🚨TERRIBLE EMPLOYEE TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT🚨

🚨TERRIBLE EMPLOYEE TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT🚨I am writing to formally escalate the matter of my membership termination at NRG Gym Hatfield on January 27th, 2026, as I believe the decision was unfair, procedurally improper, and based on a misrepresentation of the events. On the evening in question, I was training with a friend in the dumbbell area when a staff member, Denver, approached us and asked us to re-rack weights. My friend explained we were actively using them and would put them back afterwards. I made a light-hearted comment which I immediately clarified was a joke. Denver then became agitated, raised his voice, swore, and behaved in a confrontational manner in front of multiple members. At all times, both my friend and I attempted to remain calm and de-escalate the situation.Denver invited me to “come outside,” which I agreed to solely to de-escalate. He left abruptly, returned from his vehicle visibly angry, and continued to behave in an intimidating manner. At approximately 9:06 pm, Denver was observed on the gym floor near the flat bench area speaking with two to three other members while repeatedly looking in our direction, clearly discussing us in a manner that contributed to the hostile environment.Subsequently, in the male changing room, Denver made unsolicited remarks referencing his military background, physical stature, and family members, which were inappropriate and intimidating. We disengaged and left after completing our session. At no point did I behave abusively or aggressively toward any staff member. The only instance where my voice was raised occurred at a distance and solely to alert management to the situation. I consistently attempted to de-escalate, sought assistance from staff, and acted in a manner consistent with the Terms & Conditions. The escalation and unprofessional conduct originated entirely from Denver. There were two witnesses to the staff member’s behaviour (myself and my training partner), and the incident is fully observable on CCTV. Despite this, my membership was terminated immediately without warning or investigation, and without any acknowledgment of staff provocation.Given these facts, I request a full and impartial review, including:* CCTV footage from all relevant times and locations* Witness statements, including my own and my friend’s account* Clarification of the specific conduct that NRG Gym claims constitutes a breach of the Terms & ConditionsIf this matter is not addressed appropriately and a fair review conducted, I reserve the right to pursue all available legal remedies, including a claim for defamation arising from the inaccurate statements made regarding my conduct.I request a written response outlining the outcome of this review.

Can't cancel, still taking money

Decided to leave when they took over Pumpgym in Northampton. After much back and forth with such delaying subjects as emailing me to ask what my email address is. months later I still have not received confirmation of cancellation and they're still taking money which my bank is now dealing with as a fraudulent transaction.Plenty of honest gyms to go to out there

Poor problem solving

Signed up to NRG Sheffield over summer and had a very poor experience due to staff error and consistently poor communication. My membership was mistakenly cancelled by staff while they were attempting to apply a student rate. Despite this, I continued to be charged and yet the app wouldn't let me access the GYM. I received cancellation emails and was repeatedly told conflicting information by different staff members, including being told the membership was both cancelled and “never cancelled.”Instead of properly resolving the issue, I was told I could only access the gym if staff were available to let me in, which is not the service I paid for. Requests for a refund were ignored and follow-up communication failed to address the actual problem.Overall the handling of this situation was unprofessional and extremely frustrating. I paid for a service I could not properly use and would not recommend this gym based on how this was managed. I had to push for a refund through my bank which was time consuming. Otherwise, GYM is well equipped and clean.

Cannot really fault Watford branch

Cannot really fault Watford branch. They have recently upgraded the most of the treadmills. Not really sure why people whinge about NRG. What are you really expecting for 18.95 a month? It’s a budget gym, making fitness affordable for all. Yes, it’s not palatial-again for the price point, what do you expect? The place is safe. Everybody keeps their head down, nobody bothers you and the staff approachable.Personally I think the founder has done a great thing. Nobody has paid me to write this.

Not an LGBTQ friendly or female friendly gym. Do not go!!! The management at NRG Lewisham defend their staff even though they are aggressive and prejudiced. I will never recommend this gym or frequent it ever again! Avoid!!!

Cannot cancel a membership

Impossible to have your membership cancelled. A change in circumstances has meant I can no longer attend the gym - I have been trying since July (it's now mid November) to have my membership cancelled. They never respond to an email nor have they actioned my request. Repeated emails and zero response. It amazies me how fast they were to join me up but now I can't get away from them. I have served the 12 months and now more yet I cannot cancel my membership

Can’t train comfortably …

Can’t train comfortably in the gym unless you want to be in the back of someone’s TikTok or instagram because so many people use tripods and film everything they do. Today for example, a bunch of cali people took up the entire space upstairs filming from all angles including the entrance and the squats racks, so it was almost entirely unavoidable. Some people just want to train and not have to worry about ending up on someone’s TikTok or instagram , especially the individual who films at nrg and zooms in on their faces if they look in his general direction for a split second. It shouldn’t be allowed, especially at the rate of which it’s happening.

Disappointing Cancellation Experience and Conflicting Policy Enforcement

The cancellation process with NRG Gym has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. After submitting a membership cancellation request, a staff member provided written confirmation that the final access date. This date was relied upon and aligned with a standard 30-day notice. However, the gym has since unilaterally revised the end date to another month (nearly 4 week longer), citing a new internal rule: that the 30-day notice period must commence only from the next billing cycle. This new rule is the core of the issue: the gym is attempting to enforce a procedure that is not stated or published anywhere within their official Terms and Conditions (T&C). The T&C, which is the governing contractual document, only requires a minimum of 30 days' notice—it does not mention starting from the next billing cycle. The decision-making process is flawed, as the gym is prioritising an unpublished, internal policy over their own legal T&C and a specific written confirmation previously provided to the member.

It's an ok gym far from great

It's an ok gym. Works for me as I just wanna go in, do my thing and go home however... Too many kids and their phones around, too many silly people doing their videos, which means machines are busy for longer. Equipment breaks all the time and it takes MONTHS to fix them. I don't understand it. Although you do meet some good people and the price is good. I'd rather pay more and have a better quality equipment that works. Also one more thing. Staff are rubbish. There's a good ones here and there but ultimately very average and unhelpful people.

Good gym, but too many phones.

I love this gym, at the moment there’s a revamp going on, quite a bit of the stuff is missing, but I expect it’ll be replaced soon. It’s on my doorstep and on the whole very good, I expect it’ll be excellent when the new stuff comes in, however, there is 1 MASSIVE PROBLEM, people on phones, it’s bad in there, either get off yer phone, or get off the equipment, I’ve asked people to move before, but it ain’t what you want to be doing or expecting when your going in to train. This should be nipped in the bud now. It makes a problem that shouldn’t be even on a list of problems. I’ve seen people on chest press, and bicep curls, and benches in general just sit there for 15 minutes, doom scrolling. When you go gym, you’re there to train. Not play on your phone all day. As I say, this shouldn’t even be a thing, but it is 🤦‍♂️.

Just join the gymgroup or pure instead

They make cancellation extremely difficult by putting in their term and conditions that you must sign up for a minimum of 2 months and then to cancel you have to give 30 day notice. The gym group and pure just let you cancel the direct debit and that is that. Don't, for the love of God, join NRG gyms; they just want your money. And don't be lured in by the sauna either, like i was; it is only warm and not hot enough to make you sweat, if you want a good sauna go to Nuffield or virgin

TERRIBLE GYM and MANAGEMENT

My experience at NRG Gym was beyond disappointing — it was absolutely appalling. The front desk staff were shockingly rude and acted like they were doing us a favor just by acknowledging our presence. They were aggressive and dismissive toward both me and my wife for no reason at all. The personal trainers were even worse — completely unprofessional, with zero boundaries or respect, especially towards female members. Some of their behavior bordered on harassment, which is absolutely unacceptable in any environment, let alone a gym.The facility itself is a disgrace — dirty machines, trash on the floor, broken equipment, and absolutely no sense of hygiene or upkeep. It feels like no one cares. They have the audacity to charge £20 a month for a place that doesn’t even meet basic standards of cleanliness, safety, or respect.Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. If I could give it a negative rating, I would. 0 out of 10 doesn’t even begin to describe how bad this gym is. Avoid it at all costs.

NRG Manchester Review

A good sized gym, although quite often equipment are not working and it takes months for NRG Manchester to get them fixed. Membership fees increased by ÂŁ5 this year but NRG have failed to match their charges for the value and quality of services they offer. There are a few staff here and there but you can't often find anyone around unless you walk around looking for someone, usually a PT who has clients they supporting. My wife uses the women's section and complains that it is much too small compared to the main fitness area. Users in the female only zone are often inconsiderate and waste time on their phones whilst using equipment, to the detriment of others. In the Main area, some users have the cheek to not allow me to use the cable machine when they are using another piece of equipment. I have told the Manager but he said there is nothing they can do. As a paying gym member, NRG Manchester should make it clear to users to be considerate to others.Overall, the gym is big and has many equipment hence me going there. Friendly staff and supportive and most gym users are okay. It is a little intimidating when big blokes tell you not to use a machine they not using as though they own the gym. There are 2 water fountains, yet only one is in service, the other does not work and no sign saying "out of use and will be repaired in due course" . Can the Management of NRG Manchester address this as soon as possible? It appears that the contractors and engineers they are dealing with can't be bothered to do repairs to equipment or needs chasing up. The water dispenser that is out of use has been like that for 2 years now. Please can action be taken as a matter of urgency. We are not paying to use a charity.

Very bad gym,it stinks and it is extremely dirty. The toilets are always in poor condition, aways very dirty. The water fountain (water dispenser) is disgusting—the water tastes like earth and stone. The area around the fountain is also very dirty and poorly maintained. It seems like the gym owner doesn’t care about the members or the upkeep of the facilities. Additionally, the new entrance system is unreliable; the doors often fail to open if you have low mobile signal.Overall, a terrible experience. I will be switching to another gym and will never recommend this one.

NRG Gym Situated in Gravesend is not…

NRG Gym Situated in Gravesend is not good for joining.Join this month and informed them after the first visit that I would not continue due to the Carpet in the whole gym which does not nice smell and had an allergy to carpet, also during the first visit no member of staff was available for help. They confirm that membership is cancelled as I reported within 14 days.No refund has been received yet, sent an email to them but there has been no reply yet and they took next month's payment today.Poor customer service experience, only email option is available which they respond hardly.

Bad gym, specially when it comes to communication and updates with members, on 9th December gym was closed and no email to inform and it's not first time ,is hard to send bulk emails to all members, and it's not the first time, ppl travel to come so completely waisted my time. before you could enter once in a day , now you need to scan bar code to enter, what if forget the phone at home, or your phone dies. Who's the brainer that come up with this idea. Also boxing area, lights not working, and not fixing, Aircon is off on nights, ppl come in late

Very poor staff or personnel displayManagement wasn’t any better, possible rude. Not enough space on this tiny box to even start explaining the wrongs here and that’s honestly!!They need to treat people better especially loyal members, i have been a member of this gym before the actual gym was open, so that’s over 13years, i was in the first 100 members to join this gym when it was £9.99..
