Terrible experience

Terrible experience. First seller sent item that was damaged and I sent multiple photos to Mercari and they would not allow me to return for refund. 2nd purchase the seller didn't ship for over 2 weeks until I cancelled then all of a sudden there is a fake tracking number and again Mercari didn't cancel sale and refund me and I have yet to receive. Having to go through credit card company to get my money back on the 2nd one. VERY VERY BAD BUSINESS!!!! AVOID!!!!

Worst company ever!

DON'T EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM MERCARII bought a LV bag from a seller who had a lot of 5 -star reviews. I saw in the photos that she had painted the strap of the bag. It didn't look that bad in the photos, but when I got it, I really didn't like it, and it smelled like paint. I knew this was not for me and wanted to return it. I was going out of the country and didn't get a chance to talk to the seller before the 72 hours. I sent her a messages but didn't hear anything back. I contacted Mercari, but didn't hear anything back either. So, I sent the bag back to the seller the next day on Priority Mail. B because it was the last day that I could send the bag back before leaving the country for one week. I thought that was the best way I could do. I just wanted to make sure that the seller got her item back (stupid me).When I got back a week later, I had not heard from the seller. I messaged her multiple times on the site to explain what happened and that I'd like a refund. I never heard back from her. I called Mercari's number, and they said that if it's past the 72 hours, they can't do anything. They can't help because I sent the item back by myself without their label or permission and didn't follow their guidelines, blah, blah, blah. I sent them emails back and forth for the whole week. Again, very very slow response. They denied to help me because I didn't follow their protocol, and I must contact the seller myself. How can I do that? She didn't respond to me. Mercari has access to her account and all the contact info.So now I don't have my money since it's been withdrawn from my account, and I don't even have the bag. I feel like this site is a scam. This is the worst customer service ever. I don't know how they can stay in business. I don't know what to do at this point. I think I will have to call the Better Business Bureau because I am at a loss. If anyone can help out there, that would be great. #buyerbeware

Seller is an idiot

Seller did not pkg item correct&arrived broken- sent replacement item with wrong address&is still floating around fedex system-unable to contact customer service-seller says it is my fault-have paid for item& shipping twice worst ever

Absolutely terrible experience

Absolutely terrible experience. I purchased the item for a holiday party. It was supposed to arrive in time. When it was just a few days before the party, I went to my email to find out where I could inquire about this. That’s when I found an email from the seller telling me that she had recently moved and she could not locate the item to send to me. She then said she would be canceling the order. There is absolutely nowhere for me to file a complaint with Mercari because they do not allow you to access customer service until you have completed at least one purchase and this was my first purchase. I wholeheartedly believe that this seller just found someone to sell it to in person and decided to do that instead and ruin my party by doing so, just so she could avoid the extra hassle,of actually delivering the item to me and chose the easier route of selling it to someone in person instead. Absolute garbage website, garbage seller with zero repercussions from the company,garbage company and garbage customer service.

Extreme lack of common sense.

Not sure how this company is run but after looking at all the reviews online it doesn't seem to be well. After providing clear documentation supporting a claim that an item was not as described, (photos of the package, incorrect weight, etc) this request was denied based on the company’s three-day return policy.While I understand that policies are in place for a reason, the strict application of this policy did not take into account reasonable circumstances, such as customers who use P.O. Boxes and may not be able to check deliveries daily, the facts and proof submitted that I was obviously scammed, and the extreme delay of the (fake) item(s) actually being shipped to me. I also had to contact the seller who said after quite a while "Oh, I thought I shipped that a while ago" or something along those lines.Also to note: it would seem that PayPal offers up to 180 days to dispute items that are considered "significantly not as described" which seems to supersede Mercari's own policy. I am currently trying to pursue the matter through PayPal’s dispute process in order to claw my money back.Not happy with them at all.

Held My Account Hostage

I recently had a purchase issue that was solved with a refund but the second the refund was issued, my account logged me out and I was unable to sign back in. I called but no one answers. I emailed, and it takes them 1 to 2 business days to respond, always by a different agent, and never with any solutions. I sent 14 emails about my issue starting from February 17 2026, seeking assistance to regain access to my account. 14 emails later, I still did not have a solution and I was given a generic AI inspired basic troubleshooting response that I had already been given before. I had already reset my password multiple times through auto-generated links but the login continually failed which means the account was blocked on their end. They held the account hostage and would still be holding it hostage if I hadn't figured out that they blacklisted my IP address. The username and password fields were correct, but they would not allow sign in from my IP address. So I downloaded the Mercari app on my cell phone and entered my credentials. FINALLY, I was given an actually helpful dialogue box that said I needed to connect to a different network. So I logged off wifi, re-entered the exact same credentials and only then, could I sign in. I then tried again on my desktop with the same credentials but connected to the home wifi and was refused sign-on. So I connected my desktop to my cellular hotspot, entered the same credentials, but this time, I was granted sign-on. They blacklisted my IP address and then they lied about it. If I hadn't figured it out on my own, I still would not have access to my account. All for $140..... I will be reporting them to the BBB and any other website where I can give a negative review. I've never seen anything like this before. It's like this site is run by gangsters.

After years of selling on this site

After years of selling on this site, I have to share my experience. It has been absolutely horrible. First of all the idea that these sites take a percentage of your profits just so that you can sell on their site is one thing but to go deeper when they continuously raised that amount and make it more and more difficult to sell on their site is unlawful. Also I agree the intrusiveness is ridiculous.Recently there was a post office mixup where one of my items that I sold went to another person who bought something else from my shop so this one person got two items from me one by mistake. He instantly sent a message telling me the situation. I instantly reached out to someone with customer service who could assist I was hoping They were absolutely useless basically although this package was insured, although this package was interested through their company not just through the post office. They blamed me for the post office‘s mistake, said that I must’ve done something not that the kiosk made a mistake and printed a double label somehow someway it was my fault so thankfully the person sent the item to me but they refuse to allow for us to have any conversation or Any personal details shared so the person that bought the item from me never got the item I never got paid for the sale that I was in need of making that money to pay my bills and then had to wait an additional week to get the item sent back That person who sent the item to me is out of money that they sent the money that they spent to send the item to me. I have no way of getting them that money back and every message that I sent to them telling them that I would comp them back by giving them an extra item from my shop to basically repay them for sending the item to me those messages were strategically deleted.Inconveniently tonight as I’m posting new items they send me a message saying more items equals more money and then the next item was your account is now frozen because of suspicious activity and the suspicious activity was me posting one item for sale absolutely ridiculous. I do not see how this company is still surviving with a 1.2 star rating they do not care about the sellers on their side and that is sad and pathetic.

A 72-Hour Deadline Shouldn’t Protect Counterfeits

I’m very disappointed with how Mercari handles counterfeit goods. I purchased a perfume on the platform from a seller whose profile states that they only sell authentic items, which I (naively) relied on as a buyer.After receiving the item I got suspicious, so I contacted the manufacturer (Byredo) and shared photos of the bottle. They confirmed the item was not authentic.Mercari refused to help because the 72-hour window after delivery had passed, meaning the transaction was automatically completed. Once that happens, there is effectively no protection for buyers, even when a product is confirmed by the manufacturer to be counterfeit.To make matters worse, when I attempted to message the seller to explain what the brand confirmed and see if there was any way to resolve the issue, Mercari blocked the message!It’s very troubling that a strict time cutoff outweighs the sale of counterfeit goods. A procedural deadline should not override basic consumer protection, especially when confirmed counterfeit items are involved.Mercari will not assist buyers after 72 hours, even in cases involving counterfeit products.

This is the most intrusive

This is the most intrusive, censorship app I have EVER had the negative experience of using. The mercari "admin" goes through and reads every single communication you send to buyer/seller and if for whatever reason they dont like, they just delete it. I recently sold an item and after I had already shipped it, I saw I forgot to send one of the instruction manuals and a box one of the accessories came in. I had already printed and mailed the shipping label and could not find the buyers address. So I sent them a message and told them what I had done. I asked for their mailing address and also their email address so I could send them the instructions I had forgot but scanned so that they would have them before the item I shipped arrived. BOTH WERE DELETED BY "ADMIN" I sent probably 4 or 5 additional messages explaining to the seller that admin kept deleting my messages BUT THEY DELETED ALL OF THOSE TOO!!!! I finally subscribed to a people find service, located the individuals phone number and called him. He was completely unaware of any of the messages I had sent. I will NEVER USE MERCARI AGAIN and I will tell everyone who will listen just exactly how they operate.

Mercari needs better customer service

Poor customer service , i sold an item(a DJ Spot light) in very new and fully functional condition , pics for it were in my listing, I sent out item , buyer recieves it and claims it is damaged, buyer sent photos to Mercari. I message the buyer but when i asked of the box was damaged , he stopped talking to me not responding to my messages anymore. Mercari then shows me pics of damage( a dent on the housing), but the box itself is undamaged the padded box intact along with the bubble wrap , my listing photos show no damage , even the side of the item that buyer showed that had a dent, the same side of the item in my listing photo shows no damage. how does an item get damaged when it is securley packed and the box it was delivered in is undamged as well. Mercari customer service could not see that , all they do is glance and decide to side with buyers, but you can see clearly, the photos of my listing has no damage. I sent multiple inquiries and my listing photos to the help center customer service and all they do is copy and pastesiding with the buyer. Mercari needs to rid all of the customer service personal and get people that can do this job, people that can actually read english and take time to review each case. So now I got the item back but it is damaged now and no Mercari protection payment for it. I believe the buyer took it out of the secure box and probably dropped it and caused the damage and claimed damaged upon recieving it. Also explained to Mercari to look at the bracket, the bracket had rust marks on it, my listing photos clearly showed mine. didn't. i dealt with 4 customer reps but still Mercari Reps didnt care they just copy and pasted the same message over and over. The buyer got refunded. Now I'm out of an item , cant resell it now , the buyer was an electronic repair shop, MSA Radio @millsmusic

I bought something that was listing 18K…

I bought something that was listing 18K upon receiving I tested it and it wasn’t that karat and requested a return and Mercari denied the return because I had tested it. How else do you find out???? Not everyone has a ten thousand dollar XR machine to test. They are so stupid. I wouldn’t buy and risk your money there. eBay is better

Very angry at Mercari they the…

Very angry at Mercari they the employees ripped me off by charging me an additional $40 on a $80 sale stealing my money. Use Poshmark if you want to sell anything of large size this company will seriously steel your money with absolutely no recourse, I had been selling on here since 2016 and this had never happened before. Their prepaid labels never had to be “readjusted “ I charged my buyer they appropriate shipping I actually made the shipping for 8lbs when it was actually 5. Customer service was a piece of crap too some jerk named Jabril basically refusing to help me. I will never sell on this platform again and I will tell my story and warn anyone who wants to sell on this scam site. You will eventually run into headaches and pray you don’t need customer service. You will get ripped off here. I have filed multiple complaints with them with the state of California and I will continue to do so even though the have scammed me out of a lot of money almost $80 in unquoted shipping charges. F you Mercari communists and criminals. I hope this app gets shut down for its criminal practices

RIPOFFF

Sold an item, packaged & shipped it. Receipt at drop off says 3lbs, confirmation of delivery says 3lbs (the item itself weighed 2lbs) and an extra 1lb for the box. Once the buyer confirms receipt & it is time to render payment, Mercari issues a price adjustment claiming the item was 11lbs, 8lbs more than I entered in their system & took a $30 price adjustment, paying me out only $3. It has been a week of back & forth with their customer service, to no avail.

Scammed

Sold a highly valuable collectable coin. Buyer claims package was empty but I have video of me packing and sealing it. My account is now limited and it looks like im out of my money? Never ever again will I be using mercari.

If you have an immediate concern you will NOT be able to speak with anyone in regards to the matter. I currently have over $1,445 sitting in my Mecari account since January 2026 no help

I currently have $1,445.28 sitting in my Mecari account from items that have been sold and completed with all positive reviews. This has been going on since January 3, 2026. I have sent numerous messages through there chat...since the customer service number never allows you to speak with anyone. And I continue to get the same message...*we appreciate your patience, we will get this issue to billing and get back to you within 24 hours* it's going on 2 months and they still haven't gotten back to me. That's a lot of money and it's holding up my buisness. It's funny how they treat a loyal seller for 3 years with 285 (5 star) reviews like this. At the end of the day Mecari appears to be a SCAM.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Had UPS miss charge me when I shipped…

Had UPS miss charge me when I shipped an item that was 2 pounds. They said I shipped an item that was 27 pounds and charged me 88$ I spent a week talking to "support" All i got was automated responses and telling me I was the problem. Horrible company.

Worst customer service DO NOT TRUST

Just not worth a minute or a penny. Shipping, seller drama, THE LACK OF HELP Mercari provides - I’m trying and trying to get ahold of them and it’s impossible. Don’t trust this. You pay a ton for shipping as well. Stick to Amazon or pick up in person .

I was forced to pay for rags

The seller described boys shorts as "like new" and "no pulls". Two pair had HOLES in the backside. One pair had the entire hem pulled out and had snags. All had snags and were not fit for any trash can at any thrift store. I asked Mecari to return purchase. THEY REFUSED and sent the money to the seller. Mercari has scams, allows sellers to lie, and should be banned from the Internet.

Mercari supports scammer sellers

I purchased an item from seller “RayRaysTreasures” and the seller lied about the condition and was combative. Mercari approved the return after a week of me pleading with my evidence the seller lied. The seller received the items within 3 days of the approved return. The seller claims they received an empty box. I have proof of packaging it up and the delivery confirmation. Mercari is not enforcing buyer protection or taking into consideration the sellers behavior and repeated pattern of LYING. Mercari is refusing to refund me $443.41 and dragging on an “investigation” but no one is owning this issue and it’s being passed around a call center overseas. I filed claims with FTC, attorney general and FBI for internet sales scams because I was scammed out of my money.

Terrible shopping experience

Terrible shopping experience on Mercari. They don't answer their phones. Randomly decide what customer questions to respond to. And their policies are designed to confuse buyers from getting information on how the site is run. Also, their 3-days to verify a purchase is rediculous and 30-day seller reply policy is outrageous....will never shop this sight again.
