places where we are going to have to tear out the subfloor. All along the front wall of the home. And we have noticed the bottom of the front wall 2×4 framing is rotted in 4 places about 2 ft up. There is no over hang on our home. That's the way it was made. But obviously, when it was built, they didnt seal around the top corners of the walls where it meets the roof system, correctly. Plus, the roof system itself is 4 to 5 inches off from where the walls actually sit. Same thought most of the home. The ceiling has settled and broke away about 3 to 4 inches from each wall. All on the same sides of those walls. This is because the roof and ceiling have settled while the walls have not. Each wall was supposed to be aligned with the truss system in the roof. But obviously they failed that completely. It looks aweful. Had been considering trading in or selling our home and buying a new Double wide. Now, we are goning to have to wait until we get the rotted walls fixed and sheetrock in those places replace. Before we would even consider selling it to someone. Yeah, I know it's been 15 years. But shouldnt have rotted walls where water runs down around the corners of the roof and wall joining areas or around the windows if it would have been built right. Needless to say, I will never buy Clayton anything again. All the rot was unknown and hidden until we decided to replace carpet with new flooring. Hadn't done that, guess it would have eventually just collapsed in on us. Clayton Homes? You guys should want to build better homes than that!!!! How have you stayed in business all these years? Thats a quandary!

Clayton Homes Woodlawn Virginia

For the past few years, my husband and I have been thinking of placing a second home in Virginia. In November when driving to our VRBO, we passed Clayton Homes on Carrollton Pike in Woodlawn. We decided that once settled in, we would visit Clayton Homes. During our first visit, Lisa Larkin listened to what we were looking to do and provided us with the opportunity to visit a model. It was as if Lisa intuitively knew what we wanted as the model and the layout had everything we had in mind. Fast forward to our visit in February, and Zach Fisher and Lisa showed the highest level of professionalism taking the time to: evaluate the property we own; evaluate the best placement of what is needed to build our second home; assist with our desire to place our home on a different lot; provide guidance; and answer our questions. Lisa and Zach consistently demonstrate a high level of knowledge, provide continual support and maintain continual communication as we work through the process of being a second home. We feel highly confident with the craftsmanship and quality of the Clayton home we selected as it includes all that we wanted including the way the home is laid out. We look forward to our continued working partnership with Clayton Homes, Zach and Lisa as our second home is being built and placed. We highly recommend anyone looking to build a high quality home in the Southwestern region of Virginia to reach out to the highly professional team at Clayton Homes in Woodlawn, Virginia.Mary and Sam Scialdone

Mid-Project Review - Michael Bullock

I'm working with the South Hill, VA location. Michael Bullock is my project manager for my home setup in Chase City, VA. I've been extremely happy working with Mike on our home setup to date. He always answers questions, keeps everything well organized and on track, and consistently offers great suggestions we wouldn’t have thought of. His communication has been clear and proactive, which has made the entire process far less stressful.Mike has gone above and beyond to make our new home exactly what we envisioned, with every detail carefully managed. Mike has ensured the process runs smoothly and without unnecessary stress. We felt he truly deserved a mid-project review because of how helpful and professional he’s been. I will leave a final review once the set up is complete and the home is move in ready.

Poor Craftsmanship and No Accountability

I am extremely dissatisfied with the quality of Clayton Homes’ craftsmanship in Northern AZ. From the very beginning, it was clear that subpar materials and careless work were the standard, not the exception. There were misalignments everywhere, broken exterior sashes, and trim along the modular joint already popping up in several locations. Doors were misaligned, latches didn’t function properly, and the bathrooms weren’t sealed correctly, creating cracks and leaving me concerned about future water damage. The same issues appeared around window frames, where poor sealing will inevitably cause cracking and water intrusion.Additional problems included a hose spigot that wasn’t properly secured and a dryer vent with a massive gap due to sloppy installation,“fixed” by smothering it in caulk rather than cutting and fitting materials correctly.Even worse than the poor construction was Clayton’s lack of accountability. Despite reporting these issues, they failed to honor their warranty. They repeatedly claimed technicians were scheduled, only to reschedule over and over until the warranty period expired—then stopped responding altogether. This is deceptive and unacceptable.Overall, Clayton Homes’ workmanship and customer service have been deeply disappointing. I would strongly caution others to think twice before investing in one of their homes.I've been seeing this terrible craftsmanship from clayton since 2020 finally got around to writing it up in a review

Just stay away

Just stay away. I've had so many issues with this home it's ridiculous. I bought it new and the doors in some of the rooms would not close, the front door had to be removed and reinstalled because it would not lock. Light fixture had to be replaced since there was a constant flickering of the light. I had a leaky window in the front bedroom. Kitchen drawers that had to be worked on since they would not close. The 220 outlets to the dryer did not work. I had my brother-in-law fix that since he is a licensed electrician. I just had 3 windows that lost gas and have condensation between the panes that I need to replace on my dime since the 1 yr warranty has expired. Dishwasher went out that I don't use.To their credit they did fix some of the things during warranty which is a year. They use cheap parts, and it looks like QC is basically nonexistent. This is about the same quality as a RV. It's sad. I'm selling this once I replace the windows and will never consider buying a Clayton again.

Buyer beware when buying a Clayton Home

We made the mistake of buying a Clayton Homes in Hixson TN, and became a nightmare as soon as the contract was signed. The salesman Nick, did not disclose that it would be 6 months before we could move in. Why? Time to buy the lot, apply for septic and house permits, get power, water, choose the house, and have it built. We had the land, we had the septic and house permits, water and power were already on the land. We paid cash and I had called the builder that would build the house. They said it would be finished and delivered in a week to 10 days. I have documents to support everything stated in this reviewSo at that point I thought half of the things were done so we should be in the house in 2 to 3 months. WRONG. It was 6 months to the day. Then we got the walkthrough. Stuart, the manager come over for a walkthrough and asked what all was wrong with the house. I told him what I had found and he said that was all he had to do. I knew I had a 30 day warranty on the cosmetic problems and a full year on the exterior and placement of the house. So I hired a home inspector who found dozens of problems, some serious. And I sent Stuart a copy of the report with a demand letter. We finally managed to get the more serious problems fixed. UNTIL we discovered the house had been set on less than a foot of clay with topsoil under it, That breaks both HUD and Clayton Homes on Construction manual rules. So we asked Stuart to fix it. He said he would only do it if we forced him to. We did some discovery and found out there are about 12 places we can contact. We can file complaints with several as well as other resources. We are going to do all of them. NO one should be deceived into thinking they are getting something they are not getting. Our warranty on the pad and placement of the house is still in force. Our house is sinking. And one way or another we plan to get Clayton Homes Hixson Tennessee to fix it or take the house back and refund the money.
