Disability discrimination and unlawful retaliation at Playa Vista location
I am deeply disappointed by what occurred at Modern Animal's Playa Vista location on February 18, 2026 at approximately 4:15 PM.I am a disabled Modern Animal member and had previously requested an ADA reasonable accommodation for some access barriers that I was facing in clinics.Instead of responding to my request, I was met outside by an employee named Margarita, who was waiting at the entrance of the Playa Vista Modern Animal location with her arms crossed, blocking the doorway and refusing to allow me to enter for my scheduled appointment.I was told that staff was "not comfortable" treating me because I had filed a complaint regarding disability discrimination. I was informed that the only way my dog would receive care was if I surrendered him to them and remained outside. If I did not surrender my dog, he would not be treated. The entire interaction was video recorded.Refusing entry to a disabled member after they assert their rights and conditioning veterinary care on surrendering one's pet constitutes unlawful retaliation under disability law. I was sent home with my dog still in pain.Shortly afterward, when I attempted to call to access the 24-hour virtual care included in my prepaid annual membership, the call was terminated after I referenced discrimination, and my number was immediately blocked thereafter.I am currently unable to access services I have already paid for. This experience was shocking and unacceptable.
