Don't use them!!!

My experience with the Extra Space Storage location in Vineland, NJ has been extremely concerning. After falling behind due to financial hardship, I was notified that my unit was scheduled for lien auction on 02/26/2026. When I reviewed the auction listing photos taken by the facility after they accessed my unit, it was clear that the contents inside had been disturbed, shifted, and thrown around compared to how the unit was originally packed.I contacted the facility in good faith to dispute the handling of my stored property and requested a postponement of the auction so I could inspect the contents before my personal belongings were permanently sold. My concerns were not acknowledged or investigated in any way. I was simply told that the only way to stop the auction was to pay the full balance of $395.02.At this point, I have no way of knowing whether any of my personal property has been damaged or gone missing prior to the sale because I have not been allowed to inspect the unit after it was accessed by the facility.Customers trust storage companies to safeguard their belongings, even during the lien process. Being told that my only option is to pay in full after my property appears to have been mishandled — without any effort to address the condition of the contents — is unacceptable.I have before-and-after photographic documentation and have been forced to seek further action to prevent the sale of my personal property before I am able to determine its condition.

I received a rate10% rate increase…

I received a rate10% rate increase after 2 months and have received another 10% rate increase after an additional 6 months. The letter gives me 30 days notice but since i am out of the country I don't have a resolution. This is clearly a private equity company operating on a bait and switch. They offer a rate and as soon as your in you are going to receive constant rate increases with their explanation being that they are raising rates due to market conditions. I would recommend not to rent storage from this company

I called the Extra Space Storage Unit…

I called the Extra Space Storage Unit in South Holland Illinois and tried to inquire about how many times, have they, increased the unit rent over a year or 6 month period. I asked the manager who is a guy if he can provide those statistics. He eluded to everything else, but answer me. They have a promotion going on now, that is very persuasive to make you move in. But I think that these are predatory practices. And his reply was that you can always move out after a month, if I you are not satisfied. Like what?? Most people, at-least need to rent out the space for 6-12 months. So please play those mind games on someone else.I think that storage units should be required to give customers these statistics about their renting history or practices for the last 6 months or year. This helps the customers make an informed decision if they want to sign a rental agreement with them. Prices have shot through the roof on everything and no one has time for these games or bad business practices.

2 year rental lost it all due to theft.

I rented 2 units from 2023 to 2026 my experience was nothing more than a nightmare. I thought my belongings were safe during my family housing transitions. All of furniture was damaged every box or tote was opened and just about everything of value was stolen from us broken or completely ruined . I was never told there was a door access in the back of my unit that needed a key. I found out an employee had a key to my unit so it was an inside job of burglary. I found my washer and dryer outside my unit and all of our Christmas gifts stolen. The staff didn't notify me of the theft i just happened to go to it. I confronted the staff and got nothing. The insurance company will not respond. My units were broken into several times. My mom had a unit we found her belongings in the back of storage and the unit was open. It took so long for them to repair and close her unit. They only offered reimburstment for 1 month rent.

Hidden Costs

I looked on location at the unit that I was interested in. The site was appealing. The online price was attractive. I began applying. Then, wala, a $29 adiminstration fee. What??? Amazing! What a way to gouge people.

Very Concerning Experience

Very Concerning Experiencelocation: 2800 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90006I rented a unit at this location and recently discovered that my personal lock had been removed and replaced with a red lock. After asking staff to open the unit, I found that several suitcases had been emptied and bags containing clothes, shoes, and other valuables (worth over $50,000) were missing.Staff were unable to provide clear answers and advised me to file a police report and an insurance claim, if applicable. I was later told that there had been multiple break-ins in recent weeks, that there is no overnight security patrol, and that camera coverage is limited.I am still waiting for clarification regarding when this occurred (specific dates), why I was not notified (you have my email and phone number), who authorized access to my unit to place the red lock, why the manager stated that a police report had been filed for this incident (only for me to later discover that none had been filed), and why there was a sudden change of manager and other staff members after the incident.Based on my experience, I strongly recommend carefully evaluating the security measures at this location before storing valuable items and checking your unit regularly.

Worst company ever

When I ordered this unit, I was given a discounted price and told I would have that price for the remainder of the time that I was in the unit. I did read the contract and saw that it said they had 30 days to contact me if they wanted to change the price. Five months into my lease they doubled the price. When I called to ask about it, They said my unit was in high demand so they had to increased the price. I never received any written notification saying that the price would go up and when I told them this, they said that they had sent it to me and that was that. I promptly moved out of the storage unit because I will not pay that much to store my stuff. They are shady, they are sneaky, and I would never recommend that you rent a unit from them. They also never mentioned that I had to carry insurance on my unit. This company is out to get you. All they care about is the money. DONT RENT FROM THEM!!!!

Price bate and switch

Price bate and switch. Price will double on you and then you will be stuck if you can't move out before the price gouging. If you can find another storage place, do that or if you go with them, make sure you have plenty of hands that can help you move out at any time.

I have been a long-time customer of…

I have been a long-time customer of Extra Space Storage and previously left a positive review due to good experiences; however, my recent interaction was extremely disappointing.I attempted multiple times to make my monthly payment on January 26–27 through online and phone systems, which failed due to system issues during inclement weather closures. I began calling immediately and did not receive a callback. When I finally reached a representative on January 28, I was informed my balance had unexpectedly increased. Although the payment system failure was documented, the Rice Boulevard property manager was dismissive, unprofessional, and unwilling to review the issue or payment history.I was told resolution was “at the manager’s discretion,” even though the issue was not caused by negligence. This lack of accountability—especially when lien timelines are involved—is concerning.I expected better communication, fairness, and professionalism from a company trusted with customers’ personal belongings. I hope corporate leadership addresses this issue so other customers do not experience the same treatment.

The process of renting this unit was so easy. The unit was clean and never once did we have any issues with bugs or any other type of animals. The grounds all around the area including the trash dumpster were always clean. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Severe Rate Increases and No Corporate Response After Multiple Escalations

Review: We’ve stored two households’ worth of belongings with Extra Space Storage for over 2½ years or more due to economic hardship. During that time, our monthly rate has been raised by $50–$80 every six months. Our current rate is $420, which is no longer sustainable for any family trying to stay afloat. For context, if we had not personally intervened before each previous rate increase, we would have already absorbed at least three additional $50–$80 increases prior to this forced jump to $420. Each cycle required us to spend time, energy, and resources disputing the increases just to maintain a stable rate. This pattern is what led to the current escalation to corporate. We followed every proper channel — the facility, the district manager, and multiple escalations to corporate. Corporate has not responded to a single call or email. We even went to the facility in person on the 18th because we have an active escalation pending, and still no acknowledgment. We also filed a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General and have not received any response from Extra Space Storage. At this point, we are at risk of losing everything we’ve stored simply because the company will not respond to its own escalation process.Important clarification: We are not seeking further interaction with the facility manager or the district manager. Both levels have already blocked our attempts to resolve this issue, which is why the matter was escalated to corporate. We are requesting communication exclusively from Extra Space Storage’s corporate team.Requested resolution: A fair and sustainable rate adjustment, acknowledgment of our escalation, waiver of late fees caused by delayed corporate response, and a temporary rate freeze until this is resolved.

This company ran a bait and switch…

This company ran a bait and switch promotion. They signed us up at $81 a month. After 3 months, they sent a notification that seemingly said nothing of importance, but in the small print, stated the rates were going up to $171 a month. DO NOT TRUST this company. I called their rep and she stated that they made this abundantly clear that this was a short-term temporary promotion. Upon reviewing the contract, that it is a lie. Fortunately for us, we have plenty of facilities around here with much more honest business practices. Don't get caught using this company for your storage. You WILL drastically overpay.

Staff, location, security - just awesome!

I have been a storage renter of the same storage unit since 2018, that's pretty awesome, longevity! Location is in Rumford, RI that's managed by Amanda and Scott, who are both awesome and provided the best experience. Any foreseen changes, updates or renovations, I was notified! Didn't drive my new custom motorcycle much; nonetheless, because of the tight security, 24 hour surveillance, controlled password gated entry at specified times, I never had to worry about checking up on my bike. Overall, I am grateful and very well pleased for over the years having stored my bike there. Thank you!!

Absolute bait and switch scam

Absolute bait and switch with regards to pricing. Signed up online with no promotion pricing and after 4 months my price more than doubled, no warning, no reason. Assumed I had a running contract. How this isn't predatory pricing, I do not know.

Bait-and-switch scam. DON’T FALL FOR THEIR “PROMO PRICE” TRAP

Bait-and-switch scam.I moved into Extra Space Storage in August 2025 at $160/month. Just 2–3 months later, I was charged $264 — a 50%+ increase with no warning.Support claimed the rate is “subject to change,” but increasing it this much so soon is predatory. I was never notified about the increase; they say it was mailed, but I never received anything. No one mentioned at move-in that the price would jump this fast or this high. This business lures you in with low rates and then traps you with massive increases once you’re locked in. Worst storage experience I’ve had. AVOID!!

This company will steal your belongings

They continue to raise the rent at a fast pace so they can steal your stuff! They bait you with a low advertised price and then raise the rent until you cant afford to pay so they can auction off your stuff. Don't use this company for storage. They are true criminals.

Shady Billing practices, Constant rent raises with no ceiling.

I have been a "tenant" at Extra Space for many years. I currently have 3 12'x32' units. When I moved in (before covid) my rent was approx. $196.00 / month. Since then, they have been raising my rent every 3-6 months and I am currently at $560 per month, per unit. Extra Space is a shady storage provider with almost nobody to talk to and no recourse other than moving your stuff somewhere else. They bank on your inability to pack up and move. My advice, if you need short term storage, take them up on their promotional offer and get out as soon as the rent raises begin.
