Quality product (Olivia Pillow) from a refreshingly honest company
Short summary:This review comes after having used the "Olivia Pillow" for a little over 3 months now. I can strongly recommend this company, especially in terms of item quality and sustainability and would like to see others benefit from the affordability of these premium sleep essentials. The product details on their website are detailed and refreshingly honest, I have no reason to question them after I used the product. Other points to note:(1) The website at the time of writing (Oct 2020) had a problem where I could not click “my orders”.(2) Tracking for the order is somewhat limited, however the team was very quick to respond to my questions. Some Details:The ordering process was straightforward and after 8 days received news that the pillow was being made and my payment method was charged. Subsequently got the order delivered to the UK within around another 8 days – impressive considering the shipment delays around the world. Packaging was simple, a cardboard box with an integrated carry handle contained the pillow (not wrapped in any extra plastic) and a cotton drawstring bag of the same premium pillowcase fabric contained the extra latex. A sticker with handwritten name of recipient and date manufactured was also on the outside and provided a nice touch.The shredded latex used really is something else, having not felt or used this material before, it literally looks like frothed milk and you barely notice it in your hands, even if you try and squeeze an individual piece. I chose the wool covering of the “Olivia” pillow firstly as I like slightly firmer pillows and I hoped the wool would provide this, and secondly I expected it to give the interior latex some moisture resistance, I tend to run hot while I sleep so I was expecting that I may sweat more than I realize and the wool gave me that extra piece of mind.What I first would note is that the pillow is constructed of: an inner separate smaller zipped pillow with the latex, a loose outer layer of wool and finally the outer pillowcase. I personally was worried that the loose wool would get lumpy or get uneven with time, and a simple thick knit weave would have been more appreciated by me, but I have not seen any indication of the wool aging unfavourably with my use so far. The zipper hardware feels of excellent quality, it is not the self-sealing kind so you can still feel the zip and the metallic zipper pull, it would be great if the pull tab was some kind of fabric and had a little pouch it zipped in to, but I did not notice it once inside a pillowcase.Using the pillow, I noticed that I had different sized pillowcases that made the pillow have different firmness, the latex likes to spread evenly in the pillow until it is basically flat if the pillow case is too large for the filling. My solution was to use the smallest pillowcase I own, then adjust the filling to my preference and finally put one of my larger pillowcases over that I would swap and wash as required. The shredded latex had a non-offending but definitely noticeable smell. By week 3 of using the pillow it was no longer noticeable, previously it was noticeable once I lay may head on the pillow, it did not cause any headaches and quickly faded away.Once you sleep on the pillow you really do appreciate the softness yet inner firmness of the pillow – I had thought I would need to use the extra latex provided as I tend to prefer a taller yet dense pillow, but found the provided filling perfectly comfortable, undoubtedly due to the properties of latex.Would strongly recommend you give both this product and this company a try !
