Lack of transparency in the rescue adoption process on major platforms of transparency in the rescue…

My experience using adoption platforms such as Adopt-a-Pet and Petfinder raised concerns about how the adoption screening process works across many independent rescues that list animals through these services.I fully support adoption and believe rescue organizations play an important role in helping animals find homes. However, the structure of the system allows individual rescues and foster volunteers to make final determinations about adopters without any clear indication that there are standardized training requirements, behavioral certification standards, or veterinary-level evaluation involved in those decisions. For prospective adopters, it can be surprising to learn that the people evaluating applications may simply be volunteers rather than individuals with formal training in animal behavior assessment or veterinary medicine. While many volunteers are undoubtedly well-intentioned, the lack of consistent professional standards can lead to subjective decisions that vary widely from one rescue to another.Because platforms like Adopt-a-Pet and Petfinder function as centralized marketplaces for adoptable animals, the public may assume there are consistent oversight standards guiding these evaluations. In reality, the process can differ significantly depending on the rescue or foster group managing the listing.Greater transparency about qualifications, evaluation criteria, and decision-making processes would improve trust for adopters and help ensure that placement decisions are made in a way that benefits both animals and families.

Potential Adopters

We listed a senior shitzu and explained we could no longer take care of him due to health issues. Had 2 people respond that they wanted to adopt him. I responded quickly to both within a couple of hours. I called , sent e mails texts. Finally one apologized after 5 days saying she could not adopt him. Thats it. The other sent the adoption papers over, called her ,emailed her, finally texted her next day. Finally she answered found another dog. Then why are you wasting my time.24 hours had not even past. Very frustrating .

These people do not have the dogs best…

These people do not have the dogs best interest at heart because if they did, they wouldn’t be adopting pets out for $1000 as a rescue 650 the point about rescue is to save an animals life and not put a price tag on it. That’s so un affordable for somebody and if somebody had that kind of money they could go to a breeder and get a brand new puppy I’ve come across so many scams. I also found out that even though it’s a nonprofit, I don’t know if people know this, but the people that are running adopt a pet the Mars group the CEO of the company makes hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars and I’ve come across so many scams and it breaks my heart cause there’s so many dogs out there that need loving homes. It’s like for somebody that wants to adopt a child that can bear one of their own because adopted animals and adopted children are so very wanted and me. I lost my dog of almost 11 years to stomach cancer and I want so much to make a difference and adopt a dog, but I cannot afford their fees and these people do not care and mind you where I live. We have clinics to get shots at inexpensive cost. There’s veterinarians that do low-cost Spayed and neutering “I believe believe in I’m so disappointed just like the medical system just like our judicial system and now be adoption of pets is just another form of injustice with broken links.

Save a rescue here! You should know the pick the best…

You should know they only pick the best homes so be prepared to prove yourself. It’s in the best interest of the animals not you, as it should be. It took us a a couple weeks of being persistent and having our other two dogs spayed and neutered to comply with the requirements. Our dog was rescued after being hit by a car so the fence requirement was completely understandable and after that the adoption process was simple. Our new rescue dog is more than we could have asked for. We love him more each day. In Sacramento we met Divya and her husband and I must say these people are angels sent from God saving these pets from being euthanized. Bless these guys for their hard work and sacrifice giving all the animals a second chance for a loving home. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart and our new boy will be loved and enjoyed the rest of his life. We give Adopt A Pet, A+ and 💯 percent recommend them.

Terrible experience — complete disappointment

I submitted an adoption application, paid the fee, and received zero communication or updates from the team. Their site felt like a data-collector with little follow-through, leaving me frustrated and without a pet. Not recommended at all.

The company facilitates ZERO feedback and/or updates about pets listed on their site after making an application. Instead I get bombarded with junk marketing emails from their corporate partners.

I made a deal, got no puppy!

I made a deal with one of your puppies listed. Her name is Choco. I was to pick her up Saturday the 6th of September. I texted them in the late morning to check on Choco. No one contacted me. I texted again and nothing. I had not gotten the address yet. Absolutely no calls no texted. Silence!!!!. I check my text every hour hoping their just not around. Still nothing. I was really depressed getting my hopes up, and such a horrible let down. There must be a way to make these people credible.

You’re incapable of loving and caring for a dog if you don’t have a fully fenced backyard yard, they’ll say. Homeless animal crisis who?

It’s wild to me how many applications I’ve had turned down because I don’t have a “fully fenced backyard with a six foot high fence”. It’s absurd that’s the criteria that makes a “good” pet owner. These dogs are sitting there without a home, people are trying to adopt - despite the $800 adoption fee and convoluted application process - when they could be adopted, loved and start their journey of healing and happiness. I don’t have a yard though, so *^*# me. I’m in law enforcement, make well above average and have the ability to bring my dog to work - but still, no fenced yard so I’m incapable 🤷🏻‍♀️.

All of the applications I received

All of the applications I received, 7 total, were chatbots. I had a litter of free kittens to re-home. I live in Maryland and received a response from Ontario! As if someone is going to cross the border for a free kitten? Drive nine hours each way? After the first 5 were screened out, I contacted the site and told them that I was only getting contact from AI. Their reply - We checked out your applicants and have verified that they are authentic human interest! The site is a total scam. I called them out on it and they lied about what I had proved to be the truth! And then they sent two more chatbots my way!

Its not an adoption site, its a collection and seller site

This site seems to be a collector of information more then finding homes for pets. Look at the reviews, most are the same thing. Information collection or 1500.00 adaption fees, which equals to people "SELLING" the pets, not the adoption this site uses to play on the heart strings of animal lovers.

Adopt-A-Pet company is terrble.

Adopt-A-Pet company and places online, too many problems. I filled out the form already, not helpful at all. A waste of time. They lied to me, the site said it was the same dog in a different city, terrible. I told them I wanted to buy this dog. They didn't care at all. They did not give me this dog at all. I can't get this dog at all. Really bad service. This company is lousy. I will never use this company again. I gave them a zero stars rating. I do not recommend it.

I was so skeptical based on the reviews…

I was so skeptical based on the reviews that I panicked. It wasn't long however, that I received a reply. We chose to meet at a Pet Smart and met the dog. We then scheduled a meeting with our family dogs and ended up taking their female husky. I believe some use the site to scam people, so read through the sites warnings about scammed and just be smart. It isn't a scam and I had my new dog within about 3 days.

This organization is honestly the worst…

This organization is honestly the worst adoption process I’ve ever been through, I applied to adopt on Father’s Day and haven’t gotten any reply since, I’ve called and called with 0 response whatsoever and still have not gotten a response to my application at all. I call within the hours that they say they’re “working” but I get 0 response.

We came to adopt a kitten last week and…

We came to adopt a kitten last week and instantly applied to adopt him once we saw him since he reminded us of a cat we used to have years ago. A week passes with 0 response, we called every single day for the whole week but our calls and voice messages were completely ignored as well as our adoption application. We came to the store for their adoption event and spoke to someone who finally got them to respond to us. But then they denied us for adoption because they said they “wanted to keep him with his sister” even though they weren’t a “bonded pair”.

the 2 wk window came and gone, then blocked

the 2 wk window came and gone, i reached out via email on the same day i did the inquiry via the website. I reached out today to their fb page and they sent a : "?" and blocked me. Hobo's Home in Millerton, PA 16936. These places ask for references, make phone calls, so much personal and professional data on not just you but those you know. The cat i was interested in is Monday. you can find the cute black kitten there. data selling scam. I mean just look at the information you have to share on the forms, if you had a great experience- i think you are in the minority. My cat of 15 yrs passed away 2 years ago and finally at that point to love another cat and this happens. and no- i did not fill out a form as i wanted to have personal contact as the website says, they will contact in 2 wks.
