Want to Feel STUPID?

Bought two policies and made a couple of claims. One for wheel bearings and yesterday for the electronic trunk latch. In both cases, the amount covered was significantly lower than the cost of repair. It was $537 for the trunk latch at the dealer after all the labor and tax; I'm in Western, PA and the labor rate isn't like a big city! Carchex contracted coverage only covered about $240 with a $100 deductible. So the repair cost me $400. The experience with the wheel bearings very similar. It appears they undercut the actual labor cost and search the planet for the cheapest possible part (even if a dealership won't install it because of quality/Warranty issues). I wouldn't at all be surprised if they found a trunk latch at 'Jamal's Rebuilt Parts' in Baghdad, Iraq, and used that price to pay the claim.Want to feel like an IDIOT? Buy a Carchex policy. I did because it was so highly recommended by "The Car Guys" on NPR... BUY YOUR POLICY ELSEWHERE!

They'll harass during family emergencies

They'll harass you with phone calls while you're having family emergencies. I reached out online, for a quote to see what their prices were. After receiving the first call, I told the rep I'd call them back, my fiancée was just rushed to the hospital. They kept asking what time to call me, even though I said I'd call them back when I could. Over the few days at the hospital, they proceeded to call me a total of eleven times. It's safe to say, I will not be doing business with carchex.

CarChex: It is more like a scam

It is more like a scam. They say a covered repair will cost me the deductible only. Far from it. They advised me to take it to their recommended mechanic. They also arranged for a tow.- The tow service ripped my front bumper (Mercedes SL500). Now CarChex says they will not cover it but I have to deal with THEIR tow service- The mechanic THAT THEY GAVE ME rates are higher than CharChex is willing to pay so I have to add the difference-The mechanic had the starter motor, but CarChex insisted they must ship the part to them because their cost was too much. But because then shipping took 5 days the mechanic charge ME $40/day or $200 storage.- no one i was able to speak to at CarChex could do anything to help even though they agreed that I was harmed-CarChex uses two other firms to provide their service so getting a responsible person from CarChex is impossible. each firm forwards me to the other with no one being able to help.-The mechanic that they recommended told me they always have problems with CarChexLiterally CarChex is the worse firm I have ever dealt with. Even their employees appear frustrated. Stay away from CarChex or you will regret it.

Horrible customer service

Terrible customer service beginning 5 minutes after you hang up from purchasing the warranty. Cannot talk to anyone concerning warranting or desire to cancel. Not rated with BBB. A total scam

Carchex/Royal Administration Services

Company Name: Carchex (Broker) & Royal Administration Services (Administrator) Plan Name: Centennial Plan Contract #: C02009279 Claim Date: October 14, 2025I purchased an extended auto warranty policy from Carchex on January 23, 2023, for $5,353.00, for my 2012 Mini Cooper. The purchase was based on a high-pressure pitch promising Carchex acts as a "consumer advocate," with a "Customer Experience Above All" brand promise. When the inevitable happened—On October 11, 2025, my Fuel pump failed, costing an estimated $1,668.05 to replace/repair—Royal Administration Services immediately denied full payment of the claim. They offered to pay only $151.80 for the replacement/repair ($70.95 for the fuel pump and $80.85 for labor).Contractual Ambiguity Leading to Underpayment of ClaimThe denial is based on Royal Administration's refusal to cover the customary retail markup on the parts and labor, claiming they only pay wholesale prices. The warranty contract, however, contains no specific language excluding standard retail markups or repair facility pricing. The document only states it "covers only the components/parts listed." , or “Reasonable Costs.” Under established contract law principles (contra proferentem), any omission or ambiguity in a contract must be interpreted against the drafter (Royal Administration Services) and in favor of the policyholder. Therefore, Royal Administration is obligated to cover the full, reasonable retail cost, including standard markups, as they did not explicitly exclude these costs in their contract.Impact and Customer Service ExperienceSince filing the claim, my experience has been a cycle of deflection:• Deflection of Responsibility: When I contacted Carchex (the broker), I was immediately told they have "no involvement" in any decisions made by Royal Administration.• Scripted Responses: Royal Administration representatives only recite the standard “per your contract” script, and even a letter from their Legal Department provided the same non-answer.• Financial Damage: This deceptive structure has left me with an outstanding repair bill of $1,516.25 despite paying $758.08.00 into a policy that offers no real protection.Desired Resolution (Call to Action)I have already canceled this policy, but the refund process is also deceptive: I only received a $982.70 check from Carchex, despite Royal Administration Services' legal department stating I was owed $2,230.12.I demand the following to rectify this situation:1. Release of Sales Call Recording: Provide a copy of the original sales phone call from January 23, 2023. I want to hear the salesperson explain that they were only going to cover wholesale costs and exclude the customary retail markups charged by every repair facility.2. Full Policy Refund: Issue a full and immediate refund of the original $4758.08, or $3775.38 ($982.70 difference), or finally $1247.42 ($982.70 difference that RA stated) policy premium, as the contract is demonstrably deceptive.3. Rental Reimbursement: Provide full reimbursement for the rental vehicle expenses incurred due to this claim, totaling $1,655.00.Furthermore, I challenge Carchex’s misleading claim of being an A+ accredited business with the Better Business Bureau (BBB)—they are not accredited and currently hold a 1.69/5-star customer rating, which explains this predatory behavior.I have already advised the State’s Attorney’s office and the Better Business Bureau, and I am publicly informing all review sites about this deceptive practice.

Bad Customer Service at Carchex - Miss leading sales policies

Very Rude Customer Service at Carchex. They refuse to share my conversation they recorded with the salesperson of a "Gold Contract" which is not posted on their website anymore. At the time of purchasing the contract I was told that the Eletronic's and GPS were to be covered under this "Gold"policy". Carchecx will only send a sample contract within there welcome package and not the actual policy. Secondly be ware that they are just brokers for other companies "Alligance" and they have there own rules and regulation on cost of parts- They will fight you tooth and nail to deny a claim

Their plans cover no nothing

1. My husband got me this plan and they would not let me get service without his approval and would not let him put my name on the plan so when I needed help I could not get it not even a tow.2. we pay all this many and for a water pump I still paid 3000.00 out of pocket because they don't pay for labor, they don't pay for seals, gasket or nut and bolts, so what am I paying for. I had been paying this policy for 3 years and I got nothing. Now I need a Knock sensor and was in a place I could not wait hours and hours for an approval and guess what I get no reimbursement. I would have been stuck in the middle of know where over night by myself because the garage would be closing and we had not heard back from them, Carchex is a big waste of money

False appetite will never recommend anybody else.

I am very unsatisfied with this company. I had my policy ever since 2015. Never use the policy for anything but just pay my coverage every month so last month I called them about my vehicle. I need to get a tow truck to have it towed to the shop. It was still move, but it will cut off on me every time I drive so they call tow truck companies every time they called one it was like 2 to 3 counties over from me so they will tell me that it would be $400 for them to tow my car from my home less than 10 minutes from the shop it will be $400 I told him let’s get someone closer in my town. so I got tired of them waiting and dragging their feet to help me get a tow truck so I took a chance driving the car to the shop less than 10 minutes from my house so it sit there at the shop for three weeks until they can come and look at it and let the company know what to do. They had to nerve to call me and tell me since I drove my car to the shop they was only going to pay $3000. I have to pay the other $6000. What was the purpose of me paying for a warranty that I never use and cannot use they was not going to reimburse me my money off $400 of it and I know that wasn’t. I have a friend that has a # Warranty with him. She had her car towed there to the shop and they did not reimburse her her money for her tow company so I think it’s wrong for them to scam people like that when you call them it will say car shield who is using car mine is car check so basically you telling people that your company is a scam you’re using car shield as a cover-up. So I guess I paid for a warranty that I cannot use hair just want to ever since 2014 and here it is 2025 so like I said, I never use it to have anything repair on my car so they not gonna fix my car just because I drove it less than 10 minutes to the shop from my house if it was sitting beside the road in front of the shop I guess they would not be going to pay for it either because I moved it from the side of the road to the shop parking lot. but two days ago you guys had the nerve to call me about a payment, but like I said, I’m not paying for anything else until you fix my car.

I spent $2,500 on this crappy warranty…

I spent $2,500 on this crappy warranty and 3 years later I find my transmission is going out. Carchex refused to pay to replace because I have a "dual clutch system." What in the hell does that matter? The CSR said somebody "should've explained that" to me, like a sales rep I talked to for 45 minutes was actually going to do that. All they want is the commission and your money while not paying for anything. Total ripoff

scammers/ spam

I put in some information for an 'instant quote', they didn't give a quote at all. They sold my number to a spam call center and now I'm getting 15 calls per day from different numbers. I won't be buying a warranty from anyone thanks to these idiots. I'm not buying a newer vehicle either. I'll keep my old reliable junk and be happy

Too hostile and unprofessional too work with.

Couldn’t even get a price quote or explanation of services. “Abram”, was too uncouth, unprofessional and hostile to work with. He didn’t really seem properly socialized and was preoccupied with homophobicly taunting me. Which carchex will lie about.

Scam disguised as a company

This company is no different than any other of the scam businesses implemented to take in money without actually paying anything out. Customer service bucks, and they have no online method of servicing your account. They nickle and dime everything, and when they're not doing that, they're denying claims completely. Run, don't walk from beginning a contract with these bozos. You're better off with a personal savings account that you religiously add to monthly, then giving it to these scumbags.

Carchex is a Scam – Don’t Fall for Their Trap!

I purchased a Powertrain Gold warranty (Contract #: CHXM5269906) through Carchex, expecting reliable coverage. However, when I needed to file a claim, American Auto Shield (AAS), the administrator they assigned, wrongfully denied my valid claim based on incorrect service records that were later corrected by CARFAX and the repair facility. When I reached out to Carchex, they refused to take any responsibility, claiming they are “just the seller.” They market their warranties as peace of mind protection, but when it matters, they do nothing to support their customers. This is a fraudulent business practice—selling policies with zero accountability. Do NOT waste your money on Carchex! They will take your payment and leave you stranded when you actually need the coverage. Avoid this company at all costs!

recommended

Recommended. The process of claim can sometimes slow down the repairs so do plan on the possibility of an extra day or two of being without your vehicle, error on the side of getting the rental car option if you cannot live without transportation during the fixes. However with that being said there is tremendous upside and value to what they offer. I don't live a luxurious lifestyle, my truck is on the fleet scale of luxury but it is a tool. Repair costs can be crippling. Knowing that there is a great chance that my repairs are covered through my warranty has been a blessing. I am on my second claim with them and the sigh of relief when my claims are approved is something to speak of.

Worthless Bait and Switch

I purchased a "Titanium Plus" warranty in July of 2021 to cover my wife's low-mileage 2014 Chevy Tahoe that we bought new. I made a one time payment of $2,678 for the warranty. Carchex assigned me to "American Auto Shield". December 2024 (well within the 60 month time period) My wife was experiencing a lack of heat in the cabin. We took it to our Chevy dealer which purchased the vehicle from and which we have done business with for centuries and gave them the warranty information. I then get a call from our mechanic telling me we need to have the radiator replaced and that they will run it through the warranty. I then get a call from American Auto Shield Representative telling me they WOULD NOT cover a majority of the cost for replacement of the radiator. He said they did not cover the cost of putting the Tahoe on a lift and the visual inspection needed to discover the cause of the problem. BULL Sh#t- how was the mechanic supposed to find the problem? He also claimed the part number for the radiator the mechanic ordered was not the right part number, claiming the part ordered had some type of dealership insignia. WRONG and a lie. There is only ONE GM part number for a radiator for a 2014 Chey Taho (I worked for GM and know this). A complete waste of money for this warranty. I paid for the repair myself and I never use or recommend Carchex for anything again.

Find that CarChex is the best of a squirrely bunch - they truly value customer experience

Find that CarChex is the best of coverage. Staff is great - I knew I had an uncovered event (rear view mirror came off) but I called to confirm and as I am away from home for two weeks asked for a recommendation for getting the repair done. The lady that helped emailed me five local shops. I have had a few claims (minor issues such as amount of time different between my shop and the adjuster, but all in all fair coverage. I hope never to use it but the peace of mind if I have a major issue lets me sleep at night. Not looking for a bargain, just fair coverage (plus the benefit of pooling risk, with the hope of never going into that pool). What I love (confirmed by call today) is that the staff is fantastic - and customer experience is their key focus
