Concerning Billing & Business Practices
High-priced bike insurance I paid for several years without making any claims, decided it was no longer needed so I cancelled my policy. Issues: 1. They don't provide a dashboard for use in reviewing coverage, making premium payments or any of the tasks most of us are used to being able to perform on a vendor site; 2. They don't send invoices or notices ahead of paying themselves via auto-debit--ever. When I still had a policy, I had to repeatedly email a request for an invoice. Who operates that way?; 3. They debited my bank account without an Invoices or notice, after I'd cancelled my policy more than a year prior and revoked PayPal authorization. They just reached into my bank account and snatched nearly $800. And it took two days for them to unapologetically respond to my numerous emails with "old billing system." Not acceptable! Any company that debits consumers' bank accounts without warning or invoice IMO should be considered questionable. They said they were refunding the amount taken and I noted a Pending credit that evening, but the refund takes 3-5 business days. They did send several emails asking me to take down my Google review, though. What kind of company does this??; 4. Lack of transparency. Try to find out who owns this company by searching online. I couldn't. They are underwritten by Markel American, which also has communication, billing and overcharge complaints (see BBB). Their reviews on WalletHub and other sites also poor. I guess I'm lucky I never had a claim because their claim reviews on Clearsurance are also abysmal.
