Less than any stars

Less than any stars. This place is a scam and all the booking agencies that are available online should not allow them to use their sites. I have always used (booking.com) for many travel arrangements with no problems until booking a rental car with NU Car. I paid for insurance and the complete rental online. After arriving at the airport we had to walk out to guest parking only to be shuttled to a seedy part of town where the pick up office was located in an old building that appeared to have been a night club. I was then told I had to purchase more insurance coverage and use my credit card for a $500 deposit of which I would only get a portion back. This caused my rental to be $200 more than what I had already paid online! This is a completely predatory type arrangement. I was in line with a young woman and toddler that were unable to rent a care and were left to be sitting outside in the heat trying to make some arrangements for another option. In small print on the care key tag it reads " if rental car is not returned in reasonable clean condition you will be charged $250 cleaning fee"So what are they considering "reasonable" if they have already lied about the cost of add ons and if they have my credit card hold deposit. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS CARE SERVICE. EVEN IF ON WELL KNOW BOOKING AGENCIES

No car even though I had a reservation

No car even though I had a reservation, was told a different car would be available in approximately two hours yet I would still have to pay the same price, Told to call expedia and expedia said it's not there issue.

Crooks!

-10. The worst experience with a car rental place. Do not go to this place. I rented a car through Priceline . By the time I got to check in I had to pay 💰 for extras like vehicle damage waiver. If I didn’t accept it I would be refused a car. This was at Denver, Colorado airport!

If I could give it zero

If I could give it zero, i would have. Do NOT rent from them. NO customer service. You will never get through to a person. Within 3 weeks of my rental i requested to change the primary driver. I did receive an email that said to provide driver and lic number which i did. ASked for confirmation. No response. Asked again, no response. Called, no response. Called many times..on hold and no response. Showed up to pick up car and was denied because driver was never changed. They would not honor the reservation despite showing proof of SINGLE communication to change driver. Lost the reservation and had to spend additional $225 for last minute rental with a dif company. I would NEVER rent from them or their sister company ACTION rental again!!!

Beware NU Car Rental car scam at LAX

We arrived for our 11 AM rental pickup at the Los Angeles Airport at 10:30 AM After20 minutes in lineWe were told that the car we reserved was not available.that we could come back in 2 hours and it would be there or that we could get a different car right alway for $122 (more than twice the car we had reserved). We decided to wait the additional two hours.Returning at 1:00 PM there was a long line a 45 minute wait. This time we had a different agent who repeated the same story that our car was not available but we could return in a couple of hours and it would be there,or they did have a car but it would cost $40 additional. The agent appeared to smirk when he said it. Frustrated I complained, feeling we didn't have choice at that point we agreed to it. The agent laughed as he gave us the keys and paper work. Also while waited the second time I could other custmers who seem to be having the issuse as us.

Overall a good experience

I rented an oversized van in Orlando for a family vacation. The rate was very good. I rarely add coverage to my rental cars because my credit cards cover rental cars, but I was told that I would have to include their coverage for some reason in the fine print. I was frustrated that I apparently did not see the fine print, but the agent was patient with me despite my poor attitude. The total cost was still cheaper than elsewhereWhen I returned the car I apparently didn't fill it up all the way and the agent told me I could go next door and take care of it. I was running late for the airport and took my frustration out on him. He was very calm and handled the situation very well. Overall it would have been a great eperience, but I didn't love the insurance situation.

I am extremely disappointed with my…

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with NU Car Rental in Bucharest (Otopeni), booked through DiscoverCars. My flight landed at 1:00 AM on Friday, 13th February. I had a fully prepaid booking for 10 days and I also hold annual excess insurance coverage. I was fully prepared to allow a €2,500 deposit to be blocked on my credit card — funds were available with no issue. However, when completing the paperwork, the representative refused to provide the car because my credit card displayed my first name and middle initial rather than my full middle name spelled out. He stated this was against their policy and therefore they could not block the deposit.Instead, I was told I must purchase their in-house insurance for approximately £350 if I wanted to take the car. This felt like a deliberate tactic. At 1:00 AM, after a flight, in a foreign country, with no immediate transport alternatives, this creates enormous pressure on customers to accept unnecessary insurance. I refused to pay and had to call a friend to collect me from the airport in the middle of the night.Afterwards, I checked other reviews and saw similar complaints. This appears to be a pattern: advertise extremely cheap rental prices and then find technicalities at the desk to force customers into buying expensive insurance.I have rented cars more than 20 times in my life and have never experienced this issue with a middle initial on a credit card. The card matched my name, was valid, and had sufficient funds. This experience was unacceptable, unprofessional, and left me stranded at night. As a frequent renter, you have permanently lost me as a customer.I strongly advise others to carefully reconsider before booking with this company in Bucharest.

Thought I would be OK renting from an off site company (NU) because it was through my Capital One credit card company travel. The price was reasonable at $142 for a week at Ft Lauderdale airport. The scam at check in was that an additional $344 had to be paid for insurance to cover total loss of the vehicle. I have full coverage with my own insurance, so I declined. Therefore, no vehicle. Total scam. Couple in front of me same problem. Stay away from these crooks!!!

NU Car Rental deceptive practices

I have never before taken the time to write a bad review for any services I have been provided until now, as this was worse than bad service it was a very shady scam after arriving at the Phoenix NU Car rental location. I had booked my rental car through Expedia on 12/21/25 via my credit card for car pick-up on 2/7/26. Total cost including daily car rental, taxes and fees at the time of the booking on Expedia was $504.32. This amount was placed on my credit card which, I paid in full when I received my credit card statement at the end of January 2026, before my trip to Phoenix on 2/7/26. A number of inccidents occurred after arriving in Phoenix and going to the NU Car location there that resulted my review of this company being less than a 1 if that would be possible.1. Upon arrival in Phoenix and while taking the lite rail train to the rental car center there I met another older couple on the train who while in discussion with, I discovered were also renting a car from NU Car. That couple and I decided that since we both were renting a car from NU Car that we would stick together to figure out how to get to the NU Car facility that is off site from the airport rental car center. Needless to say the directions provided by NU Car rental for getting to their facility in Phoenix were very inadequate and hard to navigate. After arriving at the airport rental car center the directions provided stated to exit to right of the train and walk straight ahead to the visitors parking lot elevator and take that elevator down to P level. Problem with this is that after exiting the train to right there is a wall straight ahead. For this reason, the other couple and I walked to the rental car center and proceeded to check both elevators there for a P level, which neither elevator there had. After looking around for quite a long period of time we finally found an employee to ask how to get to level P of the visitors parking lot. That employee directed.us to a single isolated elevator about 300 feet separated outside from the main rental car center. After finally getting to the area in the visitors parking where the shuttle picks you up, we were taken via shuttle to a very rough looking area of town where the NU Car rental car facility is located on E. Vanburen St. When arriving at the NU Car rental facility we were instructed to go inside to complete any paperwork and receive the key to our car. While walking inside you are greeted to a dimly lit counter area with loud music blaring. 2. During paperwork process I was asked by Andrew the rental agent if I would like to purchase the lost damage waiver. I proceeded to inform Andrew that my full coverage car insurance from State Farm would already be covering any damage that may occur to the vechicle. Andrew then stated he would verify this on their computer, which he at least appeared to do and then informed me that I was correct State Farm does provide coverage. Andrew then proceeded to have me complete the service agreement paperwork which included initializing 8 different areas including an area that included a loss damage waiver, which Andrew did not explain thoroughly, but did state that should not worry about initializing as any costs would be reversed upon returning the car to NU Car with no damage.3. When dropping the car back off at the Phoenix NU Car location, I was instructed to drive up to the drop off area, park the car with keys left in it and to immediately board the shuttle back to the airport rental car center to take the train from there back to the airport terminal. I specially asked if I needed to go inside at the Phoenix NU Car facility to complete any return paperwork and was informed by the NU Car employee that I just needed to get on the shuttle and that everything was taken care of. After arriving at my airport gate, I discovered why I was hurried on the shuttle back to the rental car center. While at the gate I received an emailed invoice/receipt from NU Car rental that included additional charges totaling $438.02 (including $351.89 loss damage waiver, $2.50 rental surcharge, $66.00 facility charge, $49.17 operator fee. $55.00 vechicle license, $97.29 taxes, $13.20 energy recovery, $27.45 CC surcharge). None of these additional costs were shown or explained to me at check in for pick up of the car and I was not given the chance to dispute the charges at the Phoenix site at drop off time due being hurried onto the shuttle, not given the opportunity to go into the Phoenix facility to go over charges/invoice to dispute any charges and receiving the invoice via email after arriving at my gate at the airport. All these practices by Nu Car are very deceptive. These addtional charges made the total cost of the car rental close to double the cost of the $504.32 that I was charged through Expedia and was to include all charges, taxes and fees.

Rip off Toll fee's

I would highly advise everyone to not us Action Car rental / NU They charged me $86.64 for $6.00 worth of tow charges since I did not pay their daily toll fee as the car was used only 2 days of the seven that I rented while I was on my Cruise. Horrible Company.

Do not rent from this company. Paid in advance and when I returned the vehicle there was no balance due. Then I got a random $250 charge on my Amex. Very deceptive business

Terrible service

Terrible service. They should know when customers are arriving and staff accordingly. 10 people in line, one agent. 1 hour queue just to get to the counter. Unless you have all day, avoid NU like the plague.

Double-charged by NU Car Rentals out of the PHX Airport

I recently rented from NU Car Rental in Phoenix after booking a prepaid “mystery car” through Priceline. At the counter, I was told the vehicle assigned (a van) would be a “gas guzzler,” and I was offered a smaller SUV for $29/day.What was not clearly explained was that this $29/day was in addition to the prepaid rate I had already paid through Priceline. I believed it was a substitute rate, not an added daily charge.Only after returning from vacation did I realize I had effectively doubled my daily rental cost. While the paperwork did show the total, the way the pricing was presented at the counter was unclear and sales-driven rather than transparent.I am not disputing that I signed the agreement. My concern is with how the pricing was explained. International travellers in particular should be very cautious about agreeing to any changes at the counter and confirm whether new rates are replacements or additional charges.I contacted NU Car Rentals promptly and was told they reviewed my situation with a corporate manager and a local manager, which determined I knowingly paid double the price for a smaller less-expensive vehicle. When I called Priceline, they said there was nothing they could do either. Clearly both organizations care little about quality customer service and more about coercively bilking their customers. With this expensive experience, I will definitely default to making zero changes at the counter in the future. And will never use NU Car Rentals again and will definitely be steering everyone I come into contact away from them.

Don’t do it

Don’t do it! Listen to the reviews - this place is definitely the worst when in comes to customer service. One guy was doing it all, while the other two “executives” were busy conversating, while there was a line. One of the executives heard me complaining so now I’m paying for it. All of sudden the one guy doing it all got called outside to help w something else. Turns out the “car” I rented is unavailable/damaged. Need to pay for an upgrade. This place is whack.

I booked the rental on Expedia

I booked the rental on Expedia. The car was $63.38 per day plus taxes and fees for a total of $95.90. I added the damage waiver protection for $16.00. Expedia took that money. Shuttle driver drove like a maniac from the airport to the rental car facility. I walked into the facility and it looked like a damn night club. Loud music playing in the background. I start the rental agreement process. The salesman starts to go over the rental by largely expanding the screen so that I would initial 7 lines such as loss damage waiver (LDW), Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), and Roadside Service Plan (RSP). The salesman only mentioned the LDW but not the cost. I initial each line thinking this is the stuff that Expedia charged for the damage waiver, taxes and fees. Then the salesman hits me for a $374.66 deposit. I finished signing the contract, he printed it, folded it in half, and placed in in their company booklet. All he kept telling me was "your getting a brand new Chevy Equinox fresh off the truck." He says go out the door to the right and the car will be out back. When I came out the door I was trying to get my bearings as to where I was going, a staff member rudely yells, "out the door to the right." THE CAR WAS ABSOLUTELY FILTHY!!!I started reviewing the receipt and the deposit returned. They returned $300.00 of the $374.66. So they charged me an additional $170.56, minus the $95.90 from Expedia booking. THEY DID NOT SUBTRACT THE $16 FOR THE DAMAGE WAIVER I PAID THROUGH EXPEDIA. Today I call 702.462.2664 and speak to a Lisa. The conversation starts off that I was charged for taxes, fees, and a damage waiver twice. Her response was that I signed the document and that she was not in the office so she doesn't know what the conversation was. I explained to her that he never went over the fees and that he expanded the screen so I could initial those 7 lines. She again said that she wasn't physically there so she doesn't know the conversation and because I signed the paperwork, she assumes I was advised of all the fees and that I had the right to decline things. I explained to her again that I believed that's what I was doing. I asked for a supervisor and she told me she was the highest ranking supervisor there and then like the rest of the employees, got rude. Bottom line is I paid a damage waiver twice, fees twice, and taxes twice. None of that stuff was subtracted from Expedia's charges. I DO NOT RECOMMENT THIS PLACE!!!!

I was charged for Loss Damage Waiver…

I was charged for Loss Damage Waiver and Roadside Assistance when I specifically said I didn't want it and challenged it on the contract. Then when I called to dispute the charges they "pretended" to look into it by putting me on hold and then saying "Sorry, you signed the contract so there's nothing I can do". Crooks with unethical business practices. Renters beware!

Dirty car and Hidden fees

There are stains in the vehicle that appear to be vomit. There are also hidden fees if you want to use your own insurance. They charge a fee for loss of use if the vehicle is in an accident. No personal insurance covers such a thing. It added $190 to my rental. Also they have a fee for a deposit. You can get no deposit for a fee of $70+ or have them freeze up a $1000 deposit. None of this was mentioned when I reserved the vehicle.

Loss Damage Waiver means PURCHASE

Loss Damage Waiver is actually to PURCHASE not Waive the insurance. We were charged an additional $237.93 for insurance that we did not want. All the other spots for initials on the contract are for declining the additional services. We expressed our desire to not have the insurance coverage through NU Car and the rental agent Michelle had us initial the waiver which to us was to DECLINE the coverage. That's what waive means...to decline. Very deceptive practice. We contacted NU Car when we returned from our vacation and the final amount posted to our credit card. The response was that the reservation was closed and there was nothing else to be done. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
