Update 1.30.25 - Ok I have to admit - I was skeptical when I posted this originally. Then a high level person within GTLIC reached out to make it right. She said she wanted to validate my claim and fix it. Within a day or two she had her people on the line, cutting the check and giving us some options on our policy. She was more than professional and fair and made me want to re-establish my relationship with GTLIC, which we did. They turned a tough situation into a happy and grateful customer. *** Watch out for the fine print. My experience with GTLIC – I signed up for their Hospitalization Insurance. I had the policy in effect on Jan 1, and since it seemed like a good company (no problems) on July 1st I expanded the policy with an additional rider. I had surgery in August and I thought we were in good shape. GTLIC is reputable - right? Wrong in my opinion, I filed a claim and they lost it – didn’t contact me – 30 days later I called them, oh sorry we lost the claim…. Then I refiled it and kept after them as 50 days had passed since the original submission. They said I had a pre-existing condition in March and April – I let them know (with my broker) that, that was not true, that the policy was in effect as of Jan 1. They said that did not count, as I upgraded my policy and I had to live with the date of July 1st as they issued a new policy number which made the visit in March and April a pre-existing condition.... They denied my claim. Turns out many people have had these same issues dealing with them. I am going to let anyone who wants to know what they did and how they did it. That they did not honor my claim. But certainly honored taking my money. In my case they took my premiums and paid out nothing. I am happy to discuss my experience with anyone who asks. *** Update 1.23 - The person responsible for Customer Service and I had a great set of conversations as she indicated she would like to resolve the situation and has taken great strides to do so. We have a plan and it should be complete next week. I feel comfortable it will all work out and they are committed to make it right. That is the sign of a very good company. Will update again upon completion next week.
