Not as clean as expected
Stayed at this hotel overnight in 19/1/26 for a birthday gift. On first appearance it looked really good . Spa was really good with nice pleasant and helpful staff. On first appearance of the room it looked nice and clean. However when showering I noticed the bath was filling up with water as bath waste was blocked with long hair dark hair which I had to clear. Secondly the bathroom waste bin had not been emptied a a dirty face cloth in it. Photos taken. The restaurant was nice and clean with good menu however had to wait to be seated even though there were only a handful of customers using the restaurant. Staff in restaurant were polite and helpful. On checking out staff told us to email customer services regards complaint which was done on checking out but have had no response to date, giving them the benefit of the doubt maybe missed my e-mail or overlooked it.

Not child friendly!!
pros.. bar staff are friendly. building is beautifulquick check in.cons...very remote.. speed bumps are car rattlersreception..explained below..not child friendly. on many levels. explained below.room. dusty and cold. THE RUN-through!!first night was great.. however. day + night 2.. 👎👎I am a bit disappointed with the whole slaley hall being a child/family friendly hotel... I know people are to come as couples or 'alone' But you can't state it's family friendly and open the pool for kids between 7/10am and again 4/7.30pm? That's not friendly? and they give you free kid places? This is to bring the kids.. but provide nothing for them within the grounds unless you have to travel off site.. Firstly.. this is for my child's birthday?. Which was for us to use the pool. (The card and brownie were lovely treats in our room upon arrival) The leaflet states different times to the festive itinerary. Which is up to the 27th December. Not beyond this date.. so one of them is wrong..Secondly, what happened if you arrived by taxi? And having to travel for these out of area places? we came in a classic car and caught every speed hump on the way in so we were not taking the risk again by subjecting the old gal to the catching of the exhaust anymore!!Then we go to reception. (day 28th December) State the 27th is on the itinerary, not our second day (Sunday 28th) the receptionist bloke basically said.. well we are child friendly. We give free child places?. we have children swimming times?. we are sorry you didn't check our website beforehand. as other guests usually do.. . but you know what? better still even... It's better to just leave them (children) at home next time!!!Got me for a better term.. fuming, speechless, not easy to do that when we are carers of these kids 😠BUT....... the absolute cherry on top was when we went for food the second night.. we had a feeling the restaurant would be full. but we went.. asked. fully booked.. no suprise. we said ok we will go and order food in the bar again.she says no they don't serve food in the bar?? sorry. but the night before they did..ANYWAY... THE ABSOLUTE FINISHER FOR US WAS.... we asked for food for them to turn around and say no... no food can be ordered as we have a backlog in the restaurant.. !! I have a child here 'absolutely' starving (her words).. having multiple meltdowns and stimming (ASD) I even said I would get her popcorn and wait... noooo orders were to be taken.. I requested the manager. who did take our order in the end but she was screaming at this point.. I would really reconsider bringing children. Unless you want to pay over the odds for their food. There is no kids menu.. There is no activities for the kids, like playgrounds etc.The room.. the window in the main bedroom is bust. and the handle is rattling badly too. and the dust was apparent in areas!! the attention to detail was lacking... For singles or couples possibly yes.. for families it's a no!!I could not wait to check out.. we were leaving the place by 8am!!

Lovely setting, poor service at restaurant
We booked an overnight stay with a spa treatment, evening meal and breakfast. The spa was a lovely relaxing area with 2 jacuzzis, pool, slide for the kids, steam and sauna rooms with its own bar/seating area. The massage treatments were fantastic that both me and my partner had. Phoebe gave me the most relaxing facial and scalp massage and the best foot/leg massage I have ever had. The meal on the evening wasn’t the best if I’m honest, we waited 35mins to receive our starter where I had to go and ask for cutlery then another 35 mins before we had our starter plates taken away after finishing or I had to take them up as we would probably still be waiting there now. The hotel staff and the hotel itself is fantastic I just wouldn’t recommend the restaurant

Just arrives at Slaley Hall .Beautiful Hotel but room was not ready when we checked in .When we eventually got our room , we have been given one with 2 sort if double beds instead of the King bed and extra room with Sofa bed .Not a problem for most but i have Scoliosis of the Spine and quite often have to get up during the night and sit elsewhere other than the bed due to the pain hense why i asked for the extra space - no other rooms available apparantly .Well thanks for nothing …..this was supposed to be a relaxing break away .You’ve turned it into a potential nightmare

We spent 3 days at Slaley hall hoping…
We spent 3 days at Slaley hall hoping for a relaxing and stress free time. Unfortunately I was more stressed when I left. I took my elderly mum and me away to relax and unwind and be pampered. My mum uses a walker and there were no lifts directly down to the spa, we had to be escorted by a member of staff through the offices and back of house in our robes. Which was very embarrassing, one day one of the lifts was not working and my poor mum had to walk quite a way to the next lift. No room service at all , so we had to go down for breakfast. One night I went down to the restaurant to order food to our room which was put in a box. But then the Barman said he would take the rest up to our room . I’m baffled as all the phones have room service on the dials but we were told that room service is not available. The spa was small and the whole 3 days we couldn’t get a seat to rest on, everything was on different levels and stairs which my mum didn’t feel safe to use. Only the steam room. Staff were friendly especially the spa staff when she had her treatments, breakfast was exceptionally good and our evening meals too. Spa is in need of upgrading, our room also as it had a dent in the bathroom door. Some of the leather furniture was also ripped and look shabby. The last night was noisy with customers slamming doors too. Beautiful location and scenery but I’m afraid I will not be returning to this hotel.

Unrelaxing, bad service
Usually stay in the lodge and decide to book 2 nights in the hotel. Waited until adults only for the spa facilities only to have the experience ruined by a group by loud and disruptive behaviour. The staff on duty did nothing even when the group were splashing other guests. Dinner was bought out separately so my sister's meal arrived after mine and we were told that we couldn't have a white wine spritzer, it had to be served separately with soda water in a tumbler and then a glass of white wine which we had to then mix ourselves. Despite having had the same drink the night before. Spoke to the staff on check out and was told someone would contact us. I have tried to call and hears nothing back from anyone. A shame as all past stays have been enjoyable. Perhaps all new staff. It was like staying in a completely different hotel to previous visits.

Disappointed
Having been to Slaley Hall 10 years ago on a golf trip I was looking forward to coming back. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my previous visit. The golf courses weren’t in very good condition considering the claim of having two championship courses. There was virtually no sand in any of the bunkers and the tees on the Priestman course tees were almost bare in places. The service in the claret jug in the hotel was terrible. Our evening meal took for ever to be served and the portions were tiny. Very disappointing. Before we left some of our party ordered food from the bar. One of the meals never even arrived and had to be refunded. Not sure I would rush back. Thankfully our group of people made up for the hotel and golf courses shortcomings.

Visitors from the south
We are staying at a lodge which is great. It changed when we wanted something from the hotel. For 2 weeks no coffee machines working in either bars and the lifts to the 19th bar out if action. The Preistman course was great but a bit tough, no complaints. The staff cannot be more helpful and the food we had was good.

Arrived on Wednesday 2nd April with 7…
Arrived on Wednesday 2nd April with 7 golfing buddies on a pre paid 3 day golfing experience, our rooms were not ready at mid day so bags went to storage while we golfed. My friend was looking to rent a buggy for the advertised cost of £35 and told no that’s wrong it’s £50 which is way to much for any course and not what’s advertised, the golf pro was not interested and adamant regards the non advertised cost. The Augusta of the North course (The Hunting) was more like your local municipal making the lesser course our preferred choice.Really disappointing. We did enjoy the food and the service from both the breakfast and the Claret jug staff although the choice of beverage was limited due to fonts being turned off with a shortage of stock. Would we go again? Probably as the overall deal price was good but this should not equate to a reason for overcharging in other areas. IE: £15 per hour to store your baggage after check out time when we were still on the golf course.

A great mid-week break
A great game on the Priestman Golf course, great food in the restaurant served by Jan and Jamie who were so pleasant and helpful.Looking forward to staying again next year.

Very disappointing experience
I am writing to express my disappointment with my experience at Slaley Hall on March 1st, 2025. My fiancée and I chose your venue for a relaxing, alcohol-free break after a busy week of work. Unfortunately, our visit did not meet expectations.Upon arrival at the spa, we found that all the seating areas were occupied, leaving us with no choice but to leave our belongings on the floor. Additionally, both the pool and the jacuzzi were uncomfortably cold, to the point where my fiancée was unable to enter the water. Given that we had paid nearly £270 for our visit, we felt it was unreasonable to sit in a room without any of the benefits we had anticipated, especially as we were not consuming alcohol.I approached the receptionist to request a refund, as we had only been at the hotel for an hour. She mentioned that she would contact the manager. While waiting, I spoke with a tall, dark-skinned gentleman in a grey suit, who explained that a power cut two days prior was the cause of the cold water. When the manager arrived, I explained the situation in detail. She investigated the spa and later informed me that the water temperature was 29.5 degrees. However, this statement did not seem accurate, and when I requested evidence, she was unable to provide any. Despite this, my request for a refund was declined.I find this decision to be unfair, especially considering the 100-mile round trip we made and the fact that we ultimately had to return home without enjoying the facilities. I wouldn’t not recommend this hotel to anyone.

What a disappointing experience!
I booked a 1-night spa break for my husband. Upon arrival, the check-in queue was long and slow. Our room was surface clean but had mold around the windows. At the spa, after changing and completing paperwork, we waited 15 minutes past our appointment time only to be told our therapist had gone home and our treatments were cancelled. We were offered a refund but no alternative. Back in our room, we tried to relax, but the neighbouring room was hosting a loud party. We had a decent meal at the restaurant but were woken up twice by our noisy neighbours, once when they returned at 1am and again when they woke us up at 7am being sick. We couldn't check out fast enough. I've been a fan of Slaley Hall for years, but I won't be returning

What a disastrous experience
What a disastrous experience, avoidat all costs! To be advertised as a 'relaxing' spa break is an absolute joke, there was nothing relaxing about it.On arrival we wanted a nice chill, cuppa, bite to eat prior to our spa treatments - we promptly ordered food, bar staff were pleasant but very very slow. An hour passed & I chased up our food order, which arrived that late we had to rush it down to attend our booked treatments. What a great start to our stay! The chips were stone cold. When I say stone cold, they were not even luke warm & certainly not edible. A refund took 35 minutes to process, this had to be done by the ‘top’ Manager - really, for the sake of £4.50!The hotel had supposedly suffered 2 power cuts prior to our arrival & was absolutely freezing cold. We were assured this would be corrected soon. We had a table booked in the restaurant at 19:30pm, it was still freezing at this time & none of us could get warm. We returned to our rooms which were absolutely freezing cold too & even altering the temperature did not help! We were sat in our rooms with jumpers/coats/duvets around us to keep warm!POOL AREA - What Spa experience allows children in the pool, how is this relaxing for the rest of the guests? The pool area was rammed with lots of young children screeching/screaming & dive-bombing in the pool - not one member of staff noticed or stopped this. Our worst nightmare, we had come away for a quiet/relaxing stay. There wasn't a seat/table or lounger anywhere to be found. We managed to get into the jacuzzi, but this was also not working & had no bubbles! The water in the pool/jacuzzi was freezing; we didn't stay in there for long!Children had access to the pool area practically the whole of our stay. We would not have booked Slaley if we knew kids would be present - fact! The massages/treatments in the Elemis Spa were fabulous, however cut short by 10 mins; again this shouldn’t happen! The following day we decided not to return to the pool area, as children would again be present. Therefore, we decided to go to the bar/lounge area for a chill, chat, relax & a cuppa before departing. There was one person serving on the bar; he had to keep leaving his post to deliver meals to guests & the amount of people complaining about the service was ridiculous. We waited 35 minutes to order coffees/drinks & ended up leaving without being served. Where were the so called management team assessing customer service/demand?We checked out. Reception staff were very miserable on arrival & departure. On arrival, outside our rooms were 2 empty dirty glasses & outside another a plate with leftover food. When we exited our rooms these were still there - disgusting! The drive upto the hotel was absolutely horrific with around 150-200 really bad potholes in the road; this desperately needs resurfacing, as it could potentially damage someone's car, there was no way of avoiding them.NOT the relaxing break we had all hoped for & we will definitely not be returning.A 'Spa' break should be a time to relax, wind down & enjoy the experience, it was the furthest from this! The biggest insult was being given a £50 refund for each room (equating to £25 per person). We will NEVER return. Avoid avoid avoid, we would definitely NOT recommend.Horrible experience!

Seriously think before you book
A friend and myself stopped overnight on the 23/11/24. Firstly we had issues with checking in. The lady on reception kept asking for a voucher No which my friend didn't have she had the confirmation from Slaly Hall confirming the booking, apparently this wasn't enough. My friends partner had spent a lot of money buying this gift for us to use. So eventually they said we better go for our spa treatment, as we were late after arriving early. She would only give the room No but not the key, even though our details were on they systems. I got my treatment but my friend didn't, because of questionnaire we had fill out on arrival. So checking in a pain then disappointed that my friend het her treatment and was told to back on the Sunday morning before we checked out. To add insult to injury, the treatment I had was very quick to say the least, the girl was so nice though. We then went into spa area, which is very small, the pool water is cold the hot tub which also is very small, and you had to queue to get into was definitely not hot. Now I have to gorgeous grandchildren of my own. But really didn't expect to have quite a few small children in the spa area. Who were playing obviously and having swimming lessons, by parents/grandparents. I have no issues at all with children, but just don't think the spa area at Slaley Hall, is appropriate. I asked at the spa reception desk if there was any more seats for the spa, reply was definitely not. I explained that we had no where to seat and had put towels and dressinggrowns on a wall. I was told to use the hooks around the wall !. Or use relaxation room across corridor from spa!. No, as I explained my friends partner had sent a lot of money on this trip. The bedroom were lovely and clean the cleaning staff were lovely. The food good, better breakfast than tea. And the staff in restaurant were lovely. But over all very poor experiences at Slaley Hall, not a place I would recommend, unfortunately. Over all the spa experience was very far from relaxing, at all.

Very poor for the money
Very poor for the money, would rather go elsewhere! Given our forms on check in and told to wait in relaxation room, left in the room and forgotten about, had to go find a staff member, she apologised and said she wasn't aware we were in there. 30 minutes of our day wasted. Jacuzzi off for our whole visit, asked several times if it would be on before we left, one word answers I'm regards to this by very unhelpful staff. Food was very poor and by the time we went for our reservation at 13.45 there was very little left, dirty tables all around the restaurant after we walked the halls trying to find where we needed to be. The only thing making it worth while was the treatment by the lovely staff. Definitely wouldn't return

Overall a mixed experience
Overall a mixed experience. Lovely pool area and spa - amazing massage treatment by Kerry. My room was nice and large with a good view of the golf course and it was clean. The thing that knocks the score down significantly is the quality of the food, it’s my 3rd time here and the restaurant and food quality will make me think twice about returning when compared to other similarly priced spa hotels in the region.

Disappointing stay
Just returned from staying Friday and Saturday night. Quick check in and impressive reception area.Room however was tired with broken sink plug, missing handle on a drawer and chipped furniture. No socket where the kettle was stored so had to move the tray onto the floor to make a drink. Mirror above the dressing table too high to be of use when sat. The room was only made up for two of us when there were three of us. Had to get extra pillows out and share towels. The room wasn’t serviced after the first night! Visited the Spa which was also tired and only one private changing room, people were having to change in the toilets.Had an evening meal in the Claret Jug, service was very slow as so busy, but food ok.Breakfast was disappointing. Wasn’t kept stocked up even though we arrived well before breakfast closed. Coffee machine continually breaking down. Ordered vegetarian sausages when someone finally appeared behind the hot food counter but they took so long to come, I’d eaten the rest of my meal when they arrived. A proper ordering system when you sit down would improve this. Tables not cleared until you left. The restaurant manager was helpful but running around trying to cover every job.We stayed as we had a family wedding nearby, so glad the wedding was not at this venue. Checked out and wasn’t even asked how our stay was. Not worth the price charged.
