I am a parent of the recent graduate.
My son attended Forest Trail Academy for three years - 10th, 11th and 12th grades. He enjoyed the flexibility of the asynchronous courses and being able to work at his own pace and create his own schedule. The curriculum is rigorous, especially in humanities (in particular, English, world history and government courses). One is required to do a lot of reading, research and writing which is actually good since it prepares one well for the future college workload. The teachers are knowledgeable and responsive. The diploma is recognized; my son was admitted to multiple colleges in different states and ended up going to the University of Florida. However, there are several aspects that can be improved. The web-site is slow, and on some occasions it was hard to upload assignments or even open the pages within the web-site. Some links to external sources are broken, and some courses contain information that needs to be updated with recent events in mind. Hopefully, these things will be addressed since the market for online schools is getting pretty competitive. In general, I would recommend this school to any family who is looking for an alternative to a traditional brick-and-mortar school for any reason or as a homeschool curriculum.

FTA isn't worth the money.
I think most of these reviews were written by staff or owner. This is a self pace school, which is nice depending on what you're looking for. My son was assigned a teacher, but there's no contact with her or anything. I'm the teacher. They had an issue where the systems were down and my son wasn't able to do any work for two days, the school failed to notify me. When I called to inquire about what was going on, I was met with attitude and disrespect by Ken, the admissions associate. Ken explained he was upset about the system issues as well and that's why he was yelling at me, the consumer. He apologized for his tone, but continued to address me the same disrespectful way. I still don't understand why he had the right to be mad, when I was the one being cheated out of time and money. I reported him and haven't heard anything back yet. My son has already been accepted into another school next year and I can't wait to be done with FTA. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! There are better options for online education than FTA.

Forest Trail Academy is an excellent choice for online school. The curriculum is challenging, the faculty and staff are very helpful and supportive of student success.

The overall experience of 4 years was very good. Every time I reached out for help, reply was given immediately with the perfect solution. There was a lot of independent learning with a very well devised program. I am very happy that my son was a part of forest trail academy

What a fantastic 7th grade experience
What a fantastic 7th grade experience! Similar to college, my child had to create a schedule that allowed her to accomplish her assignments and coordinate with teacher’s hours if she needed additional help. She struggled the most with math, but eventually came to realize how to take advantage of her teacher’s hours and felt her teacher was great at explaining the concepts. I thought the curriculum was appropriately challenging and the assignments led my daughter to expand her knowledge and understandings of the subjects.

I like how we can redo our assignments. It helps us evaluate and correct our mistakes. In real life we learn from our mistakes and that’s what happen and we learn more that way. Instead of getting frustrated and felt we fail, it motivates us to make it right.

Great teachers need to improve some stuff
Great teachers! Although, it would be great that children could take exams . Also, sometimes I feel teachers need to review answers especially in Math not just go by the answer key. There has been occasions were the answers from the answer key were incorrect. Maybe something to consider would be that kids online had the option to be part physically of a graduation just like a regular school. To Give that option to students online could be motivating for some students. Additionally, it would be great this platform could be used by kids in an Ipad . Kids see ipads as a fun tool to use why not take advantage of that. Thank you.

Forest Trail Academy gives students great flexibility. Our curriculum is rigorous and standards based. The school is fully accredited. In addition to traditional curriculum, students also learn time management and how to be self starters. These skills will help them in college and beyond.
