Great Experience

I am visiting my family from Cambridge for Christmas. I have a 5 year old Patterdale called 'Doug' who suffers with epilepsy. Today, he had 2 seizures and I called their out of hours number at 6 o'clock this morning and spoke to the most amazing vet who advised me what to do and put my mind at rest. I had spoken to them earlier in the week and found the receptionist and vet very helpful. When I move closer to family in the New Year, I will be joining this wonderful practice. Thank you so much for helping Doug and me.

Money making with no compassion

Earlier this year my dog unfortunately passed away but things could have been different. Mead vets refused out of hours service and was not clear and concise in alternative places for treatment thus delaying life saving treatment my dog then had to be put to sleep. I emailed mead vets stating their practices was incompetent and the suffering they had caused me my wife and grandchild but their responses was amazingly devoid of any empathy , I did think about taking it further but was aware of emotion and the fact that they probably have helped many in the past but today I received a reminder to have my dog booked in for yearly vaccination after the ten-fifteen emails sent back and forth between us I do believe the practice manger Sal should have after all these made sure that my dog was no longer on there system to make sure no more pain and upset ensued. This after they said they had reviewed their practices.I wish no prolonged pain to anyone else so that’s why now I have written this review as they are just paying lip service .

I've always had excellent service and attention for all my dogs over the years. The people complaining about the costs should realise that expertise and equipment is expensive and it is like having private health treatment. Also that they can usually choose to see a particular vet unless it is an emergency. As with any health care there are no guarantees of success. They should take better care of their pets think ahead and maybe get pet insurance.

Mark is a fantastic vet

Mark is a fantastic vet. My dog's complaint was quite rare but on Mark's advice and wth medication and a boiled chicken only diet, she is now on the mend without the use of steroids. My local vet is very good but did not know what was wrong depite a scan at the practice which showed 'something' in her stomach - we thought cancer! Mark reassured us on numerous occasions that our dog did not have cancer although did have a gastric ulcer with other internal problems associated with it. Although a long journey for us, we have transferred our dog to Mark as our regular vet. His explanations were clear and we came away from him much relieved and happy.

I would avoid seeing this Vet.

Took my dog in as an emergency as she started to act unwell, i explained briefly to the lovely receptionists what was wrong, another vet passing took the time to pet my dog and was lovely to us while i was still at the reception (i feel i would have had a different experience if this vet named Kimelle had seen us) however, my dog was taken from me for approx 5 mins, i was then called in to an empty room by the head Vet Mark who after sighing slowly dramatically twice and remaining silent about my dogs wefare when i was asking if she was okay then proceded to tell me it was not good and she needed heart scan and neurological tests...no simple bloods or even asking me for details of what happened, just straight to expensive tests, Still thinking my dog was in a real bad way i asked the cost, £900 plus!, still not asking me about the events on why my dog was lethargic and even when i said that after having a pooh on way there in car, she had perked up a bit and that the last times she behaved this way was once after a bee sting and then when she ate something bad, he said this was unlikely causes and more serious conditions like heart and neuro were likely, i then felt like he tried to guilt trip me into the more expensive tests when i said i didnt have £900 and said an overnight stay was recommended, i knew then that i was being taken advantage of due to being worried and asked for my dog back, this is when he eventually he told me my dog was stable but wanted her to have a sedation!! For a dog who is lethargic and poorly, not overexcited and who he said could possibly have heart issues? I felt he was not interested in my dogs health and was behaving like a used car salesman. I was charged for the 10 minute appointment and oxygen therapy while not once being allowed in the same room has her.... I also ran water over her before leaving home to see if it would perk her up but the vet not knowing this when handing her back explained her being wet was the nurses had to washed her before taking her vitals and doing tests. But it was me who had wet her yet he felt the need to make up a story to explain her being wet. I felt my visit was untrustworthy and money orientated. On watching my dog over the next few days, she seemed to have a bad tummy and is now on the mend.

£1300 to be told nothing wrong!

£1300 to be told nothing wrong with our poor kitty. 3.5 years old and until now vibrant, sprightly, bit overweight but fit with a very healthy appetite. Loses 1kg in a month and hasn’t eaten for three days, yet there’s no issue? Maybe have a proper look or don’t charge us four figures to say all is ok.It’s lucky for Mead Veterinary Centre that my wife picked him up and paid.

PET TRAVEL CERTIFICATE WARNING

PET TRAVEL CERTIFICATE WARNINGTook our dog here in October last year for a pet travel certificate, the cost was £120Today, six months later and the same certificate prepared by the same person cost £220This was for a thirty five minute admin appointment, no medication etc. Our fault for not checking the price first you could say, I queried the 83% increase since last October, the office manager explained as less vets locally are doing the certificates and they’ve had to employ a dedicated member of staff to do this, I pointed out it’s the same person doing it as last time and why should less vets locally doing it affect the price, other than they feel they can get away with charging higher prices.I had no choice but to pay having felt totally ripped off.Driving home I felt angry that the office manager had tried to justify the price rise on a perceived monopoly, makes me wonder about the rest of their pricing structure.I checked on line and the national average is between £130-150, I phoned other vets (Sidcup, Welling, Greenhithe and West Kingstown and was quoted between £171 to £181 for exactly the same service.I would strongly suggest you shop around as despite what I was told, there are local vets doing the same job at a far cheaper price.

AVOID

I had emergency with my dog. I’ve never come across very rude people. The reception was blunt and rude. The vet was obviously having a bad day! Didn’t not even clean a open wound and give painkillers to a highly distressed dog. I had to take my dog to another vets that same night!AVOID
