MetLife Pet insurance is Horrible!!!

I have had MetLife pet insurance for almost a year and I have yet to receive a dime from them. It is always something. They need additional information. The app isn’t working. Not able to upload my documents. The network is down….blah, blah, blah….oh now we closed your claim. Now after dealing with all this 10 months after I left my nationwide pet policy they are asking me for a declarations page from Nationwide. Why wasn’t this handled when I signed up for the MetLife Policy. I asked if they needed anything else from me. Also my claims have been open for months, than they will send an email and close the claim within 5 days if you don’t supply whatever additional documents they need. So I am suppose to check my email everyday? This is a scam. I am not even making a claim for anything major. Literally a vet visit/vaccination. I can’t imagine dealing with them when there is actually an emergency. I know so many people that have Lemonade pet insurance and love it! No problems. Btw…I never write reviews. Good or bad. This is how horrible this pet insurance is.

I have been a customer of Petlife

I have been a customer of Petlife, now Metlife Ins. for over 7 years and the claim service is horrible. They just lost my mailed in claim papers. The claim was for the same and only medication for my dog. I had kept a copy, but the receipt hid the line for Apoquel. I explained this when I sent it to them, but it didn't matter that the claim was the same for 7 years. They keep raising the cost of the policy, however they service is the worst everI can't go to another company as this would be a pre existing condition or I would have left years ago.

Awful company.

I chose PetFirst (MetLife) pet insurance as it is offered through my employer. The plan went into effect in November 2020. My dog developed diabetes and was hospitalized for diabetic ketoacidosis in February 2021. She had no symptoms of diabetes prior to the policy taking effect. My claim for her medical care was denied as a pre-existing condition because she has had polyuria and polydipsia in the past, though her vet records state that these were RESOLVED in 2018. PetFirst FINALLY paid my claim in 2021 after much stress.PetFirst is now refusing to pay for medications and supplies that my dog needs as a direct result of her hospitalization in 2021. They first claimed that they needed medical records that they already had, then they denied the claim, and said to look online for more information. The only information in their online portal stated that the claims were denied and that one of them was a pre-existing condition. I am now likely going to have to wait for a letter to come in the mail that details further why my claims were denied. What is the point of having pet insurance if you have to spend significant time fighting with them to cover medications, supplies, and treatments? I seriously regret choosing PetFirst, but I am now stuck with them due to my dog’s pre-existing conditions. They should be ashamed of themselves for the way they conduct business.

Wish I saw these reviews years ago

when I signed up for insurance for my dog. The insurance goes way up as your dog gets older. I was insured with them several years and easily paid $4000+ in premiums.I NEVER had a single claim. Then, Chance got Cancer, there was nothing they could do. We did the basic test, euthanasia and buriel and they denied his last exam and sonogram (a whopping $170). It took 4 weeks to process the claim. Out of my total, lifetime claim of $550...I am getting $195. Never ever again and I will tell anyone that listens.

Affordable care for your Pets

This is a revision to my original posting. I've used PetFirst for years. I have 2 pets insured by Metlife. During the course of this time, one of my pets needed her leg operated on. Within two weeks, with my deductible subtracted, I did in fact receive the 90% reimbursement as stated in my policy. Later, I did have a billing mishap by their company, but was called and after conversing, it was rectified in a positive manner. The only thing I'd like to see improved at this stage is more understanding on dental coverage by accident in writing. I found the customer service to be pleasant on the phone after the email, not so much on the original email. But it evened out. This is one of the most affordable coverages available online, and they have paid for instances stated on the accident/injury policy in a timely manner.

Do NOT pay for this insurance

Do NOT pay for this insurance! Go with the cheaper, AKC insurance which covers substantially more, has far less exclusions, and has shorter waiting periods. One example (of many I could provide): I am in the process of switching to AKC insurance and submitted bills for my puppies to both insurance companies because both are currently active on my puppies - PetFirst denied 80% of what I submitted while AKC approved 100% of what I submitted! If I could give PetFirst zero stars, I would! Then there's the fact that in "PART IX - APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS" of the policy packet contact information including an e-mail address is provided (SubmitClaim at petfirst.com) and that all appeals "must be submitted...within 90 days" of the date on the explanation of benefits (or as soon as reasonably practicable) and "You may contact us using the information above." Well guess what happens when you e-mail that e-mail address in order to begin the appeals process? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So I call a couple weeks later and I'm told (1) I had to file an appeal within 30 days and I'm now over the deadline; (2) there's a specific appeal form that must be used (not referenced anywhere in the policy packet); and, (3) that e-mail address is not a monitored e-mail address but simply goes to a queue for claims submissions...needless to say I was absolutely ticked. Ultimately, they did accept my appeal, though that was denied (no surprise there).

PetFirst is the best!

I've had Petfirst for several years even before it became part of MetLife and they have always had the best rates, customer service, and ease of claims. I adopted my dog 10 years ago and they saved me on any expensive procedures and also covered him at the end of his life. I have nothing but good things to say about them and definitely worth it! 5 stars

Canceled my policy with PetFirst…

I just canceled my policy with PetFirst (MetLife). After one year of coverage they automatically increased my monthly rate by nearly 40%! That's an insane increase, and that's with no covered claims!I asked the customer service person if that policy was reflected in my contract and she said, "no, we just automatically increase the price every year at renewal because your dog is older." What? So in essence after the first year they can charge you whatever they want every year and we as customers have no say. I said bye. These are questionable practices at best and I'm hoping I can find another pet insurance company who will conduct themselves in a more reputable and honest way. Buyer beware.

This is a review for all the…

This is a review for all the reviewer's!!!!! I would like to thank all the reviewers for their honest reviews which has help me decide to eliminate this Pet Insurance company off of my shopping list. As all good reviews cannot be good, so can all bad reviews. But wow, so many bad reviews can't all be wrong!!

Fraudulent credit card charges

So disgusted by this company. They illegally charged my credit card $68 per month without my permission. I did not receive any bills in the mail. I did not receive any information from the company by email. I went without noticing the charge for almost a full year because it wasn’t something I would expect and I didn’t notice it (it basically slipped through the cracks). I searched all of my emails to try to find any emails from the company and I didn’t have anything except one email from Wells Fargo mentioning a fraudulent charge which I overlooked at the time (it was included in a list of other charges that weren’t fraud including one I was currently trying to make at the time — so it was easy to miss). I have never done business with this company and was so surprised to find this reoccurring charge made on my card for almost 9 months straight. I was only reimbursed $200 from Wells Fargo who stated they determined there was absolutely an issue with the charge but they could only reimburse me for the last 60 days. You charged me from June 2020 until February 2021! I not only lost over $600 ($400 after being reimbursed from my bank) but also had to go through the hassle of being issued a new debit card which impacted all of my ACTUAL autopay bill accounts with other merchants. Wells Fargo stated they fought on my behalf but were not successful in getting the money returned from this merchant. I reached out to this merchant by contact form on their official website politely notifying them of a reoccurring charge from their company and asking to help me pull up “my account” by my email and phone number (to prove I was actually a customer) and I received NO RESPONSE. How odd is that? Wells Fargo stated I can only at this point speak to the merchant in order to receive my funds back. I don’t ever see that happening. So disappointed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FRAUD. I can only imagine how they treat their ACTUAL customers. Why take money during COVID?

AWFUL

I couldn't give 0 stars and still post a review but PetFirst has been absolutely horrific about paying a claim. I have sent documents repeatedly (I have an email showing at least one that they claim they never got.). I have called several times. I have asked for supervisors. Both of my vets have called several times each only to be told each time they had never called before. Find a better company. I'm not sure you could do worse.

Stay away from this one

Stay away from this one, if you're inclined to find pet insurance. They are the worst. You can submit a claim and they will try to challenge you, every step. They make you go back and keep bugging your vet for more notes, lie about coverage and then won't tell you one way or another what is or isn't covered. It's a crap shoot. If we weren't wrangled into this company, instead of the one my husband's employer used to have, I wouldn't even keep them. They are too lazy to look at the 12 month's worth of notes they demanded and then try to tell you that they have no idea if the claim is a regular procedure or actually related to the illness. It's so unbelievable

Automatically increased our policy coverage and price - no refund

Automatically changed our policy from illness to illness + injury, bumping price from $35 to $92/ mo. They apparently sent us an email 2 months prior, but no other notifications. Refused to refund the difference, how is this even legal? What if they had signed us up for a policy costing $2000 / mo?

Over 100% increase of rate without notice

They increased my policy from $44 to over $100 without notice. In the middle of a pandemic with job crisis. And after years of not paying claims with 100 excuses. No comments,.

i was a petfirst customer for 8 years

i was a petfirst customer for 8 years, i paid my monthly premium 58$ a month, last month i was automatically renewed and been charged 133$. They never called me to confirm or ask for permission to charge my card for that amount. I called customer service and they not gave me any other option besides to rase my deductible and then my monthly would go lower, so that didn’t make any sense, now i went online and i see more options that i wasn’t offered but i already cancelled my insurance which mean if i will reopen again, i have another waiting time period. Agents not trained to keep clients in by offering more options, they are not really interested to keep you as a client even if you paid them for 8 years and never used insurance even once. Now i feel bad that i cancelled insurance for my pet.

Pet First is absolutely terrible

Pet First is absolutely terrible. I have had to talk to 5 different people because their communication within their office is poor. I explained it 5 times that I rescued my dog from a woman whose husband was abusive so there are no adoption paperwork. Stevie (my German Shepard) had to have surgery to get something removed to make sure that it wasn't cancer and they STILL have not helped pay this bill. I just got a "denied," email. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING INSURANCE!

You get for what you pay for

You get for what you pay for. From the beginning of the policy I was misinformed when I was quoted. When my dog was injured submitting my claim was a nightmare. Routine wellness visit states covers up to $250 after I submitted the claim for $211.00 and I get an explanation of benefits stating check was enclosed and I am only getting reimbursed $94 of $250 and check was not even in the envelope. Worst Insurance EVER.On top of my monthly insurance payment I'm stuck covering over $1500 in vet payment.

Just noticed a $53 charge on my card…

Just noticed a $53 charge on my card for this pet insurance. It was offered one month free when we adopted a puppy months ago. It didn’t say we’d automatically get charged $50 a month after that. Never agreed to anything or spoke to anyone, just auto charged. Not even sure how they got my credit card info unless the humane society gave it to them..........
