Brilliant but pleeeeese be on DAB for the car!
What a great trip. Went out on Sunday the 8th at 11am. Small groups, maybe 10 or 12 people from west mersea. Arrived on the jetty to get on the tender to take the short 20 minute trip out to the Ross Revenge. Sea was pretty calm. We were then met by a welcoming party aboard the ship and split into two groups and taken around the ship. Very knowledgeable and interesting tour of the ship that includes the history and origins of the ship and how it was converted to become the ship it became in broadcasting history. Very nostalgic to be going into the recording studios and record store to try to understand what life was like for the people who took part in offshore broadcast pioneering for months on end. Being of an age that I still distinctly remember radio London shutting down and the marine broadcasting act coming into force in august 1967. That left radio Caroline to fight on. You do have to appreciate that stairs are steep, rooms are tight and you do get to go around the ship from the bottom to the top. A great day, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and well done to all the people involved.
It was cold Saturday afternoon on the 13th January but the sun was out and the sea calm.Stuart our friendly captain took a group of us out to see the famous Ross Revenge where the hard working DJ we’re doing a live weekend broadcast. We were welcomed aboard by Johnny Lewis and Josh Holmes-Bright. I was shown around by a very knowledgeable ( despite his age 18), Josh who is also Radio DJ Young Person of the Year 2023. But also knew his history of the ship. There were a few tight areas and steep stairs but that gave you a better feel for how it was on board a pirate ship. We went into the live broadcasting room as well as the captain’s area, the rest room , 2nd recording studio and for me the best area was the record library with all the 1,000+ singles and vinyl albums and all that history. We had no sooner got on board and the approximately 90min visit was over.We were well looked after as always as this was my 3rd visit. If you want to know about pirate radio and especially the history of Caroline, then this is an excellent place to go and well worth a visit.
We went for a tour on Radio Caroline's ship, the Ross Revenge and it was just prefect! Johnny Lewis showed us round, along with Grant Benson, both DJs who I have often listened to on their past North Sea broadcasts. We even got a quick inclusion during the live broadcast as we went into the studio on air. Stu got us out very safely on the tender. We joined easily via the link at radiocaroline.co.uk
Visited the ship in June and was shown round by Jony Lewis. A fantastic host and a wealth of knowledge. Chris Pearson was on air and again he was fantastic. This trip is a must for anyone remotely interested in radio. Even my wife loved it and she’s not in to radio at all.
