Proceed with Caution
Proceed with Caution: Warranty & Repair IssuesI used Homestead Garage Doors (also known as The Garage Door Company Ltd., owned by Mark Wiebe) this summer after receiving an email with a zero-dollar invoice—it looked like free maintenance, but that may have been my misunderstanding. They had repaired my garage door four years ago and verbally told me it came with a 5‑year warranty. In August 2025, they replaced worn parts and charged me $889.27 via e‑transfer. Less than a month later, loud noises began during operation, and the door eventually failed to close properly on a Tuesday.I called multiple times over three days—someone answered each time, but no technician showed up. Finally, Mark answered on Friday and said they could only come the following Wednesday. Due to the urgency, I hired another local company in Cochrane for an emergency $99.75 repair. They found an improperly installed rail from Homestead’s August repair, which caused a wheel to come off.I then discovered they billed me for torsion springs that should have been covered under the 5‑year warranty. I emailed Homestead offering to waive that charge if they reimbursed the emergency repair cost and came to inspect the noise free of charge—but received no response. Had they done so, I would have considered the matter resolved.Overview:Charged for springs under warrantyThree days of no technician response$99.75 emergency repair neededNo follow-up or resolution offeredRecommendation:Confirm warranty terms in writing, double-check parts and installation quality, and be cautious. For context, they have a 2.6/5 Trustpilot rating (75% 1-star) and a 1.2/5 on TrustedPros, with multiple complaints about pricing, quality, and misleading practices.

Don't get ripped off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These comments are solely my opinion and views:It's now one year later and I've had to have the Garage door springs replaced again. Last year, between Christmas and New Year, a spring broke on my garage door opener.Over the last year, you can hear the opener struggling more as the door opens, then, when the opener stops, the doors rolls back down a bit. At first, it wasn't much. But it was ever-increasing, which brought more concern. It's my fault for not further questioning the smaller diameter and shorter length of the springs. More than 6" per side. But I'm not a professional in this industry. The change of springs on December 27th, 2019 cost me, 2 x $219 for springs. 1 x $99 for labor and 1 x $99 for a travel charge. I was aware of the 219 dollars for springs, but I thought it was springs! Not per spring. So that's a total of $598.50 including GST.What can I say but I'm an idiot!!!Today, Action Door, who originally installed the door replaced the smaller sagging springs with the original longer heavier springs for a total cost of $298.00 including, travel, 2 springs and GST, and a half an hour lesson in spring sizing and door maintenance.I could barely get a grunt out of Mark Wiebe and his son. Yes, I'm pissed off, but more at myself for falling for this con artist.Do your research people. Don't look at the company names, do some research on the owner Mark Wiebe and his plethora of companies offering the same types of service. Also, check the Global News and CBC news spots on this.Shame on me for not looking a little further last holiday season. And, shame on me for trusting that someone that puts their name on a business stands behind their work. And to make my rant complete. If I would have left a voice mail with Action door during the holiday season, and if the installer was to come out after hours, there would have been a $50 charge. This would be a total of $348.00, not the $598.My garage door is working perfectly and has a full one-year warranty on parts and labor, and my opener was adjusted for free!!!!Do your homework people!!!Oh, and if your wondering, or, if the question comes up of why I haven't contacted the owner of Homestead Garage Doors or any of their other names..... I've lost trust, and faith in anything that they offer.

I cannot believe how awful this company…
I cannot believe how awful this company is. The quote they gave me got doubled after the work they did and they tried to tell me it was a miscommunication on MY part when it was never mentioned to me whatsoever that the price would be DOUBLE what they quoted me over the phone. The "miscommunication" was between the brother that quoted me and the other brother that came to do the work! I am left feeling hugely taken advantage of and honestly have never been treated worse by a company.

This company is terrible
This company is terrible. They charged me over $900.00 to replace the garage door motor when home depot will do it for under $400.00 and the sensors were new as well as the springs for the door. He also just threw all the garbage from the repair on my garage floor.

My door works like new!
When my garage door stopped working, I thought I needed a new opener. This company’s experts had a look and did some basic maintenance. I was skeptic at first but it worked like magic! They sure saved me a ton of money!
