the rental booking was for a car at Salzburg airport.Hidden costs are not shown when browsing alternatives.I chose Dryyve who had hidden extra costs, In particular 200 euro deposit taken to cover possible driving fines, and not returned for 6 months!So no money back yet for me.Also 100 euro cost to drive into Germany (right next to Salzburg so difficult to avoid) even though rental company Dryyve are German.
Paid for car hire at Malaga airport with CarRental8. I picked a ^teputable^ company with good reviews: Dollar. But Dollar doesn’t exist at Malaga airport- it’s Hertz. Took me a lot of asking around to find that out. After I had returned the car, I was charged another 186 euro for ‘super cover” location surcharge and tax. I had paid CarRental8 £124 already- I thought that was the total. So in total around £300 for 4 days. Never again
I was initially double-charged. After following up multiple times over several weeks, the refund was eventually processed and received.The issue was resolved.
I did a car rental search via Kayak. The rental was to be in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Carrental8 were a little cheaper so I booked with them, and they showed the rental was with Budget Rent a Car, who I have used before, so I was comfortable.That lasted until I looked at the rental agreement!For that class of car in South Africa, other companies apply an insurance excess of ZAR11,000 to ZAR15,000 (About £500 - £700). Hidden in the almost incomprehensible agreement for this rental, the excess was ZAR554,000 (about £25,000)!They also levy a deposit more than double any other I could find.I emailed them to ask for clarification. Their response took so long that I cancelled the rental and booked elsewhere. They did not answer my questions when they eventually responded to me.
Like many reivews on this site, I also would STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND using CarRental8.com. My star rating is actually ZERO, but this site does not accomodate that. My experience is thatI I purchased (i) a car rental and (ii) Collision Damage Coverage from CarRental8.com. They charged me for both products, but only communicated the car rental to Dollar Rental, their Supplier, but not the fact that I also purchased insurance.Four emails since 1/9/26 requesting a refund for the undelivered insurance purchased through CarRental8.com have not resolved the issue. What I did receive are: misstatements (told me I purchased a different product than what was on their own receipt); misdirection (insurance is provided thru RentalCover.com, essentially "not our problem", even thought they charged me for this product WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED); fantasy-world logic (told me I needed to cancel this package before the pick up date to get a refund. huh? I only found out there was no insurance (which was prepaid) when I arrived at the Dollar Rental counter). My most recent, fifth (1/12/26) and sixth (1/18/26) emails have not been responded to as of the date of this review (1/22/26). ps. To CarRental8.com - If you read this and intend to respond with apologies, offers to "research and get back to me", and / or offers to (i) reach out to Supplier to "esclate", (ii) reach out to me for my booking number, and / or (iii) reach out to me for other additional information, please note the following. The Supplier didn't sell me this initial insurance, you did - if you think Dollar Rental is ripping you off, that's your issue with them not my issue- YOU HAVE MY PREPAID INSURANCE MONEY! I'M EXPECTING A REFUND FROM YOU! My booking number, was already provided to your Customer Service representative, Genet Mahti (AutoEurope). Lastly four other suppporting documents were also already provided to your Customer Service represestative, Genet Mahti. I suggest you contact him / her.The only acceptable response is a speedy refund. Anything else is continued BS.1/29/26 review update. Your below 1/29/26 reply continues the BS. The prepaid insurance I purchased through CarRental8.com was not communicated by You to the actual car rental Supplier (Dollar Rental, in this case). The insurance I subsequently purchased from the Supplier at pickup has nothing to do with the fact that you charged me for insurance that was never delivered.Your reply resolves nothing. As previsouly stated, the only acceptable response is a speedy refund.
Very poorDo not use this company I rented a car through this website not appreciating it is a 3rd party.On arriving to pick up the car I was informed by the rental company I was not entitled to a car as I had not arrived at the airport pick up by plane.i did not get refunded the fee paid.
They offer misleading information about car rentals. They tell you and show you a picture of a four-door car, but when you go to pick it up, it doesn't exist. And if you want the four-door version, you have to pay an extra $200. Renting the car through them cost me $50 more than if I had rented directly from Hertz.
These people are swindlers. We hired a car through them and when we arrived at the desk we had to pay for insurance on top. In our receipt it said £0 left to pay. Very unclear and expensive. Then it is impossible to contact them as there is one form online that doesn't work and the phone number never picks up with a real human. Don't use these people!!
Save yourself time, their price isn’t really what it shows. Car Rental 8 is an agency that act as middle man.Small underline on the terms and condition may change your entire policy which will result in totally different contract.All they do is to attract you with low price onto a contract and the actual car rental company they’re referring you to does not accept their insurance policy so you have to pay it once again, which make the price to what it was originally all of it started from not having a credit card, as the company they’re referring me to, do not accept debit card neither cash or tells you, you can’t take a deposit back you have to check with the platform you have rented the car. And when raising the query with car rental 8 I am being told it’s on the terms and condition.Beside after requesting their assistance that this contract is no longer the same and I am ending up paying 380 instead of £90 which is x4 the original amount, they’re telling me word by word : oh you should have read the terms and conditions, Hang on a minute who reads the terms and conditions in 2026 ? Isn’t business mostly about trust ? I will never rent a car from there again, and will ensure to spread the word I am a very talkative person without social anxiety I might even sing stay away from car rental 8 during my flights. if your calls are recorded listen to how your agent has spoken to me with a mocking tone just like you want to say : haha got you !Absolutely unprofessional. Another American company that works with cheap call centers.
The first time I used Car Rental 8 to reserve a car in California, I was happy with the rate and experience. However, I will not be using this service again due to a reservation made in Atlanta, where I found out how important it is to choose the rental company.While going through the process of selecting a car, there was a notification that cancelations were “flexible.” After booking, I found out the cancellation fee was almost equal to the cost of the rental. I was also informed that Routes would be the rental agency.When making the reservation, I used a specific credit card because it provides rental car coverage, plus I have full automotive insurance. However, I was informed at the Atlanta airport location that I could use either my auto insurance or the credit card coverage, but not both. I was required to pay an extra $15 a day to add loss of use coverage to my auto insurance. This is the first time I’ve encountered this sort of rule when renting a car from any company.
We booked and fully prepaid the car in Fort Lauderdale. Price was ok. When we arrived, our reservation was cancelled because we were 2 hours late. Voucher which Car Rental 8 provided didn't say a word about time frame. I talked to CarRental8 manager on duty about restoring the reservation and instead was told a complete nonsense about my previous reservation. Absolutely terrible customer service and terrible rules. With the fully prepaid reservation this whole approach is deeply wrong. Just imaging family with kids and no car. Do not use them under any circumstances.!!!
I booked a car for Geneva Airport in December. Carrental8 had good prices and an efficient booking process. The 5 stars are for the excellent customer service. Unfortunately I had to cancel my car hire on the day of pick up due to my own mistake. Despite them having no obligation to help me out they offered me a significant refund on my hire. Their emails were also clear and helpful. Thanks!
Be very careful when booking a car through this third party company. They are totally inflexible. Once you start the rental, there are no changes and no refunds.I thought I had purchased collision damage waver insurance from them, the No Risk Warranty option, but it was only a $1000 max damage payment and it cost $303! It was my fault for not paying closer attention, but still the high cost and the inability to cancel the remainder of my rental was outrageous.
Definitely stay away. Rented a car from the for £150 only to turn up and them ask for a £1500 deposit! 10x the rental amount!! The 'gentleman' on the desk was rude and quite vulgar. Definitely not the kind of place that would trust to ever return your deposit! Unfortunately I hadn't read the trustpilot reviews before turning up, but thankfully came across them before they took the deposit. Ended up by walking away. Would rather that then them take me to the cleaners! DEFINITELY DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They refused to refund me too even though I didn't take the car and made the booking the evening before.
On pick-up of car (in Nov in a snowy Denmark) I was told car did not have winter tyres and that it was illegal to drive a car in ice or snow without them! So they rented a car to me that could not legally be driven! Seemingly, they saw this as an optional extra (for which you have to book in advance), but no indication of such advance booking requirement was given in the small print. Besides, I don't think that the car being drivable is an optional extra! Maybe I should have checked whether the steering wheel was included too!Carrental8 response to my complaint, was superficial and dismissive.
Worst rental company that has a serious lack of ethics. Don't use unless you want your vacation ruined.

i have used CarRental8 seven times in the last two years. They offer competitive rental rates by aggregating the best deals across dozens of rental agencies. Most of the time, my use of their services is without incident.Twice, however, the rental agency to which they sent me refused to complete the sale and CarRental8 has denied my refund, costing me hundreds of dollars. i will document my last such experience.i placed my order and then i received my voucher to pick up the vehicle. The voucher revealed that i would pick up my vehicle from the "Routes" agency. When i arrived at Routes, however, the agency refused to fulfill my order because my license was in-state. i emailed CarRental8 to refund the order, but they refused to issue the refund because they claim i had agreed to the rental agency's policies when the order was placed.However, the agency is not identified until after CarRental8 is paid and the voucher is sent. In fact, within the order form itself, it states "Exact supplier revealed after booking is confirmed". CarRental8 requires you to agree to their terms of service but the full terms cannot be revealed because the agency has not been revealed. Consequently, i was never afforded an opportunity to inspect the final terms for myself until well after the order was completed. Furthermore, since i supplied my drivers license details through CarRental8, they had the information they needed to determine that the Routes agency was unsuitable. They opted instead to issue me a worthless voucher and to take my money without providing the services they advertised.Weeks have gone by without word from CarRental8 support. They will not acknowledge that they made a mistake when selecting the rental agency and their studied refusal to engage with their customers indicates to me that they know precisely what they are doing. This order was not a mistake, this was fraud and business as usual.
DO NOT RENT A CAR THROUGH CAR RENTAL 8We booked a car through Car Rental 8 only to discover that the rental supplier cancelled our booking. We were therefore left stranded at Venice Airport with a 5 hour journey ahead of us, to the place that we were staying for a few days.We sent an urgent email to car rental 8 (twice) as they'd not provided us with a contact phone number. They replied THREE DAYS LATER. We finally managed to arrange a car hire through another rental supplier however at SEVEN times the cost of the original fee that we'd paid with Car Rental 8.When we returned to the UK, We then had to make costly calls to Car Rental 8 in the USA to get our money back.
