Cannot file amended return unless you've used OLT to file original return
I previously used to use very manual Free File Fillable Forms. I wanted to move to better software because it doesn't support amended returns at all.OLT seemed to fit the bill!So I started an amended return for a prior year, completed it then had an issue paying the fee as it wouldn't accept my CC. I had to message support who said they were working on it.I came back a few months later to try and finish and pay, and now they've added a field saying you can't make an amended return unless you've used OLT to file the original return!!I was planning to use OLT for all my filing needs including my upcoming 2025 return too but now won't be.It's pretty silly because the amended return seems like a great onboarding mechanism for new customers like myself.

We have used OLT.com for 15 years with total satisfaction
We have used OLT.com for 15 years. WE LOVE IT! The OLT team goes the extra mile for your special needs. This means they will generate new software if you have a very arcane and unusual tax issue that is not normally encountered. The format is much easier to understand than TurboTax, which we used from 2006 to 2010, when it got to be very expensive. I feel I personally know their top administrator, since he has helped me numerous times, to solve various unusual issues due to our tax status. In brief, having had our taxes done by professionals [we had to wait and wait to get filed. Due to our modest income, we were last in line, as our accountant handled his major accounts first], and then used TurboTax [too complicated], OLT has been our choice year after year.Wonderful people, great service, amazing prices - unbeatable!!! *****. :o)

Best Online Tax Software I've Ever Used
I have used OnLine Taxes (I call it TaxOLT) since 2019. It is very easy to use, thorough, accurate and inexpensive. Your federal return is ALWAYS free and your state return is either free or just $9.95. You know that price in advance and you are not tricked into paying more. This is the best online tax preparation software that I have ever used - by far. Go to the IRS free filing site and check it out vs. the other options: - click on "Explore Free Guided Tax Software" - click on "Browse all trusted partners" - click on "TaxOLT"

Just absolutely terrible
Just absolutely terrible. So confusing. Lack of clear instructions. After 1.5 hours and no sign of the end we abandoned OLT. You truly do get what you pay for. And this site cost too much in time and stress!

I have used OLT for 3 years
I have used OLT for 3 years. I was looking for a cheap way to file electronically. OLT was the ticket! 10 bucks for fed & state, $16 if you want on-line/phone support and audit support. OLT is good if you are familiar with filing your own taxes. If you are a rookie & know nothing about filing taxes, you might be happier with something like TurboTax that has more guidance and has you answer tons of questions, but is also much more expensive. For me, I am very happy with OLT. It has my recommendation.

Quick and easy 1040, even for an expat with capital gains in multiple countries
Living in France makes a simple tax return fairly complicated, especially with capital gains on my accounts in the U.S., but it was quick and easy with OLT. Every step is clearly presented in terms that can easily be related to the original 1040 and its documentation, so there is no mystery or interpretation of cryptic "simplified" language like on other tax sites. There was never any doubt where my entries would go on the final forms, and I could easily confirm by downloading the pdf before submitting e-file. For years I've been using TaxAct, but this year, TaxAct has put up a paywall on 1099-DIV, asking $80 for e-file on a return with AGI under $2,000. TaxAct is listed by the IRS as free for profiles like mine, but TaxAct is cheating by popping up paywalls at the very end of filing. In contrast, OLT claims to be free and is actually the real free, e-file accepted by the IRS in less than one hour.

Support give blatantly incorrect information
Had issues getting the child tax credit that I am entitled to. When I first raised it with support I was given blatantly incorrect information about the tax credit, and when I corrected their info they brushed me off saying I must not be entitled to it. No response to my requests to help me figure out where the numbers are autogenerated from so I can figure out where I went wrong and correct the information.

OnLine Taxes will screw up your Oregon "kicker"
OnLine Taxes will screw up your state return if you live in Oregon. It did not calculate the Oregon surplus credit ("kicker") at all. If the OR Dept of Revenue had not caught and corrected the error, I would have lost OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS from my refund! This is the second time, in a row, that OLT has messed up my state filing. I am never using OnLine Taxes again.

Software errors will make you lose potentially thousands of dollars
I spent over an hour filling out my return with OLT using the free tier. When I got to the deductions, the software would not allow me to claim the standard deduction no matter what I did. It was telling me that I owed the IRS thousands of dollars which was completely incorrect. Customer service was not helpful and was unable to fix my problem. The software is buggy and I would not trust it with my return after a massive mistake like that.

The Lynn Greer Retirement Income Tax Cut Act
Alabama passed The Lynn Greer Retirement Income Tax Cut Act to take effect January 1, 2023. The Act exempts the first $6,000 in taxable retirement income for certain retirees. I was not sure how to handle this on my State return so I asked OnLine Taxes. They got back to me really, really fast. In fact, their tax software was set up to handle this and if I had waited until I got that far, I might have figured it out on my own but I appreciated the help.

Are you kidding me...
Are you kidding me? Nightmare! When actually trying to enter info, nothing makes sense. Little or no clear instructions. And if you do click to get clarification, kicks you out, in seriously quick time. Have to go thru entire log in stuff every kick out, says taking back to where left off, but doesn't. Forces you back to start, absolutely a pain! Lines and categories completely not in sync with actual tax forms, not same terminology whatsoever as actual forms, first time in my life i opted to file late. Had my nimbers all ready like decades before, have used tax preparer 20 yrs, of course she uses software, plugs in my numbers and pics of documents etc, text all to her every year blah blah..program plugs info in and quick stuff. This site gave no clear info, in fact U-Tube channels from everyday people gave massive better info. Waste of my time, worked on plugging in info more than 2 days. Finally said screw this not worth my stress and time. I never pay cuz small business owner near 3 decades. Should have been done in couple hours since had all my exact info i have provided couple decades. Total pain in the ass, and pretty raunchy when rather choose late file penalty than non-user friendly false claims of opposite. Worthless. Didn't provide choice of multiple days worked on taxes. Where are the clear instructions/explanations of each entry?? What a scam.

Their system failed to save 1095-A form…
Their system failed to save 1095-A form info, rendering the time spent on my return useless.

I was very happy to find a reasonable…
I was very happy to find a reasonable online tax prep service this year. I filed extensions in April with no issues, and just finished both federal and state; paid $9.95 for the State and 0 for federal, even though I was just over the income limit. I had major headaches last year with TS and I paid $74.95! The year before, with another company, TA, it was bait and switch, and at the end, paid $124.95 (negotiated down from $149.95) because I had $500 on a Schedule C. None of these companies were great with the state form, I had to know that a pension and interest on Savings bonds weren't taxable and adjust it. The directions for e-filing were very clear here at OLT. Ideally, we should have a free e-filing from the IRS. I would definitely use them next year.

SCAM - forces premium, cannot change
SCAM. I wanted the free edition. Near the end you click something and it adds the $7.95 charge for premium. You can then never change it back to free. The back button doesn't work. This is bait and switch, a 100% scam. Make sure you print before hitting the scam, so you can paper file.

Beware of $7.75 fee at end of process
As another user, Olivia, reported, when you file your return you are offered the option of filing for free or paying $7.75 for Premium. If you check "free", at the end of the process you are forced to pay $7.75 and you cannot go back and change it anywhere on their site. This is simply fraud.

Failure to File
Not clear during return prep that after entering bank account info for payment you aren't finished. On 21 April I logged into my bank account to find it hadn't paid. Went to OLT and went through another 6 or so pages and hope I finally got it filed. No message reminding me to file, no email asking if there was a problem. Just silence from OLT. I won't use them again. Now I'm going to be fined by IRS and state.

Fantastic software.
Fantastic software.Filed my federal and my state for about 16 bucks.Receiving a huge refund and saved about $150 by not using the 'big name' tax filing software.
