Volunteered twice. The paid staff are more worried about driving around in buggies, staying cool in the tents and being social with friends. The first time was organized and each obstacle had directions, a map of the race, change over times and water stations clearly marked to help competitors. Second time forgotten on the field. Other volunteers got BCAAs, actual day bags for full day volunteering but this time was really poor. Spending a whole day screaming at people not listening to you... Definitely not on one of the fun or encouraging obstacles so lesson learned and would not recommend volunteering. They said it's hard to get volunteers... Well when you put them on hard obstacles while the paid staff have a field day... Yeah you loose volunteers.
I write a Spartan because for 1 wrong, you sell me 2 extra tickets and is impossible refund my money
I would give no stars if possible. The support for this race is unwilling to cooperate. Basically, they'll take your money and run. Pun intended
As a veteran and long-time participant of over eight Spartan races, I am appalled by their practices. I paid $255 for an October event that they unilaterally rescheduled to November.This sudden change conflicts directly with my work schedule, and Spartan refuses a refund, effectively holding my funds hostage. Furthermore, the event insurance they promote is a scam, offering zero coverage for scheduling changes, proving it is entirely misleading at the point of purchase.
1 star is 1 star too many. Good event if you're running but laughably bad for spectators and volunteers. All sorts of false promises made about if you volly you get free race codes and refunds on camping but 8 months later and still nothing despite chasing their hopeless customer service many times. They say it will all be done within a time period of 90 to 180 days. Well 8 months on and still nothing. Awful don't bother.
I did a spartan race this past summer and enjoyed it. Only complaint was the confusion and lack of direction when I was getting ready to start my race. I didn’t know where to go. Otherwise, I enjoyed the experience and am signed up for another one this upcoming summer!
I purchased the Trifecta pass during the recent 2025 black friday/cyber monday "sale". What a mistake, the advertised sale was a $100 off the price, but during checkout they tacked on $24 in junk fees and another $80 when you went to register for events. Spartan has really gone down hill in recent years, between excessive junk fees, low quality finisher tees and no course innovation in years, I think the golden age of Spartan is over.
0 Stars! Terrible support, they don't even bother to help their customers. I need a medal and they don't even bother to send it to me, even though I offered to pay the shipping.I got a promise a long time ago from a customer service representative who promised to send me the medal, after a long time and I've written to them many times, another employee comes back and says they can't send it!!!How hard can it be to be nice and help me by sending that medal to me, and I even pay for the shipping BEFORE they send it to me.I have over 600km to the nearest race next year, and they can't even promise me I can get a medal if I go there to ask if they have a medal, ridiculous!!!I'll never participate in their races again!!!I was also scammed by Spartan Denmark 5 years ago. Their race in Denmark was canceled and I never got my 1,000 DKK (155USD) back.
I pay 150€ for a race and didnt get results on my account . And the assistance on the website is a bot that cant help you at all .
I have been a spartan season pass holder for several years now and this year has been the absolute worst. I signed up for my pass last nov. or dec. and now 2 weeks into October and i still do not have my season pass gear. All i hear from spartan is that they are shipping as soon as they get the items and some of the sizes are very popular. needless to say i am pissed that i spent so much money on this and have had not recieved anything close to satisfaction on this issue.
This company has the worst customer service, if you can call it that, that I have experienced in years. Buyer beware! Their tech is problematic and they have no phone number when you need help. You can only send an online request and it takes weeks to get back to you. They then insult the intelligence of you and anyone you refer to sign up when their site doesn't work. THEY OFFER NO REFUNDS even when there are issues. I certainly do not feel like spending hundreds more on gear and travel when I don't even trust that I have a working entry. Do yourself a favor and do events with one of the many other options.
We signed up in 2024 to do the DC event local to where we live and Spartan informed us after registering that they had to move it to a different weekend. Since we could no longer make it due to schedule conflict, we requested a refund. Not only did they refuse to issue one, but they made us transfer to an event in 2025 that is far away and would require that we pay hundreds more for hotel, gas, pet care, etc. to get there and stay the weekend.Flash forward to this year - I get injured and we reach back out to again say "hey things happen but this whole refund/transfer thing wouldn't be an issue if you didn't change the date on us". They still refuse to refund our money or let us transfer to another race without paying an extra $100-$200. I'm astonished at the poor customer service these guys have, especially given how popular their races and brand have become. I enjoyed the one race I've done with them, but will NEVER be doing one again after this experience.
Participated in white water WI trail race 2025. Horrible experience, started 26 minutes late, electeolye drinks had powder in them and tasted horrible, no snacks except bananas, limited staff assistance, photos for the race are $30 after already overpaying for the race?0/5 experience
Fun races but the customer service is so unforgivably bad and fills me with unquenchable rage. They are a screwed up company that lies and doesn't abide by their policies that are clearly spelled out in the checkout process. Thanks for robbing and screwing me on false pretenses in your transfer policy in checkout Spartan.
Spartan - GREAT idea, horrible execution at Austin 2025 this year. This was my first Spartan race, and I most likely won't be signing up for another one. I made some good memories with my team, but the lack of "swag" (this includes medals and shirts, some of the most basic swag at any race) and overall coordination was disappointing. Trying to get photos from the photographer was like pulling teeth since the "selfie" option on Spartan's website didn't work at all. I had to go direct to the third-party photographer, which thankfully gave me a more direct response after waiting for Spartan to respond after a full week. And even after a response with a 3-day "response time or else we'll consider it resolved," the Help team was still not helpful at all so I had to reopen another ticket. Not worth the hassle or price, IMO. Bright side: The volunteers were nice and very helpful!
My review is the same as everyone else on here. Unfortunately, their rating can’t go any lower than it already is, but I paid for a trifecta last year and broke my wrist, so I tried to get it transferred. They gave me a code a year later that expired in 72 hours. I missed the window for that, and they never sent another one. Good bye to my $300 that I paid for a ticket I never got to use. I paid again for the race this year and competed, but it will be my last since this is a scam in my book.
Last time I couldn’t race because my daughters communion landed on sameDay after I booked. They gave me a rebate to book Another race but never could make it since I broke my leg.Was recovering this last year and made it a goal to accomplish one of these so I booked a race. Unfortunately having a set back and doctor ordered me to not do it to heal properly. They still won’t give meA refund and make it impossible to switch to another race . Don’t even know if I’ll ever be able to compete again and they won’t send myMoney back. Absolute trash . I’d rather run in a neighborhood 5k that raises money for a good cause instead of corporate greed.
PAY ATTENTION TO EXTRA FEES!!! Signed up for some races and ended up paying a minimum of $45 for extra fees up to $106 of extra fees depend on the race. This race is already ridiculously expensive so just be ready to add at least another $45 if not more on top of the advertised price.
As with all the other reviews for this company, their customer service is non-existent and they simply don't respect the terms of the tickets they sell! I was supposed to run a race with a group of friends and one of us got injured beforehand. In theory, we should be able to at least participate in a future race for free, but they have simply ignored all our emails.
