Review from former employee
I used to work here for a few months and I left after they asked me to sell myself insurance. Looking back at things the company also definitely has MLM vibes and I genuinely regret working for them.

Andrea Paine came to visit a facility I manage, on this visit she parked off site where staff could not see her arrival or departure. She did not sign the visitor's log or wait for staff to take her to the see the vulnerable adult. Staff were updated by another person who resides in the home that a visitor was in the closed bedroom with vulnerable adult. I and another staff member went into the closed bedroom to find out what was going on. Andrea stated she knew said person and has visited before. I asked Andrea if she had contacted the POA due to the vulnerable adult unable to make decisions on her own? She stated her and the POA will meet the first of the year and they keep missing each other, so I stated " You haven't made contact for permission?" she said she was reminded today was the last day to bring paperwork to the vulnerable adult. I asked my Co-worker to contact POA about what was going on, I asked Andrea for her card which she DID NOT have and said she could run back to work and get it. It was a very odd situation and the vulnerable adult was laying in bed and Andrea was in a chair across the room and they both talked in the dark.Andrea has been to this location before to see the same person and the POA let her know at that time neither was interested in these services and the banking information given was not to be used as vulnerable adult can't make financial decisions. The phone number given to me by andrea isn't the same number listed on the Bankers Life website either.
My Father in law has paid into Bankers Life since 2009. Long term care Claim was submitted in May 2024, every time we call and follow up we are told “something else” is needed. We follow up and resubmit the same documentation to get told another 21 days for review. Nothing but complete run around, while still taking out $200/month. Unbelievable!! Taking advantage of the elderly. One star isn’t good enough for you.
Lies lies lies
I just want to thank Jeff Murphy, our insurance agent, who has handled our insurance needs even beyond the death of my wife last year. He is a great agent and should be commended!
I new LOW for Bankers Life - their agents are leaving messages to sell you insurance on your trash can. Name and phone number show- should I disclose that Bankers Life - That is more than annoying that is stocking for business - I would NEVER consider Bankers Life now. It wasn't even my house - it was my sisters house in another State - Losers'!!!!!!!
I am highly disappointed with Bankers Life's lack of professionalism and efficiency in reimbursing my mother for her long-term care. Despite my mother paying into her policy for over 15 years, we have consistently struggled to receive timely reimbursements. I want anyone considering Bankers Life to proceed cautiously.
Bankers Life under Washington National Insurance has one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever seen in a business. The use an offshore call center that doesn't care about customer service. They took money unnecessarily from a bank account and are resistant in returning it timely.
I was talked into getting an IRA through them years ago. It has been very difficult getting that rolled over into employer's 401k account so that i could combine my assets. Between "lost" mail, demands that i produce some obsolete form from my employer's 401k's, having to wait on the customer service line for a supervisor to "agree to accept" my call (they never did!!)..... and now these people are telling me that they will not release my funds because my signatures do not match!!! I finally had it and reported them to SEC for their review. I am utterly disgusted and will never deal with them after I finally get my funds rolled over and out of their hands.
They are the worst. Impossible to get a hold of anyone on the phone. Their policies are really lame, and have tons of fine print that basically excludes many things you would expect. Long Term care is a complete rip-off. Don't do business with this company. My father got screwed by them.
Scott Hopper at the San Luis Obispo office guided me through the thickets and brambles of reapplicaton for supplementary medical and PDP insurance. He went out of his way to set up conference calls with Medicare when insurer balked. It was a long struggle that ended satisfactorily thanks to Scott's persistence and mastery of rules and regs. I can't credit him enough for the assistance he gave me. I found his crispness and efficiency and reassuring manner refreshing.
George Esker is our agent . Does an outstanding job finding us long term planning solutions. Works hard , follows up , polite , cares about us .
Here in WA state we must have a long term care plan before Nov 1st to opt out of a new mandatory health care tax. I was working with an agent in another state since late June, early July, to get a plan going. Unbeknownst to him, the corporate office quit taking new customers under 50 back in late June. For MONTHS we were communicating, filling out paperwork, linking bank accounts, and signing off documents. He sent an extremely short email last Friday (9/17/21) saying the corporate office denied my plan. I found out through other agents that the same thing happened to them in multiple states! The big dogs decided to cut everyone off but didn't tell the little agents that their customers should go elsewhere. Unfortunately NO ONE is accepting new customers now for WA residents and I'm forced into this new tax for the rest of my life here in WA state. I literally had two other companies willing to take me back in July but I told them I was going with Bankers Life because they had the better plan. Now I have NO plan and Bankers life will not honor their agents' offer!!! Called my way up the corporate chain and no one was willing to honor what their agents had promised us. They told me these plans take loads of paperwork and weeks of labor to get people through. So why not have us pay for a year then? Obviously, there's other reasons. Wish I knew so I could share them. But something isn't right when a company does this to thousands of people! Thousands. The agents I spoke with were bummed as well. Their own family members were denied. Not cool BL.
I CONTACTED BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY ABOUT LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE I FILLED OUT THEIR FORM IN FALL OF 2018 WITH A AGENT AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK IF I WAS APPROVED I CONSULTED MY ATTORNEY AND A COMMERCIAL INSURANCE AGENT AND WAS TOLD BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY WAS IN DEEP FINANCIAL TROUBLE I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE AGENT FROM BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY THAT I WAS APPROVED---BUT I DECIDED NOY TO GO TO THE FINAL SIGNING BECAUSE OF THE BAD MEWS ABOUT BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY I FOUND OUT A FEW MONTHS LATER MONEY WAS TAKEN OUT OF MY BANK ACCOUNT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION WHEN I CONTACTED BANKERS L;IFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY ABOUT IT----THEY DENIED KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT MY WITHDRAWS
