ECtHR (European Court of Human Rights) = False Expensive Hope / Belief
The ECtHR makes the headlines for preventing terrorists, murderers, drug barons and rapists from being deported back to their home countries. But the real travesty comes with the false belief and hope that the ECtHR protects us all; it is a HUGE failure in that respect. How many times do you hear the "ECtHR" is the guarantee of putting right any injustice in your country? BS I say, and I am one of the lucky ones, I have ECtHR judgements in my favour.First, less than 10% of ECHR applications make it past the first hurdle. Fail and you will get a letter saying your application failed without any reasoning or right to appeal. If you do make it past that first stage, you will face a barrage of lengthy submissions from the country you are filing against; these will cost you a LOT OF MONEY (legal fees) to respond properly to. Even if you do win, your award is likely to be risible and without costs (so, you are likely to be out of pocket).The ECtHR is a joke for the common man / woman who has had their so called "protected" human rights abused. The ECtHR is not fit for purpose and I am in favour of the UK coming out of the ECHR so that it can all be fixed, and then reentered. BTW If you do need a good reasonable ECHR lawyer, I recommend John Cubbon (Barrister) of Guernica 37 Chambers London; a rare gem in an ocean of mediocre money first human rights lawyers.
