Run as fast as you can- I finally canceled this morning. We had an accident in December. Due to local tow companies not answering Directs calls we sat on the side of the road almost 4 hours before giving up on the free towing. When I called local tow companies to ask why they weren’t helping, they told me because it’s hard getting Direct to pay them. The agents we had helping at the time spoke broken English which made it even harder to understand what help we were getting. We never spoke to an American. This was a couple days before Christmas. We sat in the cold for HOURS. We had been told we had rental reimbursement which we did not. It was all a NIGHTMARE. Today I checked Allstate and was able to get a cheaper price WITH towing & rental reimbursement. Just make the switch asap to avoid all the trouble that’s ahead of you. And yes Allstate owns Direct. But with Direct you get the lower end of the chain. Kind of like comparing Dollar Tree to Target.
I called and waited on speaking with a person for 45 min, then was transfered to a Florida agent ( despite initially entering my zip code ) and waited 30 minutes for that agent. Then after giving all of my information, disconnected! Call back and opted for an agent to me back, waited and after an hour of waiting, called back, waited another 30 minutes and finally spoke to an agent( with terrible reception and language barrier, speaking English) finally was able to insure my new car! What a cluster xxxx!! I am leaving Direct, directly and advise other to stay away. Imagine trying to submit a claim, but that can be said for all insurance companies! They are all theives and they are so proud to be.

If I could give these people 0 stars I would. They are AWFUL. They do not help the customer AT ALL they don't care they just want their payment. They wouldn't even move my payment back 4 DAYS. 4. Without hitting me with two separate fees. They are telling me i'm going to get 3 different fees to cancel with them. DO NOT USE DIRECT AUTO INSURANCE !!!!!!!!
I would give them a zero Bought policy online then said there was an error. Took money from my bank and no policy. Been on phone 3 hours sounds like BIG scam. I recorded conversation 3 reps confirming payment but no policy was generated. Last guy Elijah also confirmed then wanted my cc again. Then came back said there was no payment. I told him Ive been recording the conversation and he hung up. So now I still dont have my money or a policy.
I started my policy on January 20 and submitted all required documentation the same day. I received confirmation and the policy was issued.A week later, my rate increased because I had not yet used the dynamic drive app. I explained that the vehicle had just been purchased from an auction and was still in the shop. After clarification, they credited the account and adjusted the rate back.Shortly after that, I received an email stating they had not received prior insurance documentation despite the fact that it had already been submitted on January 20. I had to speak with four different customer service representatives before they finally located the documents. I was told the rate would be corrected back to the agreed amount.Two weeks passed and nothing was adjusted.Due to the repeated billing inconsistencies and lack of follow-through, I canceled the policy before the next payment due date (the 20th) and switched providers. After canceling, I received an email stating I owed a balance related to automatic draft cancellation.This entire experience was frustrating and unnecessarily complicated. Clear communication, accurate documentation handling, and consistent billing are fundamental expectations when purchasing insurance. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet those standards.
We took out a policy last Thursday. The price is good but they are saying we missed one page to sign, I can’t log into there app even though everything is correct. Now they are saying if it’s not signed by Friday they will cancel our policy???? What in the h$$$!!! This is a nightmare! I am currently on hold and have been for an hour.
If I could give this place a 0 I would. One of the worst experiences of my life. My husband and I overpaid our insurance early. At the time the were updating their system without notifying their customers. I paid on the feb.6 it posted on Feb 9. They are still saying we owe them money. The bill was not due until the 2-13. They said they received the overpayment. But unless the system updates by 2-27. They are cancelling our insurance. Huh???!! And the agent and the customer service rep is so rude!!! This was the worst mistake of our life!!! Save yourself a headache!!! Don't use them for insurance!!!
If you hold an insurance policy with this company just know if your at fault for accident this company will do everything they can to avoid covering the policy limits. They will force the victims attorney to file lawsuit against you and will refuse to communicate with the opposing party attorney making it twice as hard for you as policy holder. I had a car wreck with a direct auto insurance policy holder. Direct auto claims adjuster and the claims department refused to communicate at all with my attorneys or the court lawsuits had to be filed against the driver of the car multiple court dates and still no response from direct auto insurance trust when I tell you, you should definitely go to another insurance company because they will not help you when you get into a car wreck. Almost 2 years since the accident and it’s still being dragged out by direct auto. Future reference for all Illinois residence report all of your issues to the Attorney General’s office and the Better Business Bureau as they handle all corporate and company fraud and formal complaints to launch investigation.
They are horrible!!!! They charge too much. One agency lied and took two payment's which was $800. They won’t fix your car if someone hits you and will ignore you and your claim. Don’t waste your money or time. It’s just price gouging!! I hope they get shut down.
It takes forever to reach a live representative. Utterly ridiculous.
The Lexington, NC office a gentlemen by the name of Rikki Jeans made my day by being cery kind and patience. He was just adorable person who I think will be a good fit for helping others. I recommend the Lexington office.
I contacted Advance Auto Insurance to add a second vehicle and my wife as a driver. The setup link their representative sent created a new policy instead of updating the existing one, resulting in me being billed twice for the same vehicle. Despite multiple calls and written complaints, the issue was ignored, and I was still required to pay the balance on the “duplicate” policy. I would not recommend this company due to poor customer service and billing practices.
I made my payment on time while making the payment online. It said my payment was declined, but it wasn’t declined because it came out of my bank account and I received an email from Direct Auto saying thank you for your payment. Then I received an email the next day saying that my auto policy has been canceled for nonpayment, I called and advised them of the issue. The lady was supposed to call me back after she reached out to the underwriter she never called me back so I called back spoke to a gentleman who apologize said they’re having issues with their website the very next morning at 1 AM. I received an email once again stating that my policy has been canceled when I spoke to the gentleman earlier, I did receive a different email stating that my policy has been reinstated. I have proof that my payment was made and an email from Direct Auto and I’m still having issues that is the last thing that I need is for my drivers license to be suspended when I make my payments on time, I am definitely looking for another auto insurance company. This is a mistake that I can’t afford for them to screw Up. I also filed a complaint with the BBB and the FTC and I know both of them do reach out when you file complaints on a company.
This is the worse insurance company I have ever dealt with in my life. It’s horrible. Just because it’s cheaper don’t make it better or just as good as the others. You get what you pay for, remember that! Had a minor accident back in Sept of 2025, my suv is still in the shop waiting on payment from the Insurance company and now it’s Feb 2026. The adjuster is from another state, doesn’t care, won’t answer the phone or return phone calls, emails etc. If you have ever seen the commercials titled “halfway there insurance” with Keegan Michael Key and Danny McBride, this company is exactly that! They want your money and don’t care about your issues. I have talked to supervisors repeatedly, went into one of the local stores here in Alabama, they flat out told me they couldn’t help me. They even claimed they didn’t have a phone number they could give me to get an actual person on the phone. This has been an absolute nightmare and soon as this is over I’m changing insurance right away. Never had these issues with Geico. Stay away! You’ll regret it if you need them! They seriously don’t care about you or whether or not your car gets fixed! Scam scam scam!

The agent by the name of Shawn was who I spoke to, ran his mouth 200mph like a salesman. But couldn't answer any pertinent questions related to the industry. Once I realized it's owned by Allstate, then that says it all. Avoid allstate and all its subsidiaries. This is a company that has a reputation that precedes itself by not paying out any claims that their insured are at fault.
Can you give a review with negative stars? This is the most unethical company I have ever seen. My payment increased over $100 in less than 45 days on 3 separate occasions. Each one for different reasons. 1-needed proof of continuous coverage (provided 30 days prior upon start of policy) 2-computer system change 3-change of automatic draft cancel (automatic draft was never initiated or cancelled). Local agency number not in service unless she called me. Email responses stopped. I called the 8774634732 and the agent said she was checking my policy and after 30 minutes on hold I have a man asking why I was calling and after I stated the lady put me on hold-he LAUGHED- and said she transferred me and he would transfer me back and LAUGHED AGAIN. When he transferred me back I received a message stating they were closed for the day even though it was prior to a new hour starting. Someone needs to investigate this place.
Absolutely terrible customer service I called 5 times about same issue and all the excuses were different. You get told one thing then something different. Its funny when they want their money they take is faster than you can say ok but when u cancel and get a refund they delay long as possible. I been waiting for a refund for much longer than they said.Do not use this insurance company they rip you off, lie to you.
