5-Star Review for Sylvan Learning Center – Pembroke Pines
I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Sylvan Learning Center in Pembroke Pines. My grandson was significantly behind in school—testing below kindergarten level—even as he was nearing the end of 1st grade. We had tried several options before discovering Sylvan, including school-based tutoring through Dojo and after-school tutoring help led by high school students. Unfortunately, those didn’t make much of a difference. Then we found Sylvan—and what a difference it has made! In just 60 hours(2hours a day, 4days a week and in less then 2months) of instruction, my grandson has progressed to a beginning 1st grade level. That’s a huge leap in such a short time, and it’s thanks to the structured, professional, and engaging approach the tutors at Sylvan provide. What touches me most is how excited he is after every session. He comes out beaming, proud to share what he’s learned, and eager to go back. His confidence has improved not only academically but in his overall demeanor at school. He now walks into class with more confidence, participating more, and showing pride in his progress.Sylvan has been a blessing for our family, and I highly recommend it to any parent or grandparent whose child needs that extra support to thrive.

Dont bother with these people if your child is dyslexic
We enrolled our dyslexic 14 yr old son over the summer before going into the 9th grade with the lafayette, La sylvan learning center. We started out with an interview with the person who was in charge of the enrollments. Her name was Kristy. She assured us that all of their tutors were experienced with dyslexic students. She also assured us that if our son qualified for a grant at a later time that we would be able to apply it towards the balance we would owe on his current tuition. We signed a contract to make payments through a third party loan company. The tuition was $3,000.00 for 12 hrs of tutoring. He had his 12 hrs of tutoring over the summer before starting 9th grade. Our son did not learn one thing with these people. All of the tutors are not qualified to teach dyslexic students and the one that they did have was rarely available for our son on the days that he went. We were still obligated to pay the $3,000 because we signed a contract with them. We found out at the end of the summer that he qualified for a $1,500 grant so we tried to put it towards the $3,000 that we owed and they then told us that that wasn't allowed that we could only apply it to future tutoring sessions. So she basically lied through her teeth to us in the initial interview to get us to sign the contract. I guess I should have been more careful when signing the contract. I should have made sure that it had what she told us in writing, because we are now stuck with a $3,000 debt to this third party company for tutoring that did not help our son in the least bit. Then to put the icing on the cake, we tried to use the grant to sign him up for future sessions and were turned down by Kristy. Sylvan may be great for an average student but if your student is dyslexic, please take this review to heart. don't bother wasting your time or your money with these people. They are liars and crooks!!!! If they make any promises to you, make sure they are listed in the contract because they WILL go back on their words.

Great tutoring, so-so website
My child benefitted a lot from online 1:1 tutoring in reading with a Sylvan tutor. The tutor was very caring and attentive. I found the Sylvan website interface fairly hard to deal with, in terms of scheduling and so on. The search feature to find a tutor looked promising but turned out to be hard to use. That’s why I rated 4 stars, not 5 stars.

Absolutely the worst experience
Absolutely the worst experience. Especially after unleashed brands took over. Stay away from them. Especially in Albuquerque.

I love the teaching and learning
I love the teaching and learning. All of the teachers are very nice and take time to work with students individuallyThey also help kids learn the best way that the kid can learn.

There are better options
We tried out Sylvan Learning and had a good experience in the beginning. Later on the kids really struggled and didn't like their tutor as much as we would have hoped. We had to find another option and Beestar.org is a great option. Beestar is an online resource with both reading and math work and it is really great for the kids.

Money scammers
This place is a big rip off I sent my Granddaughter there for help and they did nothing to help her. They just love to take your Money and do nothing for her. Then they say shes doing and turns around and gives here a bad review. If there giving bad reviews on kids then it sounds like there not doing there job. Dont take your kids to this place it is nothing but a big scam.
