Terrible firm of Solicitors

I have seen this firm of Solicitors operate from both Probate/Wills and conveyancing departments. I can say I wouldn't recommend them for either of those services. A major error from a senior Solicitor was to write 2 different dates on a Will which was submitted to Probate. This caused significant delays with Probate when they rightfully picked up on the error. I really don't know how they get repeat customers/clients judging by my own, and many others experience. They have no clue about managing expectations or indeed fulfilling them. Questions via email or telephone go unanswered. One member of staff will tell you one thing and you get a different answer from another. This applies to both Probate and conveyancing. All in all an awful process I certainly hope never to repeat.

Very poor

My aunt was a customer of Mason Baggott Garton for decades. She hardly needed to use them but trusted them. She appointed Mason Baggott Garton to act as executors because she had faith in them. Her best friend and I both feel sure would have been sad and angry about their 'service'.Their communications were awful. They needed chasing a lot, either through inefficiency or because they preferred to keep the proceeds of the estate in their account for as long as possible. We ended up with low confidence in their service and this caused us needless stress at an already difficult time.In addition, basic standards of professionalism and customer service were lacking. Things like the misspelling of names, sending paper cheques instead of bank transfers and mistakenly saying they hadn't received documents when, upon checking, one of their assistants found them in the file.Having dealt with another firm in the local Scunthorpe area recently over another family member's estate, low service levels are not limited to Mason Baggott Garton. Perhaps some of these local firms are complacent and expect local families will automatically use them and they don't need to worry about doing a brilliant job for people.Fortunately those of us who dealt with them had the ability to chase them and knew what questions to ask and how to constructively challenge them. Others may not and so could be subject to even more drawn out distress due to this poor service. I'm left feeling very sad and disappointed at how Mason Baggott Garton let my aunt down. And also worried that other families will experience this kind of poor service at times in their lives where they need to be able to count on their solicitor.

This has to be the worst solicitors…

This has to be the worst solicitors around, they are incompetent lazy and very slow. I needed a something from my documents, it was very important I rang them 4 times and they never got back to me, I lost out on £100. Stay clear of this rubbish company. I asked Mason Baggott and Garton for the £100 which i lost becauseof them, they said it was not their fault, they said that there was clearly a breakdown in our system which should not have occurred but we are not liable for the £100. They knew it was their fault but refused to pay. I made a complaint but that's been brush under the carpet. Stay clear of this company This has to be one of the useless and incompetent, lawyers firms that I've dealt with. Stay away from this company if you want to lose money and time.

We could not have asked for anymore when we moved home. Emails were replied back to the same day which was a refreshing change. A great service from start to finish.

Very pleased!

They did a very good job and persevered in the face of a complicated and long house move. They handled the sale and purchase brilliantly, and were very helpful when the first purchase fell through. Many thanks to the whole team!

A mixed bag

When our solicitor was in the office our experience was that they will get back to you reasonably quickly, and that they are knowledgeable and helpful Unfortunately during the period of time we where buying there seemed to be someone almost permanently on leave. We almost lost our home at one point because something urgent had been passed to a member of staff who was on leave and this wasn’t picked up for days. Individually solicitors at the practice are brilliant, but institutionally there seems to be some communication issues that need addressing.

Very good. Had a positive experience.

I guess it all depends on the solicitor. We worked with miss Parminder Othi. She is an absolutely brilliant solicitor. Can’t give her enough praise for our conveyancing. We had, in my opinion, quite a complicated case, which involved remortgaging of our house and purchasing an auction house at the same time with a very difficult seller and a deadline being a week at the end. The whole process was quite psychologically drastic to us and took months of hard work with the lenders, auction houses and different people to get through. And in this whole nightmare workload, the only person who was always there, who was always professional, replying promptly and answering all of the queries, and who guided us through this nightmare and lead us to an exit, was her.I don't have much experience with the solicitors, I have only used the solicitors once, for the previous purchase of our house, it was a London based solicitor firm with very good online reviews. And I can tell you, miss Parminder Othi is much better. Just better in everything. In understanding your needs, in giving you a response, in communication. Simply top notch solicitor. It was a pure luck to find her.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Effectively took 7 months to get to the end of the sales process. All correspondence to us and replies when chasing for very delayed updates were rude. The solicitor then didn't even have the decency to tell us the buyer had pulled out after all our final paperwork had been completed (due to the process taking too long...!!) until weeks later. We have now wasted 7 months and I truly believe this sale fell through due to this solicitor and the very poor, painfully slow service. Appalling.... avoid at all costs.

We used Mason Baggott & Garton as our solicitors for our first house purchase. Very efficient, speedy process, always happy to help with any questions we had throughout the process, both the assigned solicitor and the receptionist / assistant.Heard horror stories of some solicitors however we had no issues whatsoever. More affordable than other quotes we had been provided also which being first time buyers was a big help.Overall very happy with the service provided. Will use again and highly recommend!

Want to delay a move, you're in the right place

Probably had one of the most drawn-out processes for the simplest of house moves (Us being a first-time buyer, the seller moving to a new build), this was the seller’s solicitor, I’m glad my one was able to do their job well, even the estate agent apologised saying this was the worst they had in their career. While the seller’s side were wasting time and not giving straight forward answers, my solicitor always responded promptly and gave full details at every point there was a change or needed approval, this was good to have later. The sellers were in the dark multiple times usually for 2 weeks at a time, where they had received no information or updates. This solicitor was more than happy to point the finger at us for delays or repeated questions, it’s good thing I had a play-by-play account from my solicitor, and I could confidently say this was fabricated. At one point the seller wanted to pull out just because of the lack of care from this solicitor. While it is not good due to conflict of interest, I did ensure to be unbiased, they had to rely on me to find out when messages were sent and what details were in them. This move could have been done in Sep/Oct… it didn’t happen till January. In future, if I see this solicitor in the chain, I will walk away.

Conveyancing...

Used MBG for conveyancing on a recent house purchase. We were under a lot of pressure to move quickly by the seller and the team supporting us were fantastic - pulling out all the stops to ensure we completed on time. This is the second time I’ve used MBG and they’ve been great. I would definitely recommend them.

Pathetic levels of communication.

If you’re looking for a conveyancer in order to be ignored, kept out of the loop, and delay your moving process, costing you hundreds of pounds in lost removals, these guys are for you! You can guarantee that every single one of your calls, emails & voicemails will all be ignored, so don’t waste your breath or finger tips. After 4 months of dealing with this firm, I’ve been fortunate enough to be granted 4 conversations over the phone to be provided with an update. Was due to move last Wednesday (4th November). Nothing. Asked for an exchange date today (9th November). Nothing. Believe me when I say this, save yourself the heart ache and misery, and avoid at all cost.
