Love this cinema! I don’t live too local but it this is now the only cinema I visit. The staff are lovely, the arcade is fun, parking is free and the screens are always clean. Would recommend!
I'm complete film junkie seeing well over a hundred movies a year, and The Light Stockport has to be my favourite cinema ever. It's mainly the programming that does it with all the bog box office multiplex fare you'd expect but a good smattering of indie cinema and lots of curated seasons and retrospectives and classic films too. But aside from the programming what we all love about the Light Stockport are the super friendly staff, who will stop the chat about the movies and seem to really care about the place and the community it has spawned. I love that you can take drinks and food in, and the cherry on the cake is the monthly film quiz on the last Tuesday of every month which is a complete joy run by the round enthusiastic staff... even though we always come in the bottom three. I was prompted to write this after having an absolute blast at the special pre-Christmas Quiz. This is what cinema should be... more than just a place that shows movies.
Sharon on the bar was exceptional! That’s how customer service is done.
Screen 1... 3 problems:Air conditioning is broken, it's absolutely bloody freezing in there (there is a note aplogising for this on the door as you go in).Couple of speakers are faulty, and they've got the bass cranked up way too high... There's a sub at front and centre that has blown. Every time the volume ramps up, it starts making a very obvious farting sound. So it was pretty much like sitting in a room with an extremely flatulent elephant, going off every minute...Another one of the speakers behind and to the left sounds like it's got a bad connection, crackling like someone's playing with a headphone jack.Picture quality wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. Pixelated and grainy, with occasional compression artefacts; like it was being streamed over wifi to one of those cheap projectors you can get on Amazon for about fifty quid. I'd guess it was 1080p, which was fine... 15 years ago... My phone has better resolution these days...Doesn't help that the movie (Wolf Man) was mostly duller than dishwater... If you've seen the trailer, you've seen about 95% of what's worth watching. I can't blame the cinema for that though.£50 to waste a couple of hours being cold and bored... At least the chairs are comfy and the staff were friendly!
My partner intended to book tickets for a future showing of a film but accidentally booked them for the day she was online to make the booking. We spotted this issue (albeit after the booking) and went on to live chat to ask for the booking to be moved to the correct day as it was clear we had not attended. I was dealt with very bluntly - bordering on rudely - by Veronica who point blank refused and simply kept quoting 'it's our policy'. I get that it is, but what loss has The Light suffered? This is simply an error, they can see the tickets were not redeemed, so what's the issue? I love the place, it's brilliant, and the service at the venue has always been excellent. This has been completely undermined by the online support team and as a family of 5 who visits at least 6 times a year (do the maths when we spend at least £100 each time on tickets and sundries), we shall not be going back to a company so non-customer centric in their Customer Service approach centrally. All it would take is a 'no worries, as a goodwill gesture we'll move the booking'. Is that so hard?
It's not the cinema I live closest to but I love The Light. The seating is so comfortable, the staff are always friendly and welcoming and the coffee is gorgeous. I love the welcome given by the ushers before the films begin. Probably an awkward thing for them to do but I always appreciate it.
The best cinema
Amazing cinema! Big, comfy reclining chairs. Staggered seating. Table. Can take a beer in. What more could you want! Stockport definitely needed this!
