My fantasy novel has three magic systems, two calendars, and a constructed language with actual grammar rules. Most editors would have sent me a politely worded "please simplify this" note. Mine sent back twelve pages of engaged questions and suggestions that made the world deeper not smaller. Found my people.
On book six with them now. The consistency is unreal. Same quality, same professionalism, same editor who genuinely gets my writing by this point. Switching publishers at this stage would feel like breaking up with someone who just gets you.
