Top quality repairers

I recently had some repair work done to my motorhome at Drakes body repair shop, Shiptonthorpe. I found them to be very courteous and prompt. Their workmanship was outstanding and they even carried out some extra work, not covered on my insurance, just to make the finished product look right! Quality work by a professional company.

Misplaced £2000 of accessories

Our ford ranger went here for work after it had been involved in an accident. We were really hopeful we would receive a good service after speaking with the owner. Unfortunately this didn’t turn out to be the case. The work took far longer than Nigel stated and on receiving the invoices from the insurance company, there had been more work done than what we had agreed, work billed for that hasn’t been done, but most worrying they took off a mountain roll top cover worth nearly £2000 in order to do some paint work and have misplaced it.

£2000 worth of roll top cover went missing from our car whilst it was having work done at this garage

Extremely impressed

​I was extremely impressed by Drakes Garage and Nigel in particular. Having had a few poor experiences with large retailers, it was really pleasing to experience the personal service at Drakes. Nigel was authentic and honest and provided excellent customer service from the moment we entered the showroom (even though we turned up when he was already with another customer).Throughout the sales process, Nigel was honest and transparent and provided me with all the information required to make an informed decision. I would not hesitate to recommend Drakes and will return there in the future to purchase my future cars.

Drake’s garage - terrible service!

Drake’s garage is the worst garage I have ever had the misfortune to use! My Wife and I have a 3 year old Renault Zoe each. Both are great cars, and they are a vital part of our business, but they both have a few faults that should be covered under warranty. More than 7 weeks ago, it was arranged with Lucy Buttle that we would take a day off work and leave both cars with Drake’s for the day, for an assessment (not repair) to see if the faults are covered under the warranty. It was made clear to Lucy that we needed our cars back ASAP for work and she said that although sometimes they might need to keep a car for longer, “we always aim to have the vehicle back on the road within the same day. We would ask that the cars are dropped as early as possible, between 8am and 9”.We live about an hour away (our closest Renault dealer), so the journey there and back twice took about 4 hours. We arrived with our cars at 8:03am. At Lucy’s request, we had previously emailed across full details of all the problems for both cars (with photographs), but when we arrived, some of the problems had not been included on the job sheet, and still hadn’t been assessed when we collected the cars!Looking back at our dash cams, which activate when the car door opens, we can see that our cars sat outside untouched for most of the day! The time that the first car received any attention was 3:10pm, over 7 hours after arrival! The second car was looked at at 4:31pm, 8 hours and 28 minutes after arrival, which is strange because when we phoned at 3:45pm, Lucy told us that the engineers were "on with it", even though it hadn't moved at all from where it was left first thing in the morning! The dash cam also revealed at 4:40pm one of the engineers grinning at the reversing camera whilst "fondling" his private parts? Very professional!After the phone call with Lucy at 3:45pm, we were informed that one car had now been assessed but the other one hadn't (work actually started on it 45 minutes later!). As we needed to set off from home by 4:30pm, to get there before Drake’s closed, we reluctantly agreed that we would pick both cars up the following day and would take another day off work, costing us more money and letting our customers down last minute. Despite no more work being done on the car at all the following day (it was moved out of the garage at 8:21am), Lucy didn't phone us until 9:36am to let us know both cars were ready to collect! She said that the engineers could not assess some of the faults, as they weren't faulting when they looked at the cars. When we originally booked the cars in, we stated clearly that some of the faults were intermittent, but took photos of the problems to show that they were faulting. One of the problems was an existing one that another Renault dealer had fixed successfully (a faulty temperature sensor), but it had gone faulty again - the car thought that it was minus temperatures outside, so would not allow cool air to circulate inside the car. Lucy said that THEY couldn't do anything about that, but that we should bring the car back when it does it again!When we picked the cars up, on the second day, my Wife's car had mud all over the mats, pedals and passenger door (inside and out). The car was spotless when it was dropped off. There was also white grease left on the door mirrors! When we got home, the temperature sensor on my Wife's car was showing -17 degrees, despite it being +18 degrees outside! We decided not to drive back to Drake’s to prove to them that we weren't lying!

Disappointed with this dealership

Bought a used vehicle from Drakes which developed a fault within the first 2 weeks which now I suspect was there from the beginning i have requested the vehicle to be returned under the Short Turm Right To Reject because of having less than 30 days.The owner as rejected my claim and said they will attempt to fix it but we are worried the fault will return. The owner did offer to buy the vehicle but at a less price than i paid. I am continuing to fight against the garage and have filed a claim with my bank.I can not recommend this dealership and would beware if buying used vehicles.

2 Days To Get Part That Commonly Fails

My daughter bought a used Dacia, in June 2023, from Drakes of Shiptonthorpe. It was due a service and MOT this June (2024) so, even though she lives over 100 miles from Shiptonthorpe, she booked it into Drakes and took it in for service and MOT on Tuesday 28th May 2024. The car failed the MOT on a broken spring on the front suspension and a problem with the brake light - in the centre of the rear windscreen. Drakes said that they would have to order the replacement spring. This surprised me as Drakes are a Dacia main dealer and broken suspension springs must be a very common problem - given the state of our potholed public highways! It has taken Drakes 2 days to get the part, fit it and re-test the car - no mention on how the brake light problem was overcome! I consider this to be poor service from a main dealer and my daughter tells me that, when she collected the car, another customer was in the garage complaining about work that they had done on his car.

If I could give no stars I would.

If I could give no stars I would.Having been in an accident, my car was taken here to be repaired, the staff were friendly and helpful.Upon collecting my car I had to return to the garage within 5 minutes as my car had very little power- they had forgot to connect a pipe, they took it back straightaway and fixed it. I was driving a week later and my car overheated, I took it to my local dealership where they found damage that had been missed in the repairs following the accident. I then had to pay for the repair to be done when it should have been covered by insurance, I didn’t want to take my car back to Drakes.I emailed the garage to highlight my issues and for them to be aware in the future- no response.Would not recommend!

Great customer service

Mark Wilkinson (York branch, or near) the sales guy is genuine and friendly. Had an issue with the car within the 3 months, and he helped sort it, any cost was picked up by the garage, and paid back quickly.Good communications, clear pictures, found the information I needed. Would buy from them again.

After Sales? Only if they sold the car.........

recently had the displeasure of experiencing the after sales of this dealership.I bought a Dacia Approved Used vehicle from another Dacia dealership so expected similar after sales service from all Dacia dealerships for the vehicle. I bought the vehicle in Watford but Drakes is my local dealership so thought they would be my best option rather than dealing with a London based dealership from Yorkshire.The part that I required (locking wheel nut key) was something that I should have checked for on purchase. They of course offered to order the part but I asked about the extended warranty I had taken when purchasing the vehicle. I was expecting to be told that no warranty would cover that part being my responsibility to check however I was told that "If I had bought the car from them they would of course source the part at their cost" and the also stated "we didn't sell the car" and "I would need to contact the dealership I bought it from".Now I agree they didn't sell the car but this was a Dacia Approved Used Car so I wrongly assumed as a Dacia dealer they would offer me a level of service even if that was contacting the other dealership and seeing what could be done with the part. Ironically had they simply said that "No warranty covers that part" I would have ordered the part with them but stating that "we didn't sell the car" just makes me feel that they had no interest in after sales service on behalf of Dacia, they didn't even ask ANYTHING about the car!I have received the locking key from Watford this morning and have to say their after sales was great however everyone should be aware that my perception based on my interaction with Drakes Garage is that they only care about after sales from their dealership.The car we have currently was purchased in full by debit card but I guess that Drakes don't look at potential future business and I am glad that Drakes are a strong enough business to not require any of my future business as I can guarantee when we come to change our vehicle which will most likely be another Dacia in the next couple of years we will NOT be going to Drakes despite them being our local dealership.

Brilliant service

Brilliant service - can't fault. The whole buying experience provided by the sales department was second to none, courteous, informative and never pushy which I appreciated.
