I booked a 1h massage and had a pleasant experience. Very clean and relaxing environment, and the massage therapist knew what she was doing. I was asked what I wanted the therapist to focus on, which I appreciated.
Although my husband had an excellent Deep tissue hot stone massage and the ambiance of this place was really beautiful, my experience with therapist Layla for pregnancy massage sadly was not as enjoyable. I am 34 weeks pregnant.From my experience with qualified pregnancy massage therapists, pregnancy massage does not mean using your palm (no other variation of technique whatsoever) to stroke body parts LIGHTLY for 1 hour. I honestly felt like she was scared to massage me. I requested 6 times for a slightly firmer pressure (and told her I couldn't feel much) to which she responded that certain pressure points exist so she has to keep it very gentle. I explaned that I have heard otherwise from other therapists and my doctor; so she acknowledged my request but no adjustments were made. I've had multiple pregnancy massages by qualified therapists and it was never as gentle as this* I was extremely upset during the entire hour as my back was aching so her soft strokes brought no relief, just frustration really. Layla spent a good 15 minutes with the same stroke on my neck to the point of discomfort and me having to ask if she can deal with my back (the issue i specified before we started). When I looked up at her, she was looking away into the corner day dreaming (which explains the repetitiveness of her strokes on one area for a quarter of an hour).It was quite stressful to continually be ignored for a paid service, especially when i was in so much pain. Never once asked if I was happy, not even in the end when most therapists check. Walked out crying. Told by manager that I'm "the only person who has complained" was a bit of a rude shock I must say. Not sure what it says about their work ethic that one customer’s experience doesn’t matter. Not even a sore-tired pregnant woman.I appreciate that Layla may have thought she was looking out for me, but I find it hard to believe that she is a qualified pregnancy therapist as her manager claimed on the phone.If she was, she’d know that You cannot induce a woman to labor unless you apply focused attention on pressure points. Layla, please note that pressure points on women in late pregnancy include the wrists, heels, ankles and a point on the hand, not the entire pregnant body. it felt like she knew I was in pain but chose to ignore it out of fear she would induce me.Quite sad that this was my first experience here, especially as my husband had a very different/positive experience.Advice: don't put a therapist who is scared of pregnancy in charge of pregnancy massages. Also, try adding that you only do gentle pressure under the description for pregnancy massage, right beside the £50 you charge. I regret not leaving when it became apparent that Layla was not going to adjust her ‘technique’, I didn't want to disturb my husband who was placed in the same room as me (he was distracted enough as it is by my repeated requests to Layla). 50 pounds to be stroked. My husband does a job 10 times better for free.
